In Andorra, a small principality in the Pyrenees, there are several dozen ski resorts, bases, centers and villages or towns where you will find a wonderful winter vacation. Usually, two skiing areas are distinguished, these are Vallnord and Grandvalira (or Grand Valira). It should be noted that each region must unite several towns or villages. Moreover, to avoid confusion, you need to understand that sometimes one resort is called by a double name, and each name denotes a separate village or town. This is due to the small distances, with the fact that from one town to another there may be less than a mile, or they are simply located on the neighboring slopes of the valley. Or connected by bus routes or ski lifts and slopes.

Pal-Arinsal

So, the best ski resorts in Andorra are in Vallnord. It combines two skiing sectors: Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís. In the latter two, you can rarely see an excessive number of guests. So here there is a chance to catch the majestic winter peace of the mountains.
The Grandvalira ski area is the valley of the Valira River, which connects a whole galaxy of resorts. You will find Pas de la Casa, Grau Roch, El Territorio, Soldeu, Encamp and Canillo. There are many slopes for beginners.

Pas de la Casa – Grau Roch

Pas de la Casa – Grau Roch is the largest ski tandem of Andorran resorts, located on the border with France and considered the highest mountain resort in the Pyrenees. There are two valleys here, and guests are pleased with the variety of slopes and the well-groomed slopes equipped with a modern lift system.
As a winter youth resort, ski Andorra attracts snowboarding fans, many skiing regions can boast specially equipped parks for practicing this sport. Excellent opportunities for training beginners and family vacations with children, there are Russian-speaking instructors. Ski tours to Andorra are best booked in February or March, when there is still a lot of snow, but prices are already falling before the spring off-season.

The tiny principality of Andorra hides in the mountains, produces nothing, has no army or even an airport – and all because it saves itself for you, dear travelers. Millions of tourists come here every year and fall in love: with stunning landscapes, clean Pyrenean air and very tolerant prices at resorts and in shops. In terms of accessibility, Andorra surpasses the famous resorts of Austria, France, Switzerland and Spain, and in terms of functionality and service it is not inferior to them at all.

There are two winter recreation areas in Andorra, which combine several resorts:

Vallnord

Pal / Arinsal (Pal / Arinsal)

Ordino / Arcalis (Ordino / Arcalis)

Grandvalira

Pas de la Casa / Grau Roch (Pas de la Casa / Grau Roig)

Soldeu / El Tarter/ Canillo

Encamp

The winter season in Andorra begins in December, but skiers and snowboarders are advised to go here after the New Year, in late January – February, when there is already a lot of snow on the slopes. As for temperatures, they will be comfortable all winter: the sun in Andorra is gentle and comes out often, on a winter day the air can warm up to +5 °C. Let’s see what slopes the resorts of Andorra have and what they offer tourists with skis and snowboards.

Skiers in Andorra

Vallnord

We call Vallnord a resort, but in fact it is a “conglomerate” of resorts on the border with Spain. Any of them guarantees you a picturesque landscape and a good difference in altitude, but still each of the resorts of Vallnord is unique in its own way. There is a place to go for both a beginner and a professional, a party animal and an introvert. The total length of Vallnord ski slopes is 89 km, mostly blue and red (24 each), green – 10, black – 7. There are also slalom sections.

Vallnord

Pal-Arinsal

The Pal and Arinsal ski resorts are located in close proximity (10 km) from the capital of Andorra la Vella and are connected by a single Seturia lift and even a special free shuttle. Many travelers use the following scheme: they ski on the slopes of Arinsal and Pal, and then, to “change the picture”, go to have fun in La Massana. It does not have its own skiing area, but there is everything else: hotels, restaurants, and a lift to the neighboring slope.

To relax with the family, choose Pal, and for a more lively and youth vacation – Arinsal. In addition, there is a larger selection of hotels here, and the slopes are more serious and even more treacherous, because the height difference exceeds a kilometer! That is why Arinsal is loved by freeriders-snowboarders. And Arinsal loves them – it keeps snow on its northern slopes until mid-spring, and is also insured by snow cannons. Well, Pal is more suitable for beginners in skiing or calm lovers.

Equipment and slopes

The entire Pal-Arinsal area is served by 30 lifts, of which 4 are designed for children.

The total length of the slopes is 6300 m. Among them:

black – 5

green – 4

blue – 16

red – 16

There are free zones for freeride and freestyle. Paragliding, snow rafting, snow biking and telemark skiing are offered.

There are about 20 hotel complexes in Pal-Arinsal that offer not only accommodation but also entertainment. Famous DJs regularly host parties, fitness centers and spas entice you to relax and strengthen – who needs what – treatments, cafes and eateries await you with Catalan and international feasts. Nightclubs are mostly located in Arinsal and La Massana. And if you are interested in culture, see the medieval parish church in Pali. It is open to visitors only in summer, but if you make an appointment in advance at the La Massana tourist office, they will arrange a tour for you. More

Ordino-Arcalis

These bases are located a little further from the capital and are recommended, first of all, for skiers “with a past”. Especially Arcalis, where there is almost no housing – only slopes, only speed! People who do not yet know how to handle it will be exciting here. Beginners are allocated 6 green slopes, and those who continue – 8 red and blue, 2 black and one steep. Experience rules! True, it is here that the longest track for beginners in Andorra is laid – it lasts 8 km. There is also an opinion that Ordino-Arcalis is the best thing that can happen to a snowboarder in Andorra: there is a snow park for “boards” here, and it has a springboard and a half-pipe. Bordercrosses are often organized.

Equipment and tracks

The entire area is equipped with lifts, 14 in total. There is an instructor school and a children’s skiing school, a kids’ club for kids from 2 to 4 years old – for 25 euros there will be supervision for 2 hours and even the first skiing lessons. There are equipment rental points and a medical center. The trails are as follows:

green – 6

black – 2

blue – 8

red – 8

slalom – 1

Do you prefer the quiet and cozy atmosphere of a restaurant? There will be four of them, and the same number of bars. After dinner, visit the nearby souvenir shops or the cinema.

Ordino is recommended for hikers as the most romantic place in all of Andorra. The town is small, but you will walk along its stone pavements for a long time, admiring the old houses and churches. There are several interesting museums here, but the museum of microminiatures will surely impress you the most. More

Pas de la Casa – Grau Roch

The most respectable and lively ski region in Andorra. Prices are higher here, but for good reason. Since this is the highest “roller coaster” in the Pyrenees (the highest point is 2640 m, can you imagine the view from there?), there are many trails of different levels, including descents with a large height difference, forest trails, areas for slalom, freeride and boardercross, as well as a half-pipe. The most modern cable car brings skiers and snowboarders here even from the center of Andorra. Tourists of all ages come here both in low and high season, but thanks to the scale and large selection of trails, there is no crowding. 6 причин “ЗА”
