The traditional Tyrolean village of Igls is located on a picturesque plateau 7 km from Innsbruck. Together with Innsbruck, Igls has hosted the Winter Olympics twice. It was here that Austrian Franz Klammer won gold in the downhill at the 1976 Olympics. The Pacherkofel ski area, where the Olympic alpine skiing competitions were held, rises above the Tyrolean capital.

After the Olympics, there was one red slope left and a lift that goes from the center of the village. The Eagles Resort has slopes of varying difficulty levels, so aces, beginners, and children will feel equally comfortable here.

500 km of slopes and 200 lifts, including the Stubai Glacier. The Super Skipass also includes 2 free trips to St. Anton and Kitzbühl. In the village itself there is an Olympic slope with a height difference of more than 1000 m, accessible to all categories of skiers. Patscherkofel (900 m – 2246 m) offers beginners a good blue slope and one and a half slopes of medium difficulty. Here are excellent conditions for getting on skis.

For sports enthusiasts: a sports center with a swimming pool, indoor tennis courts, ice skating and sledding, squash, curling, bowling alley, toboggan and bobsleigh tracks, paragliding. At your service at the resort: a cinema, several restaurants and bars will brighten up the evenings at the resort. Snow cannons guarantee snow cover throughout the winter season.

Resort Features

The ski area is located at an altitude of 900 to 2247 meters above sea level and consists of several slopes with a total 20 kilometers long. 9.2 kilometers are occupied by blue slopes, 10.8 kilometers by red, and there are no black slopes here at all, so this resort, due to its size and slopes, is perfect for lovers of a quiet family vacation or, for example, for pensioners. In Igls there are only 8 lifts and 3 ski schools.

The Pacherkofel ski area, where the Olympic alpine skiing competitions were held in 1964 and 1976, is considered “home” for the residents of Innsbruck and rises 1400 m above the capital of Tyrol. Despite its rather modest size, Pacherkofel has all the conditions for winter sports, and the ski slopes are suitable for both beginners and athletes. You can get to the start of the slopes from the Igls using the Pendelbahn lift, as well as from the Roman road (Römerstraße), using the 4-seater Olympiaexpress chairlift. All 18 km of local slopes are ideally prepared for skiing and equipped with a modern artificial snowmaking system.

Three ski and snowboard schools have been opened to teach skiing skills. There is a ski kindergarten. If the Pacherkofel ski area is not enough, you can purchase a single ski pass “Innsbrucker Gletscher Skipass”, which gives access to eight ski areas with a total length of 230 km of slopes and 75 lifts.

Many people claim that there is practically no entertainment in this village. Don’t believe it! Iglesias Resort is certainly not Ibiza or Amsterdam, but there is something to do in the evening. Restaurants, bars, a cinema, a club are open for skiers and snowboarders tired from the day, as well as sympathizers. For those who still have strength left for sports after an active day, there is a bowling alley. Children will surely enjoy horse-drawn sleigh rides (by the way, a special kindergarten has been created for toddlers in Iglesias).

A beautiful example of Baroque architecture is the parish church. An organ was installed in it in 1849. Also interesting parish church of St. Martin, located in Villa. The first mention of it appeared in documents from 1397.

On the Pacherkofel mountain in Heiligwasser there is a pilgrimage church. It is located at an altitude of 1240 m and is famous for its “healing waters”. The “Visitor’s Home” museum occupies the first floor of the tourist information center.

Its small exhibition is updated annually. In winter, concerts are held here. In Innsbruck you can visit the “Alpine Garden”, open from June to September.

Igls Trails and Slopes

Despite the fact that Igls is popular as a family ski resort, experienced athletes and fans of extreme descents often come here. Igls Resort operates from December to April, when this system has trails for both beginners and true aces of this sport. Moreover, Igls is often called a real paradise for fans of cross-country skiing and snowboarding. Those who are just taking their first steps in skiing will be able to experience almost all Tyrolean skiing areas in Igls. The lower station of the cable car is located near most hotels, and free buses can take vacationers to other Tyrolean resorts.

Such six-day ski passes cost about 155 euros for adults and 93 euros for children.

Individual training with an instructor will be about one and a half times more expensive. It is worth noting that in Ingls has a kindergarten where you can leave your child under the supervision of experienced teachers. Importantly, the resort offers ski and snowboard equipment rental. A weekly rental of a set costs 120-130 euros, and if you rent last season’s models, the price will be almost a third lower.

Hotels, restaurants and attractions of the resort

Those who choose Igls ski resort usually stay either in the village itself or in neighboring Innsbruck. While the Tyrolean capital offers both inexpensive three- and four-star hotels and high-class five-star ones, Igls remains a fiefdom of chalets. Popular hotels include the Sporthotel Igls 4 *, built from natural materials and offering guests rooms with mountain views, nutritious breakfasts and always impeccable service. The cost of accommodation is 114 – 285 euros per day depending on the type of room. No less popular are rooms in the cozy Sonnenhof and Leitgebhof 3 * at a price of 70 – 80 euros per day. It is also worth mentioning the Batzenhausl 4 *, the interiors of which harmoniously combine modern technology and 19th century decor. Of the inexpensive hotels, the two-star Gstrein hotel deserves attention.

On the territory of the Igls ski resort there are currently three bars and about 10 restaurants offering European and national Tyrolean cuisine. Lunch in such a restaurant will cost about 18 euros, while a cup of coffee can be drunk for about 1.5 – 2.5 euros. In addition to traditional restaurants and bars serving national dishes, there is an original ice igloo cafe in Igls, stylized as an ice hut.

It is worth adding that this region of Austria has long been famous for its healing thermal waters, which are now widely used in various spas, where it is so nice to relax after an active day spent on the slopes. Tourists can also diversify their vacation by going to multifunctional sports center, squash hall, large tennis court, swimming in the indoor pool, going to the bowling alley, etc. It will also be interesting to walk around the city itself. A beautiful example of Baroque architecture is the parish church. An organ was installed in it in 1849. Also interesting is the parish church of St. Martin, located in the Villa.

The Visitor’s Home Museum occupies the first floor of the tourist information center.

Its small exhibition is updated annually. In winter, concerts are held here. In Innsbruck, you can visit the Alpine Garden, open from June to September.
