The Malbun ski resort is located in the southeast of Liechtenstein, seventeen kilometers from the capital of the state of Vaduz, so you can get to it by bus. The resort is located at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level, at the bottom of the valley at the foot of the Saareserjoch and Nospitze mountains. The climate in the resort is mild, although the winters are quite cool.

How to get there

You can get here directly from the capital of Vaduz by bus, which is recognized as the cheapest mode of transport in the country. However, it should be remembered that the buses stop running quite early, so it is advisable to find out the routes and times in advance, and buy tickets in advance.

Skiing area

The Malbun ski area is cozy and calm. The height difference is about 400 meters. There are 18 well-equipped ski slopes on the slopes, the total length of which is 21 kilometers, the longest of which is 2 km, the slopes are served by seven lifts. The slopes are mainly characterized as easy or medium difficulty. There are also trails for cross-country skiing with a length of 37 kilometers.

The quality of the snow cover is carefully monitored on each track, and there is the necessary equipment to maintain the proper level of snow. The season here lasts on average from December to April.

Skiers are taken to the summits by modern lifts. To the delight of snowboarders, there is a fun park with a half-pipe track in Malbun.

All Malbun trails are calm, quiet and easy to navigate, so they are popular with families with children. There is a tow bar at the very entrance to the village. Beginners and children mainly train on the flat track, but experienced people prefer to ride the Vaduzer Teli, climbing to the top using a cable car with double chairs. On the other side of the valley, a four-seater lift with the ingenious name Zarej goes up. It takes skiers to the Zarejzerjoch peak, from where more difficult and dangerous trails start. In general, the entire system of care and control is built as reliably as possible, so you should not worry about your own safety and health.

The Malbun resort is well-deservedly popular with both novice and expert skiers. For novice skiers, excellent conditions have been created: 2 ski schools are open and comfortable ski runs have been laid. Even if you have never seen alpine skis before, Malbun will put you on them in a few days. For those who have not yet mastered the technique of alpine skiing or snowboarding, the track that starts right at the entrance to the village is perfect. This is a flat and spacious track, where children and their parents ski. More experienced skiers prefer the slope on Vaduzer Teli, you can go up to the start here by cable car.

A four-seater lift will take skiers to the Zareizerjoch saddle. There is a mountain restaurant here, the only one in the ski area, and the terrace offers a fabulous view of the surrounding mountains. Just below the restaurant is the beginning of one of the “black” runs, a paradise for extreme sports enthusiasts. In total, the resort has eight “blue” runs, ten “red” runs and three “black” runs.

The Malbün resort itself, nestled at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, is an excellent tourist area. At every step you can find a comfortable hotel, restaurant or ice rink. Unlike the noisy resorts located near Switzerland, Malbün pleases with its prices and quiet, almost family atmosphere. You can have a snack and relax in a cozy mountain restaurant, where it is advisable to taste national dishes – baked apples and cheese in freshly prepared apple puree, foie gras and fondue with fresh fruit and nuts (a dish for athletes because of its nutritional value). The restaurant offers a picturesque panorama of the surrounding mountains – Tsimba (2642 meters high) and Scesaplana (2964 meters high). The only black run in this area starts right next to the mountain restaurant

Vögeli Alpenhotel Malbun 2-star hotel

Vögeli Alpenhotel Malbun is located in the center of the ski area Malbun, 12 km from Vaduz. This is Malbun’s oldest hotel and features an indoor pool.

The traditional Falknerei Galina offers direct access to the ski slopes and a balcony and sun terrace with panoramic mountain views. It is located 1,600 metres above sea level in the idyllic village of Malbun, Liechtenstein’s only ski resort. Free WiFi is available.

The à la carte restaurant serves traditional regional cuisine as well as Asian dishes, homemade pastries and cakes. A wide selection of vintage wines is also available.

Free private parking is available at the Falknerei Galina. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from a ski rental, a ski school, an ice rink and a toboggan run.

Hotel Hofbalzers 4 star hotel

Hotel Hofbalzers is located in the centre of Balzers in Liechtenstein, about 2 km from the Swiss border. It offers free WiFi, a steam bath, a fitness centre and rooms with satellite TV.
