Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis at a glance

The Tyrolean holiday region of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis consists of the three historic mountain villages of Serfaus, Fiss, and Ladis, which are located above the upper Tyrolean Inn Valley at an altitude of 1,192 m to 1,436 m. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is particularly popular with families with children, as there are countless fantastic playgrounds, diverse adventure mountains, and exciting adventure worlds that are sure to make every child’s heart beat faster.

Bergdorf Serfaus Tirol

In winter, the region transforms into a romantically glittering winter landscape with 214 kilometers of slopes, spectacular downhill runs, and breathtaking mountain panoramas. Thanks to the southern location of the mountain villages, you can look forward to over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year. The many cable cars and lifts ensure comfortable, uncomplicated transport and take you quickly from one slope to the next.

Bergdorf Serfaus Tirol Österreich

Serfaus: The mountain village of Serfaus is the largest (and most touristy) village with around 1,141 inhabitants and over 7,000 guest beds. In addition to a driverless subway (yes, you heard right), you will find numerous hotels, guesthouses, shops, and restaurants in Serfaus. The entire village is also traffic-calmed, making strolling through it very pleasant.

Fiss: In our opinion, Fiss is the perfect starting point for all kinds of adventures in the surrounding mountains. This tranquil village with approximately 1,000 inhabitants boasts a 600-year-old town center, winding alleys, and plenty of charm. We felt right at home in Fiss!

Ladis: Ladis is the smallest of the trio, with just under 540 inhabitants. We particularly liked the centuries-old farmhouses, the beautiful landscape, the well-preserved town center, and the idyllic lake below Laudeck Castle.

Winter Hikes in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

Let’s start right away with our favorite activity in the mountains: hiking. 100 km of groomed winter hiking trails awaited us in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis this winter, so the choice wasn’t easy. In the following section, we’d like to introduce you to two shorter winter hikes. If you need even more inspiration, take a look here: ☞ Winter hiking trails in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.

1. Winter hiking on the Six Senses Trail

On the first day, we enjoyed a relaxing winter hike on the Six Senses Trail in perfect weather. This approximately 6.5 km long hiking trail starts below the Komperdellbahn mountain station (1,980 m) at the Murmliwasser and leads along a wide, snow-covered gravel road to the Seealm Hög.

Along the way, we passed numerous stations focusing primarily on the themes of sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, and illusions. This trail is therefore often referred to as a sensory hiking trail. We enjoyed the warm rays of sunshine on our skin, the wonderful views, and the fantastic mountain landscapes around us.

After just under 3 km, we reached the Seealm Hög, where we took a short break at an altitude of 1,820 meters. The path from the Seealm Hög now partially leads back through the forest to Madatschen and then down a paved road to Serfaus.

Since we had another appointment, we didn’t have time for the entire hike. Therefore, we boarded the Alpkopfbahn cable car at Högsee and returned to Serfaus. So you can take a slightly longer winter hike (approx. 6.5 km) or take a shortcut halfway (approx. 3 km). You should plan on about 4 hours for the entire tour. ☞ Click here for tour planning.

2. Winter hiking on the Panorama-Genussweg (Panoramic Pleasure Trail)

Highly recommended is the 5.24 km long Panorama-Genussweg (Panoramic Pleasure Trail), which leads in a very relaxed manner from the Komperdellbahn mountain station to the Möseralm. Breathtaking views, some rustic huts, sun loungers, and a wooden pavilion awaited us on the wide and well-maintained hiking trail.

At first, the trail was flat, crossing the Serfauser Jochwiesen meadows to the Königsleithewald forest and past the Sunliner mountain station. This is exactly where we whizzed through the Tyrolean mountains in four stages last summer on the cool “Serfauser Sauser” zipline. That was quite an adventure!

Panoramaweg Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Panoramaweg Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Sunliner Bergbahn Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

The winter hiking trail continued through the rustic Rastwald forest before, after a short climb, we reached the Möseralm. This relatively short hike takes only about 1.5 hours and is perfect for anyone looking for a relaxed hike with great panoramic views.

The trail is very well maintained, crossing ski and snowboard slopes only in a few places. Incidentally, the blue piste no. 64 starts right next to the Möseralm and leads down to the mountain village of Fiss. We once again took a leisurely ride on the Möseralmbahn. ☞ Click here to plan your tour.

