It must be said that even the Thracian tribes noted the healing power of the local mud and waters. History continued in the 19th century, when the same properties were already noted by the Turks. The first health resorts appeared here at the beginning of the 20th century, and as a result, Pomorie became an excellent and modern resort, where you can improve your health, relax at sea, and see something interesting.

Therefore, you will not feel the oppressive heat, even in the height of summer. In the morning, the air is saturated with ozone, ultraviolet and iodine. In general, the climate of Pomorie is temperate continental with a Mediterranean influence. There is very little precipitation in summer, and the main rainy season is autumn.

Beaches Pomorie

There are a sufficient number of beaches in these places. They are mostly sandy, but not with golden or white sand, but with black. This sand has healing properties. Most beaches are equipped with changing rooms, you can rent a sunbed and umbrella, and there are organized meals and entertainment. But there are also wild beaches, as well as a coast for nudists. Sightseeing in Pomorie and the surrounding area

Historical sites of Pomorie are concentrated in the Old Town, which is located on a peninsula connected to the rest of the settlement by a small isthmus. In the Old Town you will see narrow streets paved with stone everywhere. The main part of the buildings here is represented by houses with a stone lower part and a wooden upper part.

The most significant sight of Pomorie, which you can see on vacation in 2018, is the Monastery of St. George the Victorious. It was built in the 7th century, when a Thracian sanctuary stood in this place. There is a holy spring near the monastery. Having driven a few kilometers from the city, you will come to the site of an ancient tomb of the Thracian era. During the Roman rule, this tomb was used as a mausoleum.

In the Salt Museum, you can see an exhibition that reflects the entire process of salt and healing mud extraction, as it was several centuries ago. Here are the tools of the workers, their everyday objects, samples of clothing of that era. There is a small Historical Museum in the city, where you can see exhibits belonging to the ancient and even prehistoric era.

It is worth going to Pomorie Lake, which gives resort guests the opportunity to improve their health. But it is wonderful not only for this: there is a large ornithological reserve here, which is worth visiting for all lovers of wildlife. Some of them are listed in the Red Book.

You can go further. As mentioned, Burgas is located very close. In this city you can look at the beautiful lakes, relax in the picturesque Primorsky Park, visit the island of St. Anastasia, where the monastery of the 15th century is located. Burgas has an Archaeological, Historical, Ethnographic Museum, and an Art Gallery.

In two hours (by taking a tour or renting a car), you can get to Varna. If vacationers are bored in Pomorie because they did not have enough sights, such a trip will definitely compensate for all the costs of it. Salt Museum

A unique museum not only in Bulgaria, but also in all of Eastern Europe. The museum has been operating since 2002 and offers its guests to follow the process of salt production by evaporation in the sun (ancient anchial technology, it is called). Everything is like in ancient times. Simply, in this area salt mining is one of the main industries. On the one hand, this was done even before the city was founded. That’s right, because salt is “white gold”.

The open-air museum is spread over two hectares. The salt basins are divided by dams made of earth and wood. Plus, you can look at a collection of photographs from the beginning of the last century and important documents from the 15th-19th centuries, all “about salt”. And here you can also see the tools of salt miners: wooden carts, rafts, etc. Not far from the museum is a lake, which is a protected area, and 200 species of birds live on its shores – you can watch them with special cameras. This lake stretches along the shore. The salt content is as much as 75 percent. Access to the lake is free. And around the lake are SPA salons and hospitals (naturally, salt and various mud baths based on it are very good for health).

Reserve “Old Houses of Pomorie”

Those historical buildings that survived the terrible fire of 1906 (which destroyed almost the entire city) are now united into the architectural complex “Old Houses of Pomorie”. It contains buildings from the 19th century, everything is picturesque, impressive. Wonderful old atmosphere. It is interesting that the first floors of many houses are made of stone, the second floors are made of wood. On the one hand, this is so that the dampness from the sea does not corrode the buildings. Logical! The roofs are covered with tiles, through which greenery breaks through in some places. The houses are private property, so you cannot go inside. Well, only if you agree, if you can, of course. But you can look into the Historical Museum of Pomorie and admire the old fishing houses. To get to the reserve, take bus number 1 and go to the Old Town quarter.

When is it better to relax in Pomorie?

The small but quite popular resort Pomorie, located between Burgas and Nessebar, is spread out on two shores of the Black Sea and Pomorie Lake. Moreover, Pomorie is located on a peninsula protruding into the sea and the water practically washes the village from all sides, in front and on the sides by the sea, and behind by the lake. By August, the sea warms up to the maximum and the water temperature reaches +26 degrees. This time is well suited for a family vacation with children, but when choosing a hotel, it is worth considering the peculiarity of this resort that the western part of the peninsula is very inconvenient for a beach holiday and it will be very problematic to relax there, especially with children. In principle, Pomorie is chosen more precisely because of the mud therapy, most tourists are usually older people, so if you are not satisfied with a calm and quiet vacation, then of course it is better to choose from other, more youthful options.

September, in our opinion, is the best month for a vacation in Pomorie. First, prices are already starting to drop a little, and the absence of school-age children, who start classes by this time, makes the resort even calmer and quieter. More free space on the beach, and even in the case of an individual trip, the choice of accommodation options increases significantly. September is considered the most stable month in terms of weather and there is almost no rain this month.

By the beginning of October, the season is practically over, although it can still be quite warm, but in the evenings it becomes cool and the sea temperature also begins to drop rapidly.

What currency is better to take with you to Pomorie?

Going to any resort, whether it is an individual trip or a purchased tour, you will need finances for various expenses, and Pomorie is no exception. Although Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, it still uses its own currency – the Bulgarian lev. The ideal option would be to have levs with you.

Of course, you are unlikely to find such currency in your homeland, so it is best to take Euros with you. Firstly, Euros can be exchanged at any currency exchange office in Bulgaria, and secondly, if necessary, you can also pay with them. If you are going on vacation by personal transport, then some currency can be exchanged at the border checkpoint when entering Bulgaria. We say a little because the exchange rate at the cash desks when entering the country is usually not very favorable. Both points accept Euros, US dollars, Swiss francs and British pounds sterling for exchange. Banks are open from 9:00 to 17:00.
