Grindelwald is located in the very center of Switzerland, at the foot of the famous mountain peaks of Aigen (3970 m), Mönch (4099 m) and Jungfrau (4158 m), which create a unique panorama in beauty.

Grindelwald, located at an altitude of 1034 m, is called the “glacier village”: there is no other place in Central Europe where they come so close to the valley and are so accessible to tourists. The mysterious Blue Ice Grotto and the exotic glacial gorge attract travelers from all over the world with their mysterious beauty. The Jungfrau ski region also includes the resorts of Interlaken, Wengen and Mürren.

At the same time, Grindelwald itself is a quiet, contented place, aimed at a relaxed audience who are not going to spend money on vacation. You shouldn’t go to Grindelwald for luxury. But it is worth it for high-quality service, excellent gastronomy, clean air, amazing nature, views of the Monk, Eiger and Jungfrau, as well as authentic Swiss entertainment such as sledding.

Today, Grindelwald is a high-quality Swiss ski resort with state-of-the-art infrastructure. It is in no way inferior to its famous competitors, the expensive and prestigious Zermatt and St. Moritz, with a huge number of slopes, and, like them, is a member of the elite club “Best of the Alps”. Grindelwald has all the conditions not only for winter sports enthusiasts, but also for non-skiing tourists. A variety of hotels, many restaurants and shops, spa centers and entertainment for every taste attract travelers of all ages and interests.

But the Swiss resort would not have such fame if it were not for its picturesque landscapes. Precipitous cliffs, glaciers, majestic mountains, miniature houses that seem to have come out of an artist’s painting and excite the imagination with their ideal forms. To be convinced of this, just look at the photo of Grindelwald. It is not surprising that the object has long ceased to need advertising and annually receives thousands of tourists on its territory. Mount Jungfrau in the commune of Grindelwald

Slopes and lifts

The Grindelwald resort area is home to some of the lowest mountains in the Swiss Alps. The Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are all peaks that are either slightly lower or higher than four kilometres above sea level. The Jungfrau region, which has 213 km of slopes of varying difficulty, has 3 skiing sectors. The largest area, which unites Grindelwald and Wengen, is located on the slopes of the Mannlichen (2230 m) – Kleine Scheidegg (2061 m) mountain range. There are more than 110 km of slopes and 19 lifts. From Grindelwald you can go up by mountain railway train (which takes 40 minutes) or by long 4-seater gondola (there are often queues for it). At the top there is a large selection of wide slopes with gentle gradients, suitable for skiers with intermediate experience. From the Kleine Scheidegg pass they can easily descend to Wengen (1274 m); you can return to the ski area by train or by 80-seater funicular.

For advanced skiers in the upper part of the area there are several steep descents from the Eigergletscher (2320 m), one of which has the telling name Oh God. For beginners – several easy tracks in the Kleine Scheidegg area; in Grindelwald they can go down a long “blue” track that runs parallel to the railway.

On the opposite slopes of the valley is the First ski area. A 6-seater gondola lift takes you there from Grindelwald, and at the top there are several chairlifts and towbars. The First slopes are very sunny, with a pleasant relief; there are about 50 km of medium difficulty trails, many of which are suitable for beginners.

It starts at the First Peak, and reaches six kilometers in length, during which the skier descends the slope by one thousand one hundred and eighteen meters, sometimes accelerating to enormous speeds.

Inferno Trail

The Inferno Trail, which descends from the top of the Schilthorn to Lauterbrunnen, is one of the longest (15 km) trails in Switzerland. The oldest school is the Swiss Ski & Snowboard School Kleine Scheidegg. It has been teaching downhill skiing since 1935. And the Swiss Ski and Snowboard School Grindelwald offers special family days.

If parents send two children at once, a 2% discount is provided, and starting from the third child – 5%. For children from 6 years old, full-day training from Monday to Friday will cost 370 CHF.