Adventurous toboggan runs

Tobogganing is only for small children? Wrong! We also had incredible fun whizzing down the cool slopes. Highly recommended is the Witches’ Toboggan Run, which starts right next to the Steinegg Restaurant at the Schönjochbahn mid-station. The toboggan run leads along a wide path to the valley station of the Schönjochbahn in Fiss and, above all, impresses with fantastic views. The Tyrolean mountains around Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis are a real feast for the eyes! The toboggan run measures a full 4 kilometers and features some cool hairpin bends and fast straights.

Witches’ Toboggan Run

  • Toboggan run start: Schönjochbahn middle station
  • End: Schönjochbahn valley station in Fiss
  • Toboggan rental: Intersport Pregenzer (10 € per day)
  • Duration: approx. 20 to 30 minutes (4 km length)
  • Tip: Stop off beforehand at the Steinegg Inn/Tiroler Stube

Toboggan run Hexenweg

We also highly recommend the toboggan run from the Komperdellbahn mountain station down to Serfaus. We tested this 4 km long run as part of Adventure Night (every Wednesday during the winter season) and had a blast. We raced down to Serfaus at breakneck speed on the illuminated run. Many parents and their children also clearly enjoyed the night tobogganing.

Komperdell toboggan run

  • Toboggan run start: Komperdellbahn mountain station
  • End: Komperdellbahn valley station in Serfaus
  • Toboggan rental in Serfaus: Patscheider Sport (8 € per day)
  • Duration: approx. 20 to 30 minutes (4 km long)
  • Tip: Stop off at the Sportalm beforehand

Toboggan run Hexenweg Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

We really liked both toboggan runs and they guarantee lots of fun and action. Every Thursday during the winter season, from 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m., Kids Night in Fiss takes place, where young and old can race each other on the illuminated witch’s toboggan run. In Berta’s Children’s Land, you can also test out some cool fun sports equipment on the slopes. ☞ You can find more information here.

Skiing and Snowboarding in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

The popular holiday region of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis surprised us not only with idyllic winter hiking trails and action-packed toboggan runs, but also with 214 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes, a ski area the size of 657 football fields, 30 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, and a 22-kilometer cross-country ski route.

In terms of difficulty, there’s something for everyone in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. There are 47 kilometers of blue slopes (easy), 112 kilometers of red slopes (intermediate), and 27 kilometers of black slopes (difficult). Take a look at the ☞ piste map right away.

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area

On peak days, around 22,000 winter sports enthusiasts are on the mountain. Crazy, right? But honestly, that doesn’t surprise us at all, because Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is one of the most popular ski areas in Europe (☞ overview of all areas here). With the numerous lifts, cable cars, conveyor belts, and even a subway in Serfaus, you can quickly get to one of the slopes, to the nearest restaurant for lunch, or up the mountain for a stunning panoramic view. Since most of the runs are spread between 1,800 m and almost 3,000 m, the ski area is generally very snow-sure. The winter season in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis usually starts in early December and ends in mid-April.

Skiing at the Komperdell Middle Station

Slopes for beginners

If you’re still a beginner, we recommend a ski instructor who can teach you the most important techniques. I (Bolle) had a ski instructor from the Serfaus Ski School for a day, which helped me significantly. Without the lessons, I’d probably still be standing in front of the children’s slope today. My ski instructor patiently and clearly showed and taught me the most important techniques. In the end, I was even able to ski the first blue slopes.

The area around the Komperdellbahn mountain station is particularly recommended for beginners, as it has wide practice slopes, practice lifts, and magic carpets. I had a lot of fun on the two blue slopes No. 97 and No. 99, which lead down to the Gampen family lift. If you book ski lessons, I highly recommend the ski instructor Mexx. I felt very comfortable and had a fantastic time on the slopes with Mexx.

Slopes for advanced and professional skiers

While I was learning to ski on the small “children’s slopes,” Marco Check out some red runs on your snowboard. The wide slopes around the Masnerkopf (e.g., nos. 158, 162, and 163) are particularly popular, as they offer magnificent views of the other mountain peaks and valleys. At 2,828 meters, it’s also the highest point in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area.

Ski piste Fisser Nordseite

Marco also liked the slopes that lead down from Plansegg to an altitude of 2,376 m (nos. 105, 106, 107, 108 & 109), as well as piste no. 123 from Lazid and piste no. 96 from Alpkopf with its transition to the blue piste no. 90. It’s best to pick up a ☞ up-to-date piste map from one of the tourist information offices so you don’t lose track. The map clearly shows all the slopes, cable cars, lifts, huts, and restaurants.

