1. Visa-free for a maximum of 45 days

As a German citizen, you do not need a visa to enter the country and for a stay of up to 45 days. Make sure, however, that you have a printout of your return flight (or bus) ticket with you. At least we had to show this upon entry. The 45-day visa-free stay is reset for each new entry, regardless of whether the previous entry was with or without a visa. There is no prescribed minimum period between the end of the visa-free stay and the last exit. (Source: Federal Foreign Office).

2. Electronic Vietnam Visa for 90 Days

If you are planning a longer trip, you can also apply for an e-visa online. This allows you to enter the country at certain airports and checkpoints and stay for up to 90 days. Single and multiple entries are possible. The e-visa fee is paid via an electronic payment portal, as prescribed by the immigration authorities. The fee is non-refundable if the application is rejected. Apply for an e-visa here.

  • Single entry $25
  • Multiple entry $50

3. Electronic visa for 90 days with an agency

If you are short on time and patience, you can also apply for your e-visa through an agency. After completing your information, you pay the fee, currently €54.95. You will then receive your visa by email a few days later. The advantage is that you save time, receive more service, and can use more common payment methods than on the official websites. You can also use the helpdesk around the clock if you have any further questions.

Conclusion on the visa for Vietnam

We recommend either visa-free entry if you don’t plan to stay in the country for longer than 45 days, or the e-visa for 90 days. You can either take care of this yourself or hire a certified travel agency to do it for you. Of course, you can also go to the embassy and apply for your Vietnam visa. It’s more convenient, of course, to apply for your Vietnam visa online.
