The Zakopane ski resort is the highest resort in Poland.
The resort got its name from the city of the same name Zakopane, which is located in the valley of the Tatra Mountains at altitudes from 727 to 1150 meters and 110 km south of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Krakow.
Location of the resort
On one side, the city is surrounded by the Gubałówka mountain range, and on the other side are the Tatra Mountains.
And although the highest peaks of the Tatra Mountains are located in the Zakopane area, the altitude from 1 km 200 m to 1 km 987 m is quite enough to organize a decent ski resort of the European level here.
I would like to note that the category of skiers who like to go to the Alps, in particular to visit the famous ski resorts of Switzerland or Austria, can find a good alternative here, since the Tatra Mountains are in many ways similar to the Alps, except that the scale is smaller, but the prices here are an order of magnitude lower, and it is closer. But first things first.
Cultural center
It is also worth noting that Zakopane, a kind of cultural center of the southern region of Poland, has been constantly bustling with cultural life here for more than 100 years, which you can partially immerse yourself in.
But let’s still talk about Zakopane as a ski resort.
Number of routes, tracks, lifts in the skiing region
The skiing region is divided into 3 main zones – Kasprowy Wierch, Nosal, Gubalowka.
General characteristics of the skiing region:
The highest point is 1 km 987 m (Mount Kasprowy Wierch);
The difference in altitude is about 950 m;
The total length of routes (tracks) is about 30 km;
Lifts are twenty;
The length of the cross-country ski trails is about 50 km.
Kasprowy Wierch Ski Area
The highest point is 1 km 957 m. There is a weather station higher up at an altitude of 1 km 987 m. Very crowded, but at the same time the best place in Poland for downhill skiing.
The longest slope in Poland is equipped here, the length of which is 4 km 295 meters. In total, 5 routes are equipped here.
Two chairlifts and one passenger-car lift lead to the top of the mountain.
The passenger-car lift leads to the very top of Kasprowy Wierch. It starts from Kuznice and is divided into two parts.
The first part will take you to a height of 1 km 354 m, the second part to 1 km 959 m.
Very similar to the Miskhor – Ai-Petri cable car, which is located in Crimea, but a little more modern.
The difference between the lower and upper points is 930 meters.
Nosal Ski Area
The highest point is 1 km 206 meters. There are 9 routes here, which are considered one of the best in terms of preparedness not only in Zakopane, but also in Poland.
In terms of infrastructure development, everything is excellent here.
Hotels, parking lots, rental points, cafes and restaurants, everything is nearby.
The tracks here are small, and the height difference is not significant – 245 m., but they are well prepared, some of the routes are illuminated.
There is a 650 m long slalom route, which is the best in Poland.
The most difficult routes start at the top of the mountain, and beginners will find the routes in the lower part of the resort ideal. The complex is served by a single-seat chairlift and 9 tow lifts, the prices for which depend on the time of day.
Gubalowka ski area
The highest point of this ski area is 1 km 120 m. There are several large ski slopes here. The longest route is 1 km 338 m.
Blue slopes – 1;
Red – 2;
Black – 1;
For cross-country skiing – 1 (in the forest nearby).
The ski area is equipped only with tow lifts, with the exception of one funicular.
The popularity of the Gubalowka ski area is also due to the fact that you can reach the top of the mountain by funicular directly from the center of Zakopane.
The height difference is 300 meters.
At the top, there is a special observation deck, which rises 300 m above the city and offers a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding mountains.
For vacationers with children, attractive discounts are available for using the funicular and lifts. Thrifty tourists are recommended to buy a day pass, which gives the right to free use of the funicular and several lifts of their choice and costs about 70 PLN.
In addition to the main skiing areas, there are several ski complexes on the territory of the resort, each of which has its own characteristics and advantages.
The northern and southern slopes of the mountain Antalówka are occupied by the complex of the same name, it is particularly popular with tourists who have chosen one of the hotels in the center of Zakopane for accommodation. The slopes here are gentle, the height difference is from 35 to 40 meters, so the complex is recommended for beginners. For the convenience of vacationers, there is a network of attractive cafes, tourists are served by two ski lifts for amateurs, a 10-lift pass will cost customers about PLN 10.
Another optimal center that is perfect for beginners is Koziniec, vacationers are served here by three tow lifts, one of which is designed specifically for beginners. Among the advantages of the complex is its close location to the city center, as well as a developed infrastructure, which includes equipment rental points, a ski school and a cafe. Guests of this complex need to pay about PLN 10 for a 12-lift pass.
One of the most picturesque complexes is rightly considered to be Kalatuwki. Back in the early 20th century, winter sports competitions were held here, and today the ski complex is increasingly chosen by professional athletes for recreation. The slopes here are quite difficult, and therefore will not be the best place for beginners. On the territory of the complex there is a famous hotel and restaurant, which can be visited by absolutely everyone. The guests of the complex are served by 2 tow lifts.
Beginners and those vacationing with children should pay attention to the Budzowski Wierch ski resort. The slopes here are gentle, there are three tow lifts on the territory of the complex, and all of them are designed for beginners. Skiers have access to the services of professional instructors, and for the convenience of vacationers there is a network of popular cafes. Budget tourists will also like the complex, a ski pass for 10-15 climbs will cost them no more than 10 PLN.
