The ski and climatic resort Rogla/Terme Zreče is located at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, in the north-eastern part of Slovenia, in the Pohorje mountain region, which belongs to the historical region of Lower Styria. Together, they form a unique resort complex, which is on the one hand a ski center (Rogla), and on the other – a thermal center (Terme Zreče). The Rogla Medical Center (located in the Planja Hotel) has a pulmonology outpatient clinic staffed by pulmonologists and an allergist. Due to the appropriate climatic conditions on Rogla (1517 m), the resort was granted the status of a climatic resort with medicinal air in 1996. Climatotherapy is recommended from May to October. Rogla Wellness Center, open from 9:00 to 21:00, includes swimming pools (indoor, whirlpools, children’s pool); sauna center (Turkish, Finnish, infrared, carbon), baths (relaxing, milk, romantic baths for two), massages (Thai – traditional, with oils, herbs, reflex and massages for stress relief).

Congress Center: 7 halls, 4 of them recently renovated with modern equipment, wireless Internet, equipment for simultaneous translation and interactive powerpiont.

The Rogla Sports and Olympic Center is located at an altitude of 1517 m above sea level in a wonderful place among the coniferous forest, it is an ideal place for active training of athletes. The indoor sports complex has playgrounds for playing handball, mini-football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, a squash room, a martial arts hall, a fitness center, 2 artificial walls (2.9 m and 9 m) for climbers. Next to the indoor complex there are also outdoor sports facilities: a stadium, a stadium with artificial grass, an athletic track, a handball field, mini-football, basketball and 4 sand, tennis courts. Equipment for all of the above sports can be rented at the sports center.

In 2008, the cross-country skiing range was renovated in Rogla.

Both experts and beginners can enjoy skiing in Rogla. The perfectly laid ski slopes run through a pine forest. Thanks to the presence of snow cannons, the ski season lasts from December to mid-April.

The length of the Rogla slopes is about 12 km. At the same time, 1.5 km are for professionals, more than 8 km are medium-level trails, and 2 km have an initial status and are intended for beginners. The resort also has a high-quality adrenaline winter-summer toboggan run of 1450 m (120 m drop), a specialized kindergarten on the snow, a school: alpine and cross-country skiing, telemark, rental, service and storage of ski equipment and several sections with a total length of about 30 kilometers, focused on cross-country skiing fans. There are skiing areas for “dosochenniki”. Night lighting is available for skiing in the dark. Local time coincides with Kiev.

A brief excursion into history

Tourism began to develop in Pohorje even before the start of World War II, but during the military operations most of the buildings and the entire infrastructure were destroyed, so from the second half of the last century a large-scale modernization of the resort began. In the 70s, the road leading to the top of the mountain was widened and new modern lifts appeared on Rogla. Then the Planja hotel was built and a system for replenishing the slopes with artificial snow was equipped, largely thanks to which this ski resort can boast the longest winter season in Slovenia.

Climate

Since Rogla is located at a decent altitude, the weather conditions here are strongly influenced by the mountains. In winter it is quite cool and snowy, and in spring, when bright sunlight begins to shine, the snow begins to melt and then snow cannons intervene, providing the necessary thickness of the snow cover. The ski season here starts in November and ends only in April, allowing winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy skiing for 6 months a year. In summer, vacationers “move” further down the slope, to Terme Zreče, where they enjoy the luxurious green landscapes and take therapeutic baths with thermal water.

How to get there

The nearest international airport is 110 km from the resort center, in Ljubljana. From there, you can get there by taxi, bus or train. There is also the possibility of renting a car. A special bus runs between Terme Zreče and Roglej several times a day, with the frequency increasing during the peak of the winter season.