Ski area in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

The mostly uncrowded slopes on the north side of Fiss (e.g., No. 19, No. 21, and No. 26) are also popular. Be sure to plan a break at the Schöngampalm or Zirbenhütte. One of the most popular and well-known slopes in the ski area is the Frommesabfahrt (No. 7), which starts on the north side of Fiss from the Schöngampbahn mountain station and leads to the valley station in Ladis. Breathtaking mountain panoramas and numerous great photo spots await you along the way. You can enjoy hearty, home-cooked food halfway along the slope at the Frommes Alp.

Fun Sports & Adrenaline

The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area boasts 6 fun areas and 12 freeride routes. Several mogul slopes, 1 speed course, 1 carving course, and 2 permanent race tracks are also part of the holiday region’s repertoire. Have you ever ridden a snow scooter or tried the Snake Gliss?

During the Snake Gliss, several toboggans are connected together and then whizz down the slope together. This is certainly the perfect fun sport for groups and families. At the ☞ Take Off Snow & Fun Center, you can try out the various fun sports equipment.

Viewing Platform Z1: The Z1 viewing platform, located at an altitude of 2,600 m, is popular. From there, you can gaze at Germany’s highest mountains. While you can walk there from the BergDiamant panoramic restaurant in summer, you can reach the platform in winter with the Almbahn cable car.

Viewing platform at the Schönjoch summit cross: A brand new addition is the viewing platform near the summit cross on the Schönjoch. If you’re on the Frommesabfahrt (Frommes slope), plan a stop and enjoy the fantastic view of the surrounding mountains and peaks.

Event Highlights in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

The popular Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis holiday region invites you to various events in both summer and winter. While we were able to experience the ☞ “Long Night” in Serfaus in summer, we visited the spectacular ☞ “Adventure Night” in winter. The scenery was transformed into a magical and colorful dream world. Numerous artists and acrobats offered an impressive show with amazing stunts and costumes.

In general, we think it’s really cool that events take place regularly and repeatedly in both summer and winter. Whether it’s night skiing, figure skating performances, laser shows, sunset dinners, or night tobogganing – there’s plenty to keep young and old entertained here. Check out the ☞ events calendar right away. Next time, we’d like to try the “Masner Express” and the “Sunrise Hexensee” event.

Aventure Night Serfaus

Our accommodation: Jenny’s Schlössl

During this trip, we stayed at the ☞ 4-star Hotel Jenny’s Schlössl*. This hotel is located in the center of Serfaus and is just a stone’s throw from the Komperdell cable car valley station. This meant we were always just a few minutes from the gondolas and could head up into the mountains. You can store your equipment at the hotel during the winter.

Our room was comfortable and simply furnished, with a TV, seating area, bathroom with shower, safe, bathrobes, and Wi-Fi. From the balcony, we had a direct view of the slopes. The only thing we missed was a small tea station in the room, because especially in the winter months, we like to have a cup of tea in the evening before bed.

Jenny's Schlössl Hotel Aussicht Panoramapool Jenny's Schlössl Serfaus Wellness area

Particularly worth mentioning is the extensive wellness area, which extends over 6 floors. The highlights here are certainly the heated panoramic pool, the panoramic sauna, the heated saltwater pool, and the various relaxation areas with their pleasant lighting. If you’re still not exhausted after your day in the mountains, you can work out a bit in the small fitness room.

We also really enjoyed the food. Every day, we were able to put together our 5-course menu from a variety of starters, main courses, and desserts. In the small lounge with bar, there was a small cake buffet with yogurt and fruit in the afternoon. In the morning, we fortified ourselves with an extensive breakfast buffet.☞ Book a room here*.

From A to B by bus

Fortunately, you don’t really need a car here. If you still want to travel from one village to another, you can either take the cable cars or the public post bus (fees apply). Buses run at regular intervals and connect, among others, the three villages of Serfaus, Fiss, and Ladis (☞ for the bus timetable for number 220). There is also a connection to Landeck-Zams, where the nearest train station is located. Some accommodations even offer their own ski bus shuttle service, taking guests from their accommodation to the cable car. It’s best to ask at your accommodation.

By subway through Serfaus

This may sound strange, but the small mountain village of Serfaus has had the smallest, highest, and air-floating subway in the world since 1986. ThisSince then, the 1.28-kilometer-long subway has transported locals and vacationers across the village. The subway connects the valley station of the cable cars in the west with the parking lot in the east and is free to use. There are four stations in Serfaus: the parking lot, the church, the center, and the cable car.

Our conclusion about our winter vacation in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

While the popular holiday region surprised us in the summer, we were already very excited about the winter. And what can we tell you?
