The small village of Santa Caterina is located in the Lombardy region. This famous winter resort is considered part of the famous ski region of Italy, Valtellina. The local places are full of steep mountain slopes, which cover gorgeous forests, in the winter season they hide under a massive cap of soft fluffy snow.

The ski resort of Santa Caterina Valfurva offers over 40 km of ski slopes at an altitude of 1700 to 2800 meters. The climate in this resort is quite cold, but this feature, supplemented by snow cannons, allows you to keep the slopes in working order from late November to early May. The resort of Santa Caterina Valfurva is especially attractive for those who practice Nordic skiing disciplines. There is also a great opportunity to ski on untouched ski slopes in the spring.

For ski racing enthusiasts, there are two circular ski runs with a total length of 15 km, running through the forest. Under the guidance of experienced ski school instructors, both children and adults learn to confidently hold on to skis and snowboards. Mountaineering enthusiasts can also feel completely safe: experienced professionals are ready to accompany tourists who want to conquer the mountain peaks, to tell them how to move correctly on the icy slopes. The resort also has a large ice rink with natural ice cover.

The Santa Caterina ski area does not have a large number of kilometers of snow-covered slopes, but the entire Alta Valtellina region has a whole scattering of excellent routes suitable for all categories of skiers. All slopes are equipped with modern lifts and are connected to each other by a network of cable cars. A free tourist bus runs regularly between the resorts. In addition to having a great time on the snow slopes, guests of the ski complex have a great opportunity to relax and regain strength in one of the three thermal centers of the Stelvio reserve. This region can be fully considered a universal vacation spot, as ideal conditions are created here not only for winter sports enthusiasts, but also for people who simply want to improve their health among the majestic Italian Alps, enjoying the clean air and the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

Santa Caterina Ski Resort, Italy
The Santa Caterina ski area has just under two dozen trails, most of which are designed for intermediate skiers. There are only two routes for beginners and professionals. The most popular trails of the resort are located on the slopes of Monte Sobretta at an altitude of 2,700 meters, and the descents from them lead directly to the village. They are quite difficult for beginners, but interesting for skiers with good experience. In the town of Passo Gavia, the sections are a little easier, but there is also a test for beginners, which, however, is quite within the power of the latter. The local Santa Caterina stadium, specially equipped with training runs and a short lift, serves as an ideal starting point for beginners in the world of skiing. Next to the stadium is the station from which the cable car leads to Monte Sobretta. These places are also recommended for experienced skiers, as well as snowboarders and other “boarders” who prefer steep and rugged slopes. Fans of flat skiing are not deprived of attention in Santa Caterina, along with connoisseurs of natural landscapes, for whom special hiking trails have been laid here, with stunning views of the surrounding beauty of the Stelvio National Park.

As a rule, true ski lovers who come to the resort and stay in local hotels prefer to buy a single “ski pass” for the entire Valtellina skiing region in order to have at their disposal more than a hundred kilometers of slopes and almost unlimited skiing opportunities.
What is there to do outside of skiing?
The resort is famous for its peace and quiet, there is no bustling nightlife. However, the city has 5 bars, 7 restaurants, an ice rink, a swimming pool, hotels and apartments. Most of the guests of Santa Caterina choose the following establishments for accommodation: Country Resort & Spa Capo Nieddu, La Baja, Is Benas Country Lodge, Appartamento del Cardellini, Villa Cenza. The resort is suitable for family holidays and skiers with different levels of training.
The entertainment infrastructure in Santa Caterina is not very diverse and rich, so for these purposes, vacationers are best off going to nearby tourist villages. The main attraction here is the Valfurva Historical and Ethnographic Museum, which recreates the atmosphere of the Middle Ages and tells in detail about the life of farmers and artisans who lived on these lands at that time. The museum is open daily only from May to September, and in winter it opens its doors only to excursion groups of at least ten people. The most picturesque landscapes of the surrounding nature open before the eyes of visitors to the Stelvio National Reserve, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in this region. Various types of unique animals live here. Among the birds, woodpeckers, partridges, golden eagles and capercaillies are common.

The main attractions of Stelvio are the thermal centers: Bagni Nuovi, Bagni Vecchi and Bormio Terme. Each of them has its own characteristics and characteristics. Bagni Nuovi includes several thermal zones at once. All of them are equipped with mud baths, pools, waterfalls, saunas and solariums.
