Alta Badia is located in the northern part of Italy and is part of the province of Bolzano-Bozen. It is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Sella massif. It consists of several villages with a developed tourist infrastructure and their own skiing areas, connected by a cable car. High quality snow, a wide selection of trails of varying difficulty levels, good slope relief and excellent conditions for practicing all kinds of winter sports are characteristic features of Alta Badia.

The minimum height of the skiing areas is 1400 meters, and the height difference reaches almost one and a half kilometers. The resort areas have a number of interesting attractions, and in their vicinity there are historical sites that are included in the program of excursion routes. The nature of this region is extremely beautiful, and you can admire the surrounding landscapes of the Dolomites from any height. Alta Badia is also one of the areas whose slopes are part of the famous “around the world” Sella Ronda.

Skiing areas
The Corvara skiing area is designed mainly for the intermediate level. Comfortable blue and red slopes are ideal for beginners and families with children, but are of little interest to advanced skiers and snowboarders. In total, Corvara has about 38 slopes with a total length of 40 km.
Neighboring Colfosco, located slightly higher at the foot of the Sella massif and Mount Sassonger, is the last settlement before the ski jump to the pass, beyond which the ski area of Val Gardena begins.
Colfosco is surrounded by forest and not the most difficult sunny slopes, which are part of the Sella Ronda. Skiing in many hotels from the doorstep. This is definitely an ideal place for families with children and for beginners thanks to the large number of blue slopes right next to the village.

Alta Badia is located in South Tyrol in the Dolomites at the corner of the Sella massif, around which the famous Sella Ronda circular route runs, connected by a system of lifts.
The Alta Badia ski area lies deep in the Val Badia, which stretches fifty kilometers south of the large Pusteria valley. In La Villa (+1433) the road forks: to the left – to San Cassiano (1537), to the right – to Corvara (1568) and Colfosco (+1645). These four resorts, with their slopes, lifts and pistes, make up Alta Badia.
San Cassiano, Pedraces and La Villa are a little off the beaten track, formed by the Sella Rondo, but connected to it by a network of pistes and lifts. These villages have a quiet life, and the local slopes are not very crowded.

Alta Badia Ski Resort, Italy
Alta Badia is dominated by medium-difficulty pistes. For real “pros” of real interest are only the routes in the area of the Pizla Lla station and the Col Prodat – Edelweiss descent, which is not particularly long, but allows you to feel a considerable amount of adrenaline in the blood. The slopes at an altitude of 1400 meters are designed for beginners and intermediate skiers. Due to the low humidity, the snow in this region is extremely loose, and skiing on an even and soft surface is a pleasure.

In the Ciampai snow park, fans of boardcross and snowboarding usually gather. Perfectly equipped areas for skiing “snowboarders” are located in the towns of Santa Croce, Stella Alpina and Parchi Naturali. The most sophisticated route for skiers in Alta Badia is the Giro della Grande Guerra, when confident skiers are invited to make an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Dolomites, to the places of battles during the First World War. The route runs through several ski areas at once, so it is full of dizzying climbs and breathtaking descents. During the route, skiers have to move both on lifts and on a tourist bus, although most of the route runs through the snow-covered slopes of the Dolomites. In terms of the brightness of impressions and the rapidity of changing landscapes, the Giro della Grande Guerra can give odds even to the incomparable Sella Ronda circumnavigation.

The slopes in the area of the village of San Cassiano, at an altitude of just over one and a half thousand meters, are very popular among skiers who come to Alta Badia. The village is surrounded on all sides by high cliffs and is a piece of civilization hidden from the rest of the world, carefully covered with snow and well known to all lovers of a quiet and carefree vacation. From here it is quite easy to get to such skiing areas as La Ville, Pedrasesa, Corvara or Colfosco by lift. All resorts of the ski complex have a wide selection of hotels and have a developed infrastructure. In the local restaurants, guests are invited to appreciate the quality of traditional Italian cuisine and try exquisite dishes prepared by local chefs. In addition, in Alta Badia you can have fun at discos, skate under the light of electric lights, swim in the pool or play sports, as most hotels in the ski resort provide the widest range of services in each of these areas.

Those ski fans who do not have enough skiing that Alta Badia offers have the opportunity to significantly increase the range for their skiing creativity by purchasing a single “ski pass” that includes the entire Sella Ronda region. Thus, its owner will receive several hundred kilometers of snowy slopes and trails of varying degrees of difficulty in the future. In addition, the owner of the “ski pass” has the right to free use of all lifts within the region and travel on a tourist bus in any direction in the Dolomites.

Dolomiti Superski is the world’s largest ski alliance. Twelve ski regions united by a common ski pass.
The ski area Alta Badia is a wide plateau between S. Cassian and Corvara. The maximum altitude is just over 2000 m. A coniferous forest grows along the edges. Several dozen “blue” and easy “red” trails with a total length of about 80 km have been laid, which are mainly served by chairlifts. The skiing is comfortable, ideal conditions for beginners and experienced skiers. Alta Badia has 80 km of prepared hiking trails, 40 km of trails for classic and skate cross-country skiing. Good opportunities for off-piste skiing and ski touring.

Among the famous sights of Alta Badia are the 15th-century church of Santa Croce, the Ladin Ciastel de Tor Museum, located in the ancient castle of Ciastel de Tor, the house dedicated to the first Ladin saint, Giuseppe Freinademetz, and the parish church of San Leonardo. In the village of Corvara there is a unique exhibition of paintings by the famous artist Raymond Massner. For lovers of antiquity, combined with magnificent mountain landscapes, an excursion to the city of Bolzano, which is located nearby and represents an important cultural heritage and invaluable historical heritage for the whole of Italy, is recommended. The large Bolzano Dolomites International Airport is also located there.

Today, Alta Badia enjoys a high reputation in Italy and most winter sports fans prefer to come here, to the north of the country, to enjoy pleasant and safe skiing, surrounded by the picturesque Dolomites. The winter season in the region lasts from late November to April, although in the summer season Alta Badia is also popular with a significant number of Italians and tourists from other countries who prefer these places to other Apennine resorts.
