The Tatranská Lomnica ski resort is located in the eastern part of the High Tatras, in Slovakia. This ski center is located 6 km from Smokovets, at an altitude of about a thousand meters above sea level. It has a developed infrastructure, good slopes, a mild climate and other advantages, annually attracting numerous fans of winter sports to its picturesque slopes.

In many ways, this is why the resort is not yet among the best ski resorts in Slovakia. The quality and quantity of snow on the slopes of Tatranská Lomnica sometimes leaves much to be desired, and regular queues for lifts make it somewhat difficult to move between skiing areas. For those who wish, a children’s ski school with qualified instructors is open here. There are ski equipment and inventory rental points, storage rooms, as well as technical service stations.
The maximum elevation difference on the slopes of Tatranská Lomnica is over 800 meters, with a total length of ski slopes of over 4.5 km.

Tatranská Lomnica, Slovakia
History and present
The first hotel on the local slopes appeared in 1872, when Tatranská Lomnica had a reputation as a climatic resort. It was from this moment that its formation began. At first, there was not even a cable car here, but over time, the winter tourist center began to develop rapidly and soon comfortable guest houses appeared here, which later turned into hotels and cottages, lifts, as well as cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues. They formed a modern, quite nice appearance for this ski complex.

By booking a ski tour to Tatranská Lomnica, you will become the happy owner of a vacation that satisfies the requests of the most demanding tourists. Travelers who go on vacation with the whole friendly family will be especially pleased. After all, it is easy to find a hobby for any level of skiing – from a beginner to a ski slalom pro. In Lomnický Sidl (the center of Tatranská Lomnica) there are “black slopes” – this is a place for skiing super professionals who love the speed of descent and are confident in their highest skill. There is nothing for the average person to do there. Separate slopes are equipped for snowboarders. Tobogganing and sledding are also in high esteem for tourists on vacation. Charming views will open up to you from the height of Lomnický Shield to the relief panorama of the High and Low Tatras mountains (the second highest peak in Slovakia).
Climate
The weather conditions at the resort are absolutely optimal for skiing. The average air temperature from December to February is slightly above zero, with a lot of snow and no wind. The thickness of the snow cover is maintained at 2 meters, which allows skiers to feel completely safe and enjoy skiing. The ski season here begins in December and ends in April, although in the highest areas, where snow lies for a long time, you can sometimes ski until mid-May.

How to get there
The international airport is a 20-minute bus ride away, in the immediate vicinity of the city of Poprad. If you wish, you can always use taxi services or rent a car to be able to independently explore the beauty of this mountainous region.

Sights and entertainment
You can diversify your skiing at the Tatranská Lomnica resort by visiting the sights in the village and its numerous districts or by riding the Tatra train, which is famous throughout the region. If you have already had enough, and your vacation is still going on, we offer you to visit all kinds of castles, caves and historical buildings that will surprise and make the most demanding client come back here. In addition, an excursion to the Tatra National Park Museum will bring pleasure. What is worth visiting is the “Ghost Castle” or the medieval Spiš Castle. Or the Belianska Cave – the pinnacle of nature’s art, like a fairy-tale journey: the halls here are decorated with natural stalactites and stalagmites with special musical and acoustic accompaniment, creating the feeling of being in a hypnotic dungeon. For lovers of water procedures, an excursion to “Tatralandia” (aquapark) is available. It is from here that you can embark on many special routes designed for travelers visiting mountain lakes and waterfalls.

A trip to the Old Smokovec, with its old wooden buildings of the 19th century, and if you visit the neighboring Gorski Smokovec, you can see the Tatra Gallery there. As sports entertainment on the territory of the ski complex, guests are offered swimming pools, saunas, gyms, indoor tennis courts and a wonderful ice rink. Also, you can diversify your stay at the resort by visiting the local cinema or cultural center, walking around the shops or tasting dishes in local restaurants. For lovers of fun in the dark, the doors of discos and night bars are hospitably open.

Cuisine
In the resort’s numerous culinary establishments located at different heights, visitors can taste a wide variety of dishes and drinks for every taste, including national culinary masterpieces.
It is worth considering that most dishes in the local cuisine are hearty and very fatty. For example, bravčová masť a oškvarky, one of the most traditional and oldest dishes in Tatranská Lomnica, is lard, which is melted with onion, garlic, grated apple, milk and many spices. Lard with cracklings is really tasty, but it is unlikely to be called a diet dish. It is worth trying ostiepok – a very pleasant-tasting smoked sheep cheese with a characteristic pattern on the sides of an elliptical or spindle-shaped shape. This type of cheese is used in the preparation of vyprazany syr.

Shopping
A wide range of different goods and souvenirs are on display in the stalls and shops.
You can buy sneakers, T-shirts, sweaters, ski jackets and pants, ski pants and sleeping bags at any time – in short, everything you need for a comfortable stay – in the New Shop & Rent Tatranská Lomnica store. Toys, souvenirs, and soft drinks are sold here, so if you don’t want to go around the city in search of gifts, you can buy everything you need here.

Tatranská Lomnica, although not among the most prominent ski resorts in Central Europe, has a number of advantages, one of which is very reasonable prices, both for accommodation and for skiing. In addition, the infrastructure is well developed here, a wonderful cozy atmosphere has been created and excellent trails have been laid that meet the needs of most vacationers. All this contributes to the popularity of the resort and makes it an attractive object for lovers of winter entertainment.
