The Peio Valley is located in the very west of the Val di Sole, framing the southern slopes of the Ortles mountain range. The forests of the Stelvio National Park, the largest in the Italian Alps, stretch around it.
Peio is better known as a spa resort than a ski resort. This is a quiet, cozy and comfortable place where it will be pleasant to relax for couples in love, families with small children, and respectable people of age. The ski infrastructure in Peio is only developing, but already here you can successfully combine active recreation on the slopes with a relaxing holiday in a spa.
The settlement of Peio is one of the highest in Trentino. It was formed in ancient times and to this day has preserved many medieval monuments. Peio Terme (also known as Peio Fonti) is located at an altitude of 1400 meters and has been known as a thermal resort for centuries. Peio Paese is located a little further from the ski slopes, stands at an altitude of 1584 meters and is famous for the church of Saints George and Lazarus, built in the 15th century.
Peio is one of the most modest ski resorts in the Dolomites. People come here not so much to ski, but to relax in one of the numerous spa centers, famous for the local mineral water. Peio has only 13 kilometers of ski slopes and 6 lifts. True, the difference in altitude of 1000 meters – from 1400 to 2400 meters – is quite large, and there are slopes for every taste: both blue and red, and even one black. The latter is a special freerider trail, Free Ride delle Gole, 2,250 meters long, running entirely on virgin land.

Peio, as well as the resorts of Passo del Tonale and Folgarida-Marilleva are located in the 42 km long Val di Sole valley. They are all part of the Skirama Dolomiti Adamello Brenta ski area, which is covered by a single ski pass.
The resort of Peio is located in the Stelvio National Park, which stretches along the southern slopes of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range in the Rhaetian Alps.
The ski resort is located at the foot of Monte Vioz at an altitude of 1,561 m above sea level. This settlement is the highest in the Trentino region. Peio is also known as the oldest resort in the region. Treatment with the water of the local thermal springs has been carried out since 1650.

Currently, Peio’s hotels, apartments and campsites can accommodate about 15,000 people at a time.
Peio Resort Trails
The Peio ski area has 12 trails with a total length of 16 km. 4 of them are blue, 6 are medium and 2 are difficult. They are served by 6 lifts. The highest point of the ski area is 2400 m, the lowest is 1400 m. The difference in altitude is 1000 m.
The ski trails are laid on the slope of Monte Viòz, 3645 meters high. The lowest point of the resort is the village of Peio Terme, located at an altitude of 1400 meters. Thus, the difference in altitude in the ski area is over 2000 meters.
The Peio resort is great for students. It can also be recommended for families with children: experienced skiers will spend time on all the “red” and “black” slopes available at the resort, while beginners will be able to master alpine skiing and snowboarding on the “blue” slopes. The slopes in Pejo are wide and flat, which makes skiing very comfortable.

The new Pejo 3000 gondola lifts athletes and tourists to the top of the mountain. Thanks to this lift, it was possible to extend the “red” Val della Mite slope, which runs along the ridge itself against the backdrop of breathtaking landscapes. The total length of the “red” descent from the very top to the bottom station exceeds 5 kilometers.
At the Peio ski resort, you won’t need to be well-versed in the terrain and it will be difficult to agree on a meeting point. If you get lost on the slopes, all the trails and lifts will lead to one area in Peio Terme.
In addition to the prepared trails, Peio has slopes suitable for off-piste skiing. Including the only “black” trail Free Ride delle Gole, 2250 meters long with a height difference of 600 meters, runs through virgin land. What is interesting – in Peio there is an easy, “blue” trail for freeride – but it descends to the Peio-Paese area, from where it is impossible to go up the mountains again by lift, you will have to return to Peio Terme by bus or taxi.

At the very top of the mountain, at an altitude of 3535 meters, there is the Rifugio Vioz restaurant, where you can have a snack during a skiing day or have an excellent dinner with traditional cuisine. Nearby is the tiny chapel of St. Bernard, built in 1948 and is the largest high-altitude in Europe.
In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, in the Peio resort in winter you can hike along paved paths, snowshoe on virgin land, skate, and also take excursions to the Stelvio National Park – the largest in the Italian Alps.
Despite its modest performance, the Peyo ski resort is nevertheless included in the large Skirama ski area. With the general ski pass Super Skirama Dolomiti, you can diversify your skiing vacation at the nearby resorts of Folgarida – Marilleva, Tonale – Ponte di Legno, Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo, Andala – Fai della Paganella, Monte Bondone and Folgaria – Lavarone. You will have to go to all of them by bus or car, but since all together they offer almost 400 kilometers of slopes, the offer is popular with vacationers.

Entertainment and attractions of the Pejo resort
In the town of Centro Fondo Cogolo, located at the foot of the Ortles-Cevedale massif at an altitude of 1170 m above sea level, 5 circular trails with a total length of 15 km have been laid for cross-country skiers using skate equipment. While following the route, you can admire the rare beauty of untouched nature, including waterfalls, and also see the ancient church of Pegaia.

The peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale mountains, covered with glaciers, are an ideal place for ski mountaineering. Walks through the Stelvio National Park will give you a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the magnificent Alpine nature.
On the territory of the Peio resort there is a large snow park “Bianco Neve”, where children and adults can go sledding, tubing and ice skating.

Guests of the Peyo resort can visit indoor pools and an ice palace, go sledding or horseback riding.
Peyo Thermal Resort
In the 16th century, sources of mineral waters rich in iron, sodium bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium, carbon dioxide and other chemical elements and compounds were discovered in Peyo.
Around the town of Peyo there are several other small villages of the Peyo Valley. Almost all of them are known as balneological resorts. Ferrous thermal springs were discovered in these parts since 1650, and since then the valley has been developing as a popular spa resort for Italians.
Currently, there are two spa centers operating in the region. One of them, Terme di Peio, is located in the center of the resort. It specializes in the treatment and prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive and excretory systems.
The mineral waters of Peio help people suffering from rheumatic and dermatological diseases and restore joint functionality.
The treatment uses waters that differ in chemical composition from three sources with a temperature of 7-8ºС. Clients of the Terme di Peio spa center have the opportunity to visit the swimming pool, saunas, a fitness center and a beauty center, which offers programs aimed at getting rid of stress and excess weight.

The Fonte Alpina water with a low mineral content, the Fonte Antica – a spring rich in iron, as well as the Nuova Fonte water containing carbon dioxide, provide the possibility of treating respiratory diseases, strengthening the musculoskeletal system, preventing rheumatism, and have a beneficial effect on the treatment of skin diseases. You can book treatments not only in private spas in expensive hotels, but also in the public complex The Health Center, where everyone has access to fitness centers, an indoor pool, hot tubs and a treatment room.

Next to the Val di Peio valley lies the Val di Rabbi valley, where the Terme di Rabbi spa center is located. The waters of the local springs are rich in carbon dioxide, iron and salts. They are used to treat rheumatism, diseases of the respiratory, digestive and circulatory systems, recovery in the post-traumatic period, as well as for aesthetic procedures.
