Val di Fassa is a ski resort consisting of many recreation areas with hotels, bars, entertainment venues and excellent restaurants in a 20-kilometer long Alpine picturesque valley.

Val di Fassa Resort (Italy, Val di Fassa) is located in the very center of the Dolomites, it is the largest and most densely populated ski area. Unreachable peaks, amazing nature, bright sun, fresh mountain air, skiing and many other entertainments – all this awaits everyone who decides to visit the incomparable Val di Fassa. How to get to the resort

From Innsbruck (Austria) along the E35 highway to the resort area is approximately 155 km. Tourists get there by car (including those rented at the place of arrival, the travel time will be about 3 hours), buses and by booked transfer from the airport (travel time is about 2.5 hours).

From the city’s railway station, electric trains will take you to Bolzano (45 km), which provides several bus routes to the resort villages of the valley (total travel time at least 5 hours). In winter, flights are organized to Innsbruck.

From Verona along the A22 / E35 highway to the resort towns is approximately 190 km. Cars (including rented ones), transfers on request (including group ones) or buses on the route are possible means of delivering guests to the cherished mountains. There are no direct bus flights, with transfers on the way you will have to spend about 5 hours. Cars will help reduce the journey to 2.5 – 3 hours.

Traveling from Milan (275 km), Venice (260 km), Brescia (220 km) takes more time on these types of transport due to their greater distance from Val di Fassa. High-speed trains in Italy go to Trento (82 km), then local bus routes to the resort (approximately 2 hours).

Weather at the resort

At the beginning of winter, more than half of the days in the resort are sunny, daytime temperatures range from + 2^о С to -7^о С; at night it is colder to -14^о С in the middle of the month. The first month of the new year is full of sunny days, during daylight hours the temperature rises to 0 ° С and drops to – 10^о С, at night – 12 – 14^о С is steadily observed.

February is characterized by unstable temperatures: during the day – 2 – 6^оС, at night – up to – 16^оС (short-term frosts below 20^оС are possible). The beginning of spring pleases tourists with an increase in daytime temperatures to positive values, but at the same time the night thermometer drops to – 8 – 10^оС (sometimes to – 16^оС). The best time to relax at the resort.

Weather conditions are conducive to relaxation and sports activities from January to March. March is considered the most favorable: the temperature is comfortable during the day, there are more sunny days, there is practically no snow, at night there is a slight minus, the slopes are rolled and pleasant for skiing.

Resort infrastructure

Val di Fassa is a ski resort, on the territory of which there are hotels from simple economy (about 90) to standard (more than 150) and high comfort (more than 20). A large number of houses (more than 600) are ready to offer apartments with equipped kitchens and cozy rooms. Advance booking is possible.

More than 60 restaurants, 20 pubs and 10 bars are ready to satisfy the culinary needs of tourists. At night, 7 discos entertain guests.

Special buses (skibas) run between the towns, the system of lifts in the mountains is practically arranged and allows you to quickly reach the upper points of the desired slopes or move to neighboring slopes.

Pistes, slopes and lifts

As for the Val di Fassa slopes, they can be divided into three main skiing areas. The first unites the territories of Campitello and Canazei. The second is a small independent area above the resort of Alba (1460m). The third covers the towns of Pozza (1320m) and Vigo di Fassa (1390m).

Equipped trails in the mountains stretch for more than 230 km with a difference in altitude from 1300 m to almost 3 km.

There are over 70 slopes of varying difficulty, up to 130 km long, including:

for beginners (blue) – 27;
of medium difficulty (red) – 40;
for professionals (black) – 7.

Ski enthusiasts are lifted up by:

funiculars (7);
lifts with equipped cabins (4);
chair lifts (36);
towbar lifts (34).

The Catinaccio – Rosengarten ski area (altitude difference 1400 – 2350 m) is located above the quiet settlements of Pozza di Fassa and Vigo di Fassa. More than 40 km of slopes of varying difficulty and one track illuminated at night are equipped with lifts.

