The picturesque La Tagna ski resort, surrounded by a fabulous coniferous forest, is located just 2 kilometers from the legendary Courchevel and 5 km from Méribel, while being distinguished by not too high prices and a calm atmosphere. This idyllic town, located at an altitude of 1400 meters, has become a real paradise for young skiers. Which is not surprising, because thanks to the car ban, the entire resort has become a huge pedestrian zone through which children of all ages can move freely and safely. The special charm of the La Tagna station, which is part of the world’s largest ski region, the Three Valleys, is given by the majestic forests surrounding the town, as well as the original Alpine architecture with wooden houses.

This relatively young town was built before the 1992 Winter Olympics. La Tania was built with an emphasis on environmental friendliness: all the houses here are trimmed with natural wood, there are no too noisy entertainments in the town – that’s why families with children like to relax in this cozy, quiet place so much.

The station is connected to the Three Valleys by gondola, you can go down by red or blue slopes, which are located on the northern slope, so at any time they have good snow cover. In the small village there are several hotels and residences, a very wide selection of private chalets, skiing “from the door”, all the necessary infrastructure.

History and present

La Tania in France is the youngest city in the Alps. Its name translates as “bear’s den”, because bears lived here until the beginning of the 20th century.

Weather in La Tania

The weather in La Tania resort is stable and usually does not disappoint skiers from December to April. The northern slope in the La Tania ski area is located in the forest, the snow lies there all winter. The sunniest weather in La Tania is in March. At this time, you can even get burned while skiing, so it is better to use sun cream. When skiing in the 3 Valleys, you can not be afraid of avalanches, because more than 2/3 of the lifts and slopes are outside the avalanche danger areas and do not suffer from strong winds. Due to the height difference from 1300 to 3200 meters and the large area of the ski area, if on some slopes of the 3 Valleys it is cloudy with clearings, then on others the sun may shine.

Tracks, slopes, lifts

Optimal conditions are created for children not only in the town itself, but also on the ski slopes adjacent to it. In specially organized children’s skiing areas and on the children’s track “Troika”, kids can calmly, and most importantly, for free, take their first steps on skis. La Tania is one of the smallest villages in the 3 Valleys region – a famous skiing area at altitudes of 1300 – 3200 meters above sea level. The La Tania resort is located on the northern spur of the mountain range that separates the Meribel valley from Courchevel.

There are steep sections at the top, then the steepness is medium, the difficulty of the trail is reddish. Parallel to it is the easiest blue trail. The finish is right near the hotels.

The La Tania resort provides information about the condition of the trails thanks to two new webcams. One webcam is located near the ski school and provides a view of the foot of the Folyeres slope. Another webcam is installed on the terrace of the restaurant located on the Bouc Blanc slope. The slopes of the La Tagna resort are suitable for beginners and toddlers. La Tagna has 2 children’s tow lifts and one cabin that takes you (with one descent and transfer) to Lose (2196 m). If your children are too young to get up for skiing, they will enjoy spending time in the kindergarten. The new kindergarten “Chez Nounours” offers children both indoor and outdoor games.

From the center of La Tagna, a cable car takes you up the La Lose ridge (2274 m), from where you can easily ski down (or take the lifts) to Courchevel 1850 or Méribel. Shuttle buses run frequently to these places. In total, the resort’s ski area has: 10 gondola lifts, 16 chairlifts, 40 tow lifts, 32 km of blue runs, 99 km of red runs, and 19 km of dark runs. Children under 5 years old and adults over 75 years old use the lifts free of charge.

There are 3 ski schools in La Tagna, and you can rent equipment for both downhill skiing and snowboarding. There are cross-country ski trails (6 km one way to Meribel or Courchevel). The new ski area with artificial snow on the slopes of Bouc Blanc and Arolles has allowed to combine the ski areas of Courchevel-1850, Meribel-Mottaret and La Tagna. If you buy a single Skipass for all Three Valleys while on holiday in La Tagna, then any of the 200 lifts (82 tow lifts, 69 chair lifts, 37 cabins, 6 gondolas) and all 600 km of perfectly prepared, frequently groomed ski slopes are available to you. The 3 Valleys have the most red slopes – 107, slightly fewer blue slopes – 93, black slopes – 37 and 4 green slopes. The large number of slopes in the 3 Valleys impresses even experienced skiers. Each skier will find their own trails, travel routes and skiing modes. Lifts are open from 9:00 to 17:00. If you have one Skipass Three Valleys for 6 days or more, during the validity period of the pass, you will be given 1 day of skiing in the Gorsko-Killi or Paradiski area of your choice free of charge. When purchasing a home ski pass for 6 days or more (minimum 2 adults and 2 children under 18 years old), discounts are provided. You can purchase the newest ski pass – “morning” for the entire Three Valleys area, valid from the opening of the lifts until 12:30.

The height difference is 1100 m at the lowest point and 2732 m at the top. In La Tania itself, you can enjoy skiing on forest trails, which is suitable for skiers of intermediate level. Professionals are recommended to go for adrenaline in Creux, Saulire and Col de la Loze. For novice athletes, the blue slopes of neighboring Courchevel are ideal.

How to get there

You can get to La Tagne for a ski holiday on the slopes of the most famous ski resort in France, the Three Valleys, in a few airports: Lyon, Grenoble, Chambery, Geneva and Turin (Italy). Grenoble and Chambery are the closest, but only charters fly here from Ukraine. Various tour companies organize charters to Grenoble (about 100 km.) or to Lyon (about 185 km) in the season and usually, at the same time, they provide a transfer to the hotel. From Geneva International Airport to the 3 Valleys you can get in 3 – 4 hours by car or train. The nearest train station to La Tagna is Moutiers, which is located 26 km from Courchevel, with which La Tagna is now connected by a free ski bus. From Moutiers you can get to Paris by TGV in 4.5 hours. Therefore, a good option for arriving on vacation in La Tagna is via Paris. La Tania station is connected to the Three Valleys by gondola, and you can ski down on the red or blue slopes.
