A few words about winter holidays in Slovakia

Slovakia is surrounded on three sides by majestic mountains. In the south, the country is washed by the waters of the Danube River. Slovakia is an ideal country in which to organize and spend an unforgettable winter vacation! The republic’s ski resorts attract both winter sports enthusiasts and professional athletes from all over the world.

The country has a favorable, continental climate. The coldest month in Slovakia is January. Snow cover lasts for one hundred and thirty days on the mountain tops! Even residents of Alpine countries come to Slovakia to ski and snowboard! And it is not surprising! After all, the prices for recreation and winter entertainment here are much lower than in their homeland, and they get just as many emotions!

At the ski resorts of the Slovak Republic, Štrbské Pleso, Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica, Podbanské, Jasná and Donovaly, there are shops, ski equipment rental points and service companies for its maintenance, sports centers and ski schools, where tourists are taught the technique of skiing and snowboarding by qualified instructors who are professionals in their field. Guests of the resorts will be able to visit recreation areas and entertainment venues, restaurants and cafes.

Štrbské Pleso Ski Resort

The Štrbské Pleso Ski Resort is one of the best high-altitude winter resorts located in the High Tatras, at an altitude of one thousand three hundred and fifty-five meters above sea level. It offers excellent conditions for cross-country skiing, for beginners and children!

Štrbské Pleso has a significant elevation difference. The resort is located in an extremely picturesque area, on the shores of the lake of the same name. Winter sports competitions are held in Štrbské Pleso. In 1999, the Winter Universiade competitions were held here.

Štrbské Pleso is a place where not only avid skiers come, but also lovers of biathlon, biathlon, snowboarding and ski jumping.

About one and a half kilometers from the “heart” of the resort, there is a modern, decently equipped ski station. It includes two stadiums equipped with spectator stands and two ski jumps. One of them is characterized by a height of seventy meters, and the other is ninety meters. There is a “start” and “finish” for ski races of five, ten, fifteen, thirty and fifty kilometers.

The slopes of the Štrbské Pleso ski resort are located at an altitude of 1400 – 1840 meters above sea level:

  • 2 – “blue”,
  • 4 – “red”.

They are designed for both amateurs of winter sports and professional skiers.

  • 3 towbars;
  • 2 – chairlifts;
  • children’s.

If necessary, snow cannons are used. There is one illuminated slope.

The resort area is home to comfortable hotels, saunas and swimming pools, an ice rink and gyms, casinos and cafes, discos and restaurants, the menu of which presents incredibly delicious dishes of Slovak and European cuisine.

In the city itself there is a bank, a department store, a pharmacy and a post office. The distance from the resort of Štrbské Pleso to the airport is twenty-five kilometers.

Smokovec ski resort

The Smokovec ski resort is the oldest in the Slovak Republic. It is located in the High Tatras, at the foot of Slavkov Peak, and is characterized by slight elevation changes.

Smokovec is located fifteen kilometers from Poprad, and includes New and Old, Mountain and Valley Smokovec.

Today, Smokovec can boast of a well-established, developed infrastructure at the highest level. The skiing season in Smokovec begins in December and ends in April. Smokovec is located at an altitude of 890 – 1010 meters above sea level.

The ski resort has five slopes: “blue”, “red” and “black”. The skiing area is located at an altitude of 800 – 1480 meters. The resort attracts with its cute, picturesque villages, beautiful landscapes, good conditions for skiing for beginners and young tourists. The special charm of the ski resort is given by cozy boarding houses built in the mountains, villages, hotels, made in a timeless, classic – traditional Tatra style. There are seven lifts in the resort: one funicular and six tow lifts. Tourists can purchase a ski pass for one day, six days and even a season.

The main skiing center in the Smokovec resort is called Hrebienok. Using the cable car, a tourist can climb to a height of one thousand two hundred and sixty-three meters in just nine minutes. There are two trails here. One of them is intended for novice skiers. The other, a slalom “black” called Horna Lukа, can only be overcome by professional athletes.

Three tow lifts operate in this area. Some trails are maintained in excellent condition with the help of snow cannons.

In Smokovec, seven kilometers of trails of medium difficulty have been prepared for skiers who are not yet completely confident on skis. For tourists who are just starting to master the technique of skiing, the New Smokovec trail, located near the Park Hotel, is ideal. The gentle slope is characterized by a length of nine hundred and ten meters. There is a tow lift here, snow cannons work. The trail is illuminated with the onset of dusk. Tourists will be able to ski here until 9:00 p.m.