The track above Pozza operates not only during the day, but also at night, thus claiming to hold stages of the World Cup competitions. The famous Italian skier Alberto Tomba trains on the local slopes, which is an additional reason for the arrival of ski enthusiasts.

Near the town of Canazei (1465 m) there are ski slopes of all levels of difficulty and several training schools; a funicular operates, lifting tourists to the Belvedere-Coll Rodella stadium. The paths of the Sella Ronda zone begin from it. This place is reached from Campitello (1450 m).

The Ciampac area (Alba di Canazei) is famous for its difficult slopes for professionals.

The quiet village of Mazzini di Fassa (1370 m) offers flat ski slopes and cozy small hotels, convenient bus routes to other places in the resort.

Val di Fassa is a ski resort, which has some features for Ukrainian tourists:

school instructors communicate in English, German and Italian;
long-distance hiking requires good knowledge of the operating hours of the lifts to avoid troubles in the evening hours;
during the largest “inflow” of skiing enthusiasts, the ascent time to the beginning of the route increases;
paid travel on buses between settlements (ticket 3 euros – single, 7 euros – for weekly trips together with the presentation of a ski pass, children under 6 years old are not allowed to travel paid);
at the foot of the mountains, parking is paid (approximately 5 euros / day);
skiing in Campitello is not possible;
it is preferable for car travelers to make a stop in Moena, from which many ski lifts can be quickly reached by bus.

Ski passes

The approximate price for the skiing region in VAL DI FASSA, depending on the season: from 40 euros per day to 250 for 6 days, for children – almost half the price.

This region includes the towns of Campitello (with the suburbs of Fontanazzo, Mazzini, Campestrin) and Canazei (Alba, Peña), a component of Sella Ronda – a ski agglomeration united by common lifts.

On the slopes, visitors on skis (snowboards) can, without taking off their equipment, travel around the surroundings for more than 400 km, admiring the panorama of snow-capped mountain peaks and picturesque slopes that opens up.

gondola and cable cars – 12;

with cabins – 17;

with chairs – 30.

The trails have a length of:

blue class – 32 km;
red class – 8 km;
black class – 12 km;
2nd with night lighting – about 3 km;
equipped snow parks and children’s parks for learning to ski.

Where to ski

Beginner skiers who confidently control their body can use the routes on the slopes of the Belvedere and K-Rodella peaks and on the Passo Sella pass, which have steep and gentle slopes with sufficient width for maneuvers; fast lifts and good snow cover. For those wishing to learn the basics of snowboarding, there are schools with attentive instructors who speak several languages in the towns of Canazei, Moena, Campitello, Vigo di Fassa and Pozza di Fassa.

Near the town of Canazei is the Ciampac slope, from its beginning you can reach Sella Brunes by chairlift (altitude over 2.4 km). Several easy blue slopes start here.

Skiers with an average level of training can use most of the resort slopes. Steep, wide slopes and fast lifts are located on the mountain stadium between the peaks of C-Rodella and Passo Sella (altitude about 2.3 km).

Experienced athletes train on the slopes of Mount Ciampac, use off-piste slopes, driving onto them from the rolled sections (from the peaks of Belvedere and C-Rodella). Such skiing is associated with the danger of avalanches!

Hotels and apartments

Skiing enthusiasts should pay attention to the location of recreation areas in relation to the lifts. Accommodation in apartments (separate rooms, chalets, houses) is popular, which have separate kitchen areas and are designed for large companies or families.

After skiing in the mountains, resort guests can take advantage of the numerous entertainments of local towns:

services and equipment of the sports center in Canazei (saunas, indoor pool, fitness classes, squash, paragliding); equipment of the Moen sports complex (fitbox, spinning, fitness, bodybuilding);

The aforementioned dolls participate in carnival events that take place on the streets of settlements in February and March. A few kilometers from the mentioned town, there is an old sawmill La Sia, which is offered to be visited with a sightseeing tour.

It is impossible not to mention the wonderful tradition of this place – the February Ladin Carnival. It is a colorful costume show with masks of various characters from Italian legends and tales.