If you are looking for a quiet place for a winter vacation, then the ski resort of Zakopane is not for you.
There are always a lot of people here, as not only Poles, but also Russians, Germans, tourists from neighboring countries, in particular from Ukraine and Slovakia, come here to relax.
The resort constantly hosts winter sports competitions, there is an ice skating rink, many ski jumps, a swimming pool that operates 12 months a year and is filled with geothermal healing waters.

Zakopane is a tourist and cultural center of the southern region of Poland, so it would be wrong to say that there will be any problems with accommodation here.
The city can accommodate about 60 thousand tourists at one time due to the large number of hotels, cottage towns, boarding houses, and the private sector.

For gourmets: restaurants and cafes in Zakopane
Polish cuisine has its own traditions and echoes Slavic and Western European cuisine in the composition of dishes and seasonings. Here guests are offered a wide variety of meat dishes, rich soups and delicious pastries. Portions are usually generous, and the food itself is hearty and quite heavy. Poles love soups, and here you can try a wide variety of their types. The most popular are: kapusnyak based on meat broth and cabbage; botvinka, or borscht; žurek, or zurek – a very specific soup, which is prepared on bread sourdough with the addition of various smoked products, eggs, sour cream and herbs. This soup has a sour taste and is often served in a bread plate. Polish borscht is also worth a visit. It is usually served with small dumplings filled with mushrooms, beans or meat.
Fish dishes are also popular here. The fish offered is mainly river fish: pike, zander, carp. Be sure to order baked or fried fish, carp with a special Polish sauce of egg and herbs and, of course, try the fragrant hunter’s ear. Try Polish dumplings, or as they are called here – pies with an emphasis on the second syllable. They are prepared with a variety of fillings: meat, cabbage or potato, or sweet with berries and fruits, with cheese.
It is also worth paying tribute to local pastries. Unsweetened casseroles are prepared in Zakopane – something like Russian pies, only elongated in shape with a filling of cheese, onions and mushrooms. As a dessert, you will be offered a roll of shortcrust pastry with a filling of nuts and sugar, mazurek – a traditional Polish cake, as well as a variety of cakes, cookies, gingerbread and jams. Almost any cafe will recommend pancakes with sweet filling, apple pie or strudel with apples or cherries.
From national dishes, we recommend trying bigos. This is a cabbage soup with several types of meat, sausages and mushrooms. Be sure to order smalt – melted lard with onions, garlic and herbs. It is spread on bread and often served with pickles. You must order knedlyki – large dumplings made of potato dough with a plum filling. They are boiled until cooked in boiling water and served with sour cream or cream.
Bigos
If you prefer meat, be sure to visit the tavern. Як правило, в закладах з такою назвою пропонують найрізноманітніші м’ясні страви: свинячу рульку, домашні ковбаси, які готують тут же на відкритому вогні, соковиті і пряні шашлики. Традиційно в якості гарніру подають капусту, картоплю і різні салати зі свіжих овочів. Причому гарнір замовляти не треба, він вже включений до складу страви. Також до м’яса неодмінно запропонують кілька соусів.
Алкоголь тут пропонують в основному міцний. У ресторанах і магазинах ви знайдете різні настоянки і наливки, польську горілку. Як сувенір неодмінно купіть «Зубрівку» – це найпопулярніша горілка, настояна на траві з аналогічною назвою. Польське пиво стане відмінним супроводом для м’ясних страв. Пиво тут готують чудове, за якістю воно нітрохи не гірше, ніж чеське або німецьке. До речі, пиво тут часто подають з малиновим сиропом, обов’язково спробуйте таке поєднання. Вина, звичайно, теж є в меню ресторанів, але більша їх частина імпортного виробництва, а місцеві не відрізняються хорошими смаковими якостями.
На вулицях Закопане можна перекусити вафлями з джемом або купити смажений сир з журавлинним соусом. У самому центрі міста гостям пропонують порося, засмажене цілком. Взимку така ситна і гаряча їжа доведеться дуже до речі. Рекомендуємо купити польські сири. Особливо багато їх пропонують на невеликих ярмарках, які часто влаштовують у вихідні дні. Тут ви зможете спробувати і вибрати кілька сортів для себе або в якості подарунка. Найчастіше можна зустріти овечі і козячі сири.
Практично у всіх закладах гостям пропонують страви як бюджетні, так і дорогі. Радимо зайти в ресторанчик Bakowo Zalylina, щоб спробувати національну гуральську кухню. Тут подають підігріте вино з прянощами і тепле пиво з сиропом, а також особливий чай, в який додають лимон і горілку. Є кілька закладів, де харчування організовано за принципом шведського столу. В цілому в ресторанах цілком доступні ціни. У кафе-барі Zakopanski вам запропонують різноманітні коктейлі, алкогольні і неалкогольні, каву і смачні десерти. Основні страви тут також є. Це кафе знаходиться на вулиці Крупувки та вважається одним з кращих в місті.