In Novy Smokovec, on Yakubova Luka (1,140 meters above sea level), there are easy slopes that even amateurs can do. The slope is quite gentle. It is served by a tow lift. There is a children’s ski school in the village, and a natural ice rink is open.

Experienced athletes have chosen the steep, wide slope in Hirský Smokovec, which is located directly above the Bellevue Hotel. The track is characterized by a height difference of sixty-one meters. It is served by a tow lift, reaching a length of two hundred and twenty-five meters.

The best track for skiing is considered to be located in Stary Smokovec. Its length is three kilometers. The height difference here is two hundred and fifty meters. In this area you can take part in night sledding with music, warm up with hot mulled wine and get a guaranteed prize!

The ski resort has a ski school, where qualified instructors teach children the basics of skiing. Smokovec has a children’s, seventy-meter, tow lift. Guests will also enjoy other entertainment – cross-country skiing, ice skating and sledding, mountaineering. At the resort there is an opportunity to visit the pool and steam in the sauna, have a nice time over a meal in a Slovak restaurant, taste intoxicating drinks in the bar and have fun at night discos! Tatranská Lomnica Ski Resort

The famous, large and beautiful ski resort of Tatranská Lomnica is located in the east of the High Tatras. The resort is a popular place to relax in both summer and winter! Numerous tourist routes to interesting places in the Slovak state begin here.

With the onset of the ski season, thousands of tourists from different countries flock to Tatranská Lomnica. The skiing area here is located at an altitude of 785 – 2200 meters. The resort has created excellent conditions for a full, active vacation and winter sports!

Ski tours to Tatranská Lomnica are especially popular from early December to early May. The snow cover at the resort is excellent and lasts a long time, which is a great thing for avid skiers and snowboarders.

In order to keep the slopes in excellent condition, snow cannons are used in Tatranská Lomnica. The slopes at the Tatranská Lomnica ski resort satisfy the needs of even the most experienced skiers! They are marked (in red and blue), illuminated at dusk, suitable for both beginners and athletes with extensive skiing experience. The total length of the downhill ski slopes is ten kilometers, and the cross-country ski slopes are fifteen kilometers. There are seven slopes in the resort – “blue”, “red” and “black”. There are only two difficult “black” slopes in Tatranská Lomnica. There are six lifts in the resort. Of these, one is a funicular, two gondolas, two tow-bars and one chairlift. Tourists can purchase a ski pass for one day, six days or for the entire season.

An important center for skiing is the small village of Skalná Pleso, located at an altitude of one thousand seven hundred and fifty meters. To get here, you need to use the cable car, which stretches at an altitude of four thousand one hundred meters from the Grand Praha Hotel.

It is also possible to get there by cable car from the Morava hotel complex. In the area called Lomnické Sidlo there is a slope, characterized by a width of three hundred to five hundred meters and a length of two thousand meters, on which “black” trails are laid, which are in demand among skiers who prefer downhill skiing, and are also intended for giant slalom.

If you climb a little higher, you can see short slopes that are chosen by beginners and inexperienced skiers. From Skalná Pleso there is a descent, which belongs to the category of medium difficulty, and meets all international standards. The length of the trail reaches three thousand three hundred meters. The height difference is seven hundred and thirty meters. This route ends at the intermediate station of the suspended cable car.

Down from the station, in the direction of Tatranská Lomnica, there is a descent that is two thousand six hundred meters long. The height difference here is two hundred seventy meters. A toboggan run is located just below the station.

Another popular skiing center is Jamy. There are two toboggan lifts here, reaching a length of seven hundred eighty and four hundred fifty meters.

Ski equipment rental is available at the Tatranská Lomnica resort. In the winter season, an ice rink is equipped here. The toboggan and bobsleigh track reaches a length of two thousand six hundred meters.

There is a school in Tatranská Lomnica where they teach skiing and snowboarding techniques, there are ski courses, and a children’s school. In addition to skiing, tourists at the resort will enjoy other entertainments – snowboarding (there is a freeride zone), snow tubing, snowmobiling. In Tatranská Lomnica you can also visit swimming pools and saunas, work out in gyms and play bowling. The resort has cozy restaurants and cafes, night bars and discos, as well as shops. Tourists should visit the restaurant “Kolibu”, which is distinguished by its special atmosphere and incredibly delicious cuisine. Guests who come to rest in Tatranská Lomnica can leave their car in a free parking lot. The distance from the ski resort to Poprad Airport is eighteen kilometers.

