Macugnaga, part of the Monte Rosa Ski complex, is located at an altitude of 1,327 meters on the eastern slope of the Monte Rosa mountain range, the highest wall in the Alps, which is 2,600 m high and 3 km wide, posing a real challenge to climbers, for which it was called the “Himalayan Face of the Alps”.

This is an ideal place for winter sports and enjoying the silence surrounded by untouched nature. Both professionals and beginners feel comfortable here. Ten lifts of various types lift skiers to a height of 1,410 to 2,900 meters, nine ski runs of the resort are marked in blue, nine in red and two in black.

In Macunyazi you can practice snowboarding, go snowshoeing, have a nice time in the snow park, and take part in ski races. Ski mountaineering enthusiasts can devote a whole day to high-altitude ski climbs under the guidance of experienced instructors, while admiring the magical beauty of the Alpine landscapes that open up. Those who are fond of ice climbing will also get a lot of impressions and strong emotions. Ski schools operate especially for beginners and for those who would like to improve their technique.

Many climbers have given their lives to Monte Rosa, losing the battle with the wall they were trying to conquer. On the northern slopes of the massif, the largest glacier of the Pennine Alps, the Horner (length 14.1 km, area 68.9 km), begins, consisting of 8 merging streams. Monte Rosa is located in the same mountain range as the Matterhorn. It seems that the name Monte Rosa comes from the word “rosa”, which denotes the pink color that snowy peaks can be painted at dawn and sunset, but in fact Rosa in the local dialect means “glacier”.

Macunaga is located at the foot of Monte Rosa, which is worth a trip in itself. In spirit and atmosphere, it is a typical “resort for locals”. Its small size saves Macunaga from crowds of busloads of picket tourists. Instead of crowds, there is peace, friendliness and truly Italian hospitality, which is difficult to experience in a tourist place. And, by the way, excellent slopes. There are trails of any level, and the highest point reached by the lift exceeds 3000 meters. Here, in the neighborhood, rise the main peaks of the Italian Alps Dufour (4633 m.) And Gnifetti (4559 m.) In the town of Pecetto there is a snow park, with illuminated slopes that work until late in the evening.

There are a couple of small slopes for beginners right in the village itself.

Apres-ski: skating rink, trekking, spa. Prices for food and everything else are humane.

You need to fly to Milan, and from there get there by bus.