Для тих, хто зупинився в апартаментах, але не хоче готувати, в Закопане працює «Zbojeckie jadlo». Це буфет, де можна купити буквально будь-яку страву на вагу. Щоб не тільки поїсти, а й послухати живу музику, варто відправитися в ресторан Kolorowa. Тут пропонують національні страви і душевну атмосферу. Родзинкою інтер’єру є камін в обідньому залі. Активний відпочинок, розваги та нічне життя
Самим жвавим і цікавим місцем у місті є вулиця Крупувки (Krupowki Street) – центральна вулиця Закопане. Саме сюди відправляються на пошуки розваг шанувальники активного відпочинку, мальовнича вулиця являє собою безперервну низку популярних готелів, ресторанів, нічних клубів і магазинів. Саме тут можна виявити одну з головних міських визначних пам’яток – оригінальні торгові намети, в яких продають чудовий сир, популярні національні солодощі і цікаві сувеніри. Ця жвава і красива вулиця ніколи не пустує, більш цікавого місця для піших прогулянок в місті відшукати буде складно.
Курортне місто Закопане багато в чому орієнтоване на любителів активного відпочинку, а тому різноманіття спортивних і розважальних комплексів тут просто величезна. Нещодавно на курорті відбулося відкриття аквапарку (Aqua park Zakopane), тому тепер урізноманітнити дозвілля відпочиваючі можуть не тільки лижними прогулянками, а й водними розвагами. До послуг відвідувачів аквапарку 3 величезних басейни, а також 6 джакузі і безліч барвистих гірок. Знайдуться в аквапарку відповідні атракціони і для шанувальників гострих відчуттів, а також відмінний басейн з ігровою зоною для найменших відвідувачів. Крім того, в аквапарку представлено кілька видів сауни і солярій, відповідне місце для відпочинку знайдуть абсолютно всі.
Найпопулярнішим пішохідним маршрутом залишається підйом на гору Губалувка (Gubałówka). Її вершина є найбільш доступною, для підйому зовсім не обов’язкова наявність спеціальних навичок. Тут любителів гострих відчуттів теж чекає приємний сюрприз, для них обладнаний відмінний атракціон, який за принципом дій трохи нагадує класичні «російські гірки». Тим, хто віддає перевагу більш спокійному відпочинку, представиться можливість відвідати обладнані на вершині оглядові майданчики, з яких відкривається шикарний панорамний вид.
Ще один прекрасний спосіб оцінити панораму околиць – покататися на повітряному трамваї Kasprowy Wierch Tram. Його маршрут пролягає по дуже мальовничих місцях, підйом на вершину гори в мініатюрній оглядовій кабіні подарує масу вражень всій сім’ї. Мандрівникам, які планують відвідати Закопане з маленькими дітьми, обов’язково варто відвідати Музей ведмедика Тедді (Teddy Bear Museum). Класичний музей він нагадує лише віддалено, це дуже цікава галерея, в якій представлена багата колекція м’яких іграшок. Екскурсія по визначних пам’ятках культури Закопане.
В Закопане є і архітектурні, і історичні пам’ятки, а також кілька дуже цікавих музеїв. Мабуть, одним з найбільш незвичайних культурних закладів є Музей Кароля Шиманського (Karol Szymanowski Museum), який багатьом мандрівникам відомий як вілла Атма (Villa Atma). Місцем його розміщення став дуже красивий дерев’яний будинок, оточений густими заростями дерев, ця мальовнича вілла належала всесвітньо відомому композитору. У ній повністю збережена обстановка минулих років, відвідувачі музею можуть побачити колекцію старовинних меблів і творів мистецтва, а також особисті речі композитора і його улюблене піаніно. Всім гостям курорту обов’язково варто відвідати Пам’ятний будинок Вроніслава Чеха (Vronislav Cech Memorial house), саме в ньому жив зі своєю сім’єю всесвітньо відомий дослідник і лижник. Сьогодні гарна дерев’яна вілла теж переобладнана в музей. Серед його безцінних експонатів нагороди Вроніслава Чеха і його спорядження, а також колекція цікавих фотографій і листівок.
Заслуговує на увагу гостей курорту і Музей Яна Каспровича (Jan Kasprowicz Museum) – відомого польського поета, який народився в простій селянській родині і добився величезних успіхів. У безпосередній близькості від Закопане, в селі Недзіце (Niedzica), знаходиться дуже цікава історична пам’ятка – замок Дунаєць (Dunajec castle). Це унікальний пам’ятник в стилі ренесанс, який був побудований ще в 14 столітті і з моменту заснування неодноразово перебудовувався. Дунаєць вважається одним з найкрасивіших замків Польщі, з ним пов’язано безліч цікавих і таємничих історій.
Продовжуючи знайомство з історією міста, обов’язково варто відвідати Музей Корнелія Макушинського (Museum Cornelia Makushinsky). Вибір цікавих для відвідування природних пам’яток у гостей Закопане і зовсім величезний, великою популярністю у відпочиваючих користується підйом на гору Губалувка (Gubałówka).

Зручно добиратися двома маршрутами, через Краків і через Словацьке місто Попрад (аеропорт).