Jasná Ski Resort Low Tatras

The Jasna ski resort is located at the foot of the Chopok (northern) slopes, in the Low Tatras mountain range, which belongs to the Napant National Park. The resort is ideal for groups of young people and families with children, beginner skiers and winter sports professionals!

Jasna is an international tourist center belonging to the 1st category. The resort hosts large-scale national and international alpine skiing competitions every year. They are included in the European Cup calendar. The main skiing area is located on the southern and northern slopes of the mountain called Chopka. The skiing season at the Jasna resort starts in early December and lasts until the end of April.

Conventionally, there are four skiing areas at the Jasna resort:

  • Otupne (1140 – 1430 meters.). This area is suitable for beginner skiers.
  • Zahradky (1030 – 1450 meters). Here are the “red” trails, starting from Konsky Hrun and Prehyba.
  • Chopok-North (1230 – 2020 meters). Here are mainly “red” trails. There are also a couple of “black” trails up to two kilometers long.
  • Chopok-South (1160 – 2020 meters). In this area, “red” and “black” trails are laid. Here, skiers ski mainly above the forest level. There are also areas designated for skiing on virgin land.

In Yasna, stunningly beautiful nature! The resort has created excellent conditions for alpine skiing. There are fifty kilometers of trails here, differing from each other in difficulty. All of them, without exception, are well prepared. There are also trails designated for ski competitions of international importance.

The resort is equipped with a modern automated snowmaking system from Johnson Controls, which reaches a length of thirty-five kilometers. Thanks to the unique climate, the excellent snow cover at the resort lasts for quite a long time – as many as five months a year!

In total, the resort has forty-one slopes, with a total length of 50,130 meters. Of these, fourteen are easy (20,455 meters long), fourteen are medium (17,830 meters long), six are difficult (7,325 meters long) and seven are “skiroads” (4,520 meters long). The resort has twelve freeride zones.

Two of the trails in the tourist complex are illuminated at night. Thanks to this, you can ski even when it gets dark. Evening skiing is possible only on the nine-hundred-and-ninety-meter-long trail on Mount Chopok (north of the White Path).

To climb Mount Chopok, you should use one of the numerous lifts. There are twenty-seven towable ropeways and lifts. Their capacity is thirty-one thousand people per hour.

The resort has fourteen towable, five gondola and eight chairlifts. Для дітей підходять одинадцять підйомників – бугельні – «Брглиска», «Отупне», канатна дорога – «Лучки», «Бела Шлях», Grand Jet, MAXILAND – «Бела Шлях», «Лучки», Krupova.

Туристи зможуть придбати в касах Отупне, Білого Путу і Заградки скі-пас (магнітну картку), дійсний на всі існуючі на курорті підйомники.

У грудні, січні і в першій половині лютого підйомники працюють з 8:30 до 15:30. Графік роботи з другої половини лютого аж до завершення сезону – з 9:00 до 16:00. Вечірнє катання на двох трасах триває з 18:00 до 21:00.

У Отупне працює чудовий, сучасний сноу-парк, який підходить як початківцям лижниками, так і бордерам з великим досвідом катання. Нижня його частина має складні перешкоди. На курорті Ясна також працює найбільший в словацькій державі сноу-парк Maxiland. Тут азам катання на лижах навчають дітей кваліфіковані інструктори. По території курорту курсує безкоштовний скі-бас.

Туристи, що приїхали на відпочинок в Ясну, можуть подивитися природні пам’ятки – Деменівську печеру Свободи і Деменівську льодову печеру, відвідати музей природи і спелеології – «Ліптовські Мікулаш», помилуватися творчістю в картинній галереї імені П. М. Богуня, захоплююче провести час в аквапарку «Татраландія», що налічує дев’ять термальних басейнів відкритого типу, температура води в яких становить +24 +38 градусів за Цельсієм. Також в аквапарку обладнано вісімнадцять водних гірок, є велика кількість водних атракціонів, працює комплекс саун.

Туристам сподобається «Музей ліптовського села», «Прибилина», артикулярна церква під назвою «Святий Криж», споруджена з дерева, а також кельтське городище Гавранок, розташоване на півночі Словаччини. На його території археологами був розкопаний унікальний дерев’яний замок епохи середньовіччя.

