Pinzolo is a commune located in northeastern Italy. It belongs to the administrative center of Trento. From Rome, the capital of Italy, Pinzolo is located at a distance of 624 km. The nearest large city is Verona, located 150 km from the village.

The village is located in the Dolomites, in the center of the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, at an altitude of 785 m above sea level. It is the largest town in the Val Rendena valley, which separates the Adamello and Brenta mountain ranges. There is only one mountain directly next to it. This is Doss de Sabion, 2100 m high. From its top, a magnificent view of the surroundings opens up and the neighboring resort of Madonna di Campiglio is clearly visible.

It is smaller in size than the Madonna di Campiglio ski resort, located fifteen minutes away, but the skiing area here is more spacious. At the same time, prices are cheaper, and the town itself is quieter and calmer.

There is another resort of Carisolo near the commune. They are separated from each other by the Fiume Sarcia di Campiglio river, and the settlements are connected by a bridge. That is why, walking through one settlement, you can imperceptibly find yourself in another.

Climate and weather

The Dolomites are interesting at any time of the year. When planning a trip, you need to keep in mind that the rain is heaviest in June and July: precipitation falls almost every day. However, this does not mean that it rains 24 hours a day: despite frequent showers, there are 24 sunny days in July. The least precipitation is in December, January and March: 3-4 days a month.

It is cold in the mountains at night even in summer, so you must definitely take warm clothes with you.

Features

This is a small but very cozy and comfortable resort, located in the shadow of the respectable and famous Madonna di Campiglio, from which it is separated by only 14 kilometers. A miniature charming provincial village with an area of less than seventy kilometers is surrounded on all sides by majestic snow-capped peaks with magnificent ski slopes of varying degrees of difficulty. One of the features of the local slopes is the almost complete absence of trees, so the descents from them are more comfortable and safe, although not so exciting. However, the search for difficulties is more likely the fate of professionals, and for intermediate skiers, for whom the ski complex is oriented, such conditions are simply not possible.

The maximum elevation difference in Pinzolo is 1,300 meters, with the lowest ski areas located at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. The resort is in no way inferior to its famous neighbor in terms of the quality of the slopes, but the lifts are mostly old and their speed is noticeably lower than in Madonna di Campiglio. The best way to compare two “mountain skis” with each other is to buy a single “ski pass” for the entire skiing region. This not only increases the space for maneuver, but also allows skiers to enjoy the beautiful views of the Alpine expanses from different points of the cable car that connects Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio “by air”.

Ski slopes

Those wishing to ski can choose from two types of slopes. The first type is the tracks laid near the village. Their total length is 26 km. You can also ski on a larger area: the Pinzolo-Campiglio Express lift has connected several ski resorts, which has increased the skiing area to 150 km.

Trails near the resort

The following indicators are characteristic of the ski trails laid on the mountain near the village:

  • Total length: 26 km;
  • Total number: 16;
  • Length of easy tracks (blue): 3 km;
  • Number of easy tracks (blue): 5 slopes;
  • Length of medium difficulty tracks (red): 20 km;
  • Number of medium difficulty tracks (red): 8 slopes; Length of difficult (black) tracks: 3 km;
  • Number of difficult (black) tracks: 3 descents;
  • Total number of lifts: 10 pcs.;
  • Number of chairlifts – 7 pcs.;
  • Altitude of the starting station: 800 m above sea level;
  • Altitude of the final station: 2100 m above sea level

The ski tracks are located on the slope of the Doss de Sabion mountain. You can get to the top by contacting the cable car operator Funivie Pinzolo S. Spa, located at Via Bolognini, 84. It is not far from the church of St. Vigilio, but closer to the center.

You can climb to the easy tracks by two lifts. The slopes are located in the upper skiing area, at an altitude of between 2100 and 1.5 thousand m. But they are short, so if the level of medium difficulty is not yet suitable, it may be uncomfortable. In this case, it is better to go to Madonna di Campiglio for skiing. The vast majority of ski slopes are light red, they are well suited to those who are good at skiing. Trees are very rare here, so going down is very convenient. The longest track is DoloMitica: its length from the top of the mountain to the bottom station located in the village is 5750 m, the height difference is 1248 m.

Black slopes are intended only for professionals. They are short, but the slopes are very steep.

Real “pros” do not spoil the local slopes with their attention. There is only one track for them, Competition. It is almost 1,100 meters long with a height difference of 300 meters. Far from sky-high indicators for experts. However, it is here that the international youth competitions for the “Mickey Mouse Prize” are held every year, which are considered one of the most prestigious at this level. Other routes are suitable for the “lighter” version of the medium-difficulty trails. The most common of them are Nera Folgardia, a little less than two kilometers long, and Piscia delle Goli, similar in mileage and height difference (about 600 meters). Training slopes are located in the immediate vicinity of the village and have all the parameters necessary for beginners to successfully master their first skills. For snowboarders, there is an excellent fan park with a half-pipe. From the top of Doss de Sabione, a fabulous view of the surrounding landscapes opens, including the ancient fortress of Cima Tosa and the elite resort of Madonna di Campiglio. Another positive feature of Pinzolo is its small population. There are not as many people here as in the resorts of the Skirama Dolomiti region adjacent to it, so there are never queues for the lifts, and skiing is pleasant and safe.
