You will be pleasantly surprised when you get to Ski Resort Špindlerův Mlýn. Špindlerův Mlýn belongs to the group of sixteen prestigious mid-altitude winter resorts in Europe, being an ideal place for relaxation not only in winter but also in summer.

Špindlerův Mlýn includes a fairly large area in the north-east of the Czech Republic on the border with Poland and consists of several resort villages surrounded by a national park. It is located in the upper reaches of the Labe (Elbe) at the confluence of the river with the St. Peter stream. The resort is much cheaper than its counterparts in Austria and other Western countries, so not only Czechs and Poles, but also French, Germans, and Austrians are regulars here.

In total there are 5 resort areas in the village:

Svatý Petr. The largest center of sports activities with beautiful artificial snow slopes, suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. Also in this area is the popular children’s SKI & FUN Park, located in the immediate vicinity of the lower station of the funicular with the Svatý Petr – Pláň slope. A 27 m long moving carpet and numerous entertainment programs for the park’s young customers, surrounded by professional instructors, will provide children with the opportunity to master the basics of skiing, while parents can ski in peace and, at the same time, keep an eye on their children with each lift ride.

Medvědín. This is the most popular area, with large free parking, ski schools nearby and a very nice water park. There are mainly red and black slopes in this area, but a little to the side there is a blue slope that will take us to the Horní Mísečky area, also connected to Medvedín in the opposite direction by tow lifts.
Horní Mísečky. The Horní Mísečky area is an ideal place for beginner skiers and for family holidays with children. There are 4 tow lifts, perfectly prepared ski slopes and a snow park with its own lift designed for snowboarders and Freestyle skiers. There are also good slopes for cross-country skiing and climbing to the ridges of the mountains.
Hromovka. On Hromovka there is the longest ski slope in the Czech Republic for skiing in the dark. With its length of 1500 m and artificial snow, this illuminated slope offers excellent evening skiing.
LABSKÁ. The new area was built on the route of the former ski lift. The route of the new funicular, compared to the original, is 300 m longer and leads directly to the cross-country ski trail leading to Horní Misechko. The ski slope has also been extended and widened, and artificial snowmaking equipment has been installed. The area is recommended primarily for families for a relaxing ski holiday on sunny slopes. An additional advantage is the possibility of purchasing cheaper, so-called, regional passes, because this area is located at some distance from the village.

In total, 5 funiculars operate in all these zones: one – a double chairlift (St. Peter), three – four-seater chairlifts (St. Peter, Gromovka and Medvedyn) and 11 tow lifts. The total capacity is up to 18,000 people per hour, who can ride, as already noted earlier, on 25 km of ski slopes.

A single ski pass is valid for the entire Spindlerův Mlýn. The standard price for a full day of skiing is 750 CZK, but you can reduce the price to 375 CZK at different times with the help of discounts and promotions.

The areas of Sváta Petr, Medvedín and LABSK are connected by a regular Ski Bus line.

In addition, in Mlyn, you can also go sledding on an almost 4-kilometer track with a height difference of 350 m, tickle your nerves at the crazy speeds of snow tubing and skate on an open ice rink.

What is interesting to see in Špindlerův Mlýn?

The sights of Špindlerův Mlýn are mainly natural: The source of one of the largest rivers in Europe – the Elbe, the ski slopes of Medvedín (Vítkoviće district), to the top of which you can climb by lift directly from the town, and Sv. Petr – the most popular slope, located in the center of Špindlerův Mlýn, these ski centers are connected by regular bus routes surrounding the ski resort mountains: Sv. Petr, Maiden’s Stone – the highest peak of Špindlerův Mlýn, rising to a height of 1414 m, located on the watershed ridge of the Krkonoše, there are also ski slopes.

The Elbe – Labe river flows through Špindlerův Mlýn. It has several sources, some of which are equipped for viewing by tourists. The river begins at an altitude of about 1400 m. near the source of the Elbe, a waterfall falls into a 50-meter abyss.

Špindlerův Mlýn: excursions and activities

The Hradec Králové Region, where Špindlerův Mlýn is located, is rich in excursion events. At the foot of the Krkonoše Mountains is one of the most famous zoos in the Czech Republic, which combines a regular zoo with a safari park, as there are many African animals. Come to the zoo in the summer, and you will take part in the numerous events held here.

Of course, you can visit the center of the region – Hradec Králové, one of the most beautiful cities in Bohemia.

At the foot of the Sněžka mountain there is a very interesting object – Relax Park, which combines both adrenaline and adventure. Here you can ride a sled, like an avid luger or bobsledder.

In Špindlerův Mlýn itself there is – an aquapark, which delights visitors all year round.

History and attractions of Špindlerův Mlýn

If you are going on a trip to the highest mountains of the Czech Republic, Špindlerův Mlýn will serve as one of the best bases at any time of the year. It lies at the very end of the road that leads from Vrchlabí through the valley upstream of the Elbe River to the foot of the Krkonoše Mountains.

The first mention of the area where the resort is now located dates back to 1516. At that time, gold and silver mining was carried out here. In 1704, the Špindler family settled in the area. On the banks of the Elbe River, they built a mill, after which the village was later named. Later, a forester’s house, huts and summer houses appeared near the mill. Due to the development of green tourism, the wealthy increasingly came to Špindlerův Mlýn to enjoy the local beauty and breathe fresh air. Since then, the village has been continuously developing and has become one of the most popular resorts in the Czech Republic.

Špindlerův Mlýn has probably long offered some of the best conditions for skiers – both for downhill and cross-country skiing. Today you will find 4 ski resorts here, which can be used without restrictions on one ski pass during the day. The ski slopes on Medvedín, Sv. Petr, Hromívka, Horní Misechko and LABSK total more than 25 kilometers and offer slopes for everyone – from beginners to experienced skiers.

Sv. Petr Špindlerův Mlýn Region

Although it has a long winter season, visitors to Špindlerův Mlýn will also enjoy it in the summer. Because several major hiking and cycling trails start here, and the city offers sports activities.

In the center

Be sure to visit the source of the Elbe River, the Snow Pit and the Bowden LABSK – take the scientific route through Horni Misechko or take the cable car to Medvedin, which will significantly facilitate your journey. From “Špindl” you can also climb Snezka along the 10 km long red route with a height difference of over 1000 meters. Or you can choose a longer route with less climbing on the blue route through the White Elbe Valley.

Upon arrival in the city, you will drive past the notable Elbe Reservoir Dam, where one of the adrenaline experiences awaits you – crossing the Elbe at a height of 29 meters on a huge rope swing. Or you can go down the dam on a rope, and then climb back up to a height of 35 meters on stone ledges. Naturally, with insurance and under the supervision of experienced instructors.

The Špindlerův Mlýn resort has a temperate continental climate with mild winters with a lot of snow and warm summers with a predominance of air from the Atlantic.

The snow cover lasts from November to April, up to 3 meters thick. January temperatures in the middle mountains on average do not fall below -10 on the peaks of the middle mountains, and at the foot of the valleys it is even warmer, about -3 degrees. Therefore, the conditions for recreation are simply ideal.