Курорт Ясна порадує гостей численними комфортабельними готелями, барами, кафе, ресторанами і дискотеками. Туристи зможуть розважитися за грою в більярд і настільний теніс, відвідати басейн.

Гірськолижний курорт Подбанське

Комфортабельний, гірськолижний курорт Подбанське розкинувся на горі Кривань висотою 2494 метра, на межі Західних і Високих Татр, недалеко від Австрії. Курорт красується на висоті дев’ятсот сорок метрів вище моря. Його називають «вратами Високих Татр».

Від туристичного комплексу Подбанске до Старого Смаковця відстань становить тридцять два кілометри, а до Штребське Плесо – тринадцять кілометрів.

В даній місцевості настільки красива, незаймана природа, що вона не залишає байдужими навіть найдосвідченіших мандрівників!

Подбанське є невеликим курортним населеним пунктом словацької республіки з гідно розвиненою інфраструктурою і відмінним сервісом. Хороший сніговий покрив на курорті тримається з грудня по березень включно.

Подбанське особливо полюбили гірськолижники-новачки і сім’ї з дітьми. Тут функціонують гірськолижні школи. Висококваліфіковані інструктори, з великим досвідом роботи, навчають техніці катання на гірських лижах всіх бажаючих в максимально короткі терміни.

На курорті Подбанське розташовані різноманітні траси, як для початківців, так і для слаломістів-професіоналів, є відмінно підготовлені схили для сноубордистів, любителів бігових лиж. На курорті також знаходяться гірки, призначені для катання на санях. Траси для новачків і досвідчених гірськолижників знаходяться на висоті дев’ятсот п’ятдесят – одна тисяча сто метрів. В зону катання можна дістатися на двох бугельних підйомники, що досягають у довжину триста п’ятдесят і п’ятсот пятидесят метрів.

Всього на курорті розташовані чотири «сині» траси, діє чотири бугельних підйомника. У Подбанське можна придбати скі-пас на півдня, на один, два,три, чотири, п’ять, шість і сім днів.

Крім катання на лижах і сноубордах, в курортній зоні можна попаритися в лазні, пограти в боулінг, розважитися в диско-барі. На території Подбанське обладнані футбольний майданчик та тенісний корт.

Гірськолижний курорт Доновали

Доновали є відомим гірськолижним курортом словацької держави. Центр курортної зони розкинувся навколо населеного пункту з однойменною назвою (в самому серці національного парку Низькі Татри і Фатри).

Доновали умовно підрозділі на два гірськолижних району:

  • Заградиште. В тутешніх краях катаються початківці і недосвідчені лижники.
  • Нова Голя. Ареал катання характеризується досить складними трасами, спусками.

У Доновали є тринадцять легких спусків (5300 метрів), три середніх спуску (5100 метрів), один складний спуск (100 метрів). Туристичний комплекс володіє лижними школами, дитячими лижними садками, школами сноубордингу. Туристам надається лижний сервіс, прокат гірськолижного інвентарю.

Зона катання розташована на висоті дев’ятсот – одна тисяча триста шістдесят один метр вище моря. Протяжність гірськолижних трас досягає одинадцять кілометрів, а бігових – п’ятдесят вісім кілометрів. Перепад висот становить чотириста сорок сім метрів. Деякі траси освітлюються, тому можливо нічне катання.

Всього на курорті налічується сімнадцять трас – «червоні» (їх три) і «сині». У Доновали працюють шістнадцять сучасних підйомників: чотирнадцять бугельних і два крісельних. Також на курорті функціонує система штучного засніження схилів. Найдовша траса досягає 2200 метрів. Гоночні траси простяглися на двадцять п’ять тисяч метрів. Гірськолижний сезон в Доновали в середньому триває сто п’ятдесят днів. Гості зможуть придбати скі-пас тривалістю один день, шість днів, а також абонемент на цілий сезон.

У Доновали можна освоїти параглайдинг (політ на паропланах), відвідати сноубордпарк і фітнес-центр, попаритися в сауні, приємно провести час у ресторані і барі, потанцювати на дискотеці і обміняти валюту. На зимовому курорті регулярно проходять змагання собачих упряжок.

Відстань від гірськолижного курорту Доновали до аеропорту Попрад становить сто п’ятнадцять кілометрів. Відрізок шляху до Банська Бистриця – двадцять чотири кілометри, а до міста Ружомберок – тридцять кілометрів.
