2. Iceland
Iceland should also be on your 2025 list, because this island is always a must. We were in Iceland for the first two weeks of September and drove around the island in a rental car. We were greeted by roaring waterfalls, mighty glaciers, rugged cliffs, black beaches, geothermal areas and geysers, impressive volcanoes, and countless breathtaking landscapes.
We camped there and got to know Iceland in a more adventurous way. Camping in Iceland is generally possible without any problems, but you do have to keep a few special considerations in mind. Depending on the time of year, driving in Iceland shouldn’t be underestimated, as roads can be closed, especially in winter.
Iceland completely blew us away, and we’ll definitely return one day. If you’re planning a trip to Iceland, we recommend at least 7 to 10 days for the south and southeast, and at least 14 days for a circumnavigation of the island. You can travel to Iceland all year round, as each season has its own special charm.

3. Austria
If you don’t necessarily want to fly or take a long-distance trip, we can also recommend a trip to Austria for 2025. We go to the mountains at least once or twice a year to hike and enjoy nature to the fullest. Austria offers countless beautiful spots with spectacular landscapes. But the cities of Vienna, Innsbruck, and Salzburg are also worth a visit.
Highly recommended is the Montafon, a nearly 39-kilometer-long Alpine valley stretching from Bludenz to the Bielerhöhe. The breathtaking nature of this region is truly unique. But the Hohe Tauern National Park in East Tyrol also impressed us with its majestic mountain peaks, glittering glaciers, roaring waterfalls, and crystal-clear lakes.

4. Chalkidiki
In early summer 2023, we traveled to Greece to take a closer look at the Chalkidiki region. While most vacationers tend to stay on Greek islands, we wanted to see what the region around Thessaloniki on the mainland has to offer. The region is known for its natural beauty, historical sites, and picturesque beaches. We were able to see this for ourselves.
On the map, Chalkidiki looks like a hand with three fingers, also known as the “Three Fingers.” These fingers represent the three main peninsulas of Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos. Each of the three peninsulas has its own unique landscape. Kassandra is known for its lively beaches and nightlife, Sithonia for its verdant forests and secluded bays. Athos is known as an autonomous monastic republic and is rich in Orthodox monasteries.

5. Finland (Lapland)
We visited Finland for the first time in winter, more precisely in the northern region of Lapland. Lapland offers one of the best opportunities to observe the fascinating Northern Lights. Lapland is also a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. From traditional activities like skiing and snowboarding to dog sledding, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile tours, and ice fishing, there are numerous ways to enjoy winter to the fullest.
And did you know that Santa Claus has his official residence in the Santa Claus Village near Rovaniemi in Lapland? The region is also home to some of the most fascinating ice and snow hotels in the world. Look forward to Lapland’s untouched nature, the peace and seclusion, and the many unique moments in Winter Wonderland.

Slovakia is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating countries in Europe. Nestled between Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria, Slovakia might seem overshadowed by its neighbors. But in fact, this country has nothing to hide – Slovakia rocks! How about a personalized tour next year?
During our tour through Slovakia, we experienced the country in all its diversity. The hospitality of the locals impressed us, the infrastructure proved to be excellent, and the nature literally took our breath away. Almost every day, we breathed in the pristine mountain air, enjoyed spectacular views, and immersed ourselves in the fascinating natural surroundings.

7. Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania
Why do we rarely read about these countries? A trip through the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania promises a tempting mix of history, culture, and breathtaking nature. From the well-preserved medieval cities to the expansive coastlines of the Baltic Sea, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania offer a fantastic variety of experiences. We’re really keen to take a road trip through these countries. Perhaps we’ll find a suitable time next year.
The Estonian landscape is characterized by untouched forests, numerous lakes, and a breathtaking coastline. Lahemaa National Park is a paradise for nature lovers. Latvia’s coast is characterized by fine sandy beaches and picturesque dunes. Gauja National Park offers impressive gorges and the opportunity to discover diverse flora and fauna. The Curonian Spit, shared by Lithuania and Russia, is a unique natural phenomenon with high shifting dunes and picturesque fishing villages.
8. Spain – Basque Country
Whenever we fly to Portugal, we fly over the Basque Country in Spain. Every time, I think to myself: Wow! We have to go there! The region offers a diverse landscape with picturesque beaches, green hills, mountains, and charming coastal towns. The Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and the Picos de Europa National Park are just two examples of the region’s incredible diversity.
The Basque Country’s diverse landscape offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, water sports, cycling, and birdwatching. Historic cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastián, and Vitoria-Gasteiz are rich in impressive architecture, from ancient churches to modern buildings. For us, this clearly calls for a new adventure!

Our top travel destinations 2025 – Worldwide
For many of us, it’s nice to travel a little further afield, which is why we’ve noted a few great long-distance travel destinations for 2025. Some are at the top of our list, others we’ve already visited ourselves. And the list in our heads is still endless and feels like it’s getting longer and longer.
We don’t have any long-distance trips planned for the coming year, but that can change quickly. We don’t plan the entire year and always reserve the freedom to be spontaneous. So let’s see what the travel year 2025 has in store for us.

1. Oman
Oman has been on my list for many years, and Marco can tell you how often I’ve pestered him about it. But somehow the timing never quite worked out. This year, the time had finally come, and we were able to embark on our long-awaited trip. We traveled across Oman for 17 days and got to know and love the many different facets of the country. Our tour is by far one of the most beautiful trips we have ever taken.
Oman surprised us with its shimmering golden sand dunes, imposing mountain peaks, and a coastline that nestles lovingly against the deep blue waters of the Arabian Sea. In hardly any other country have we seen so many different landscapes in such a short time and in such a small space. One moment we were trudging through the desert, the next we were driving through narrow rocky gorges and lush oasis towns.

2. Botswana
If you’ve been following us for a while, you certainly know that we have an incredible passion for animals, wilderness, and Africa. Last year (November 2022), we spent three weeks in Botswana and experienced unforgettable moments. The country is known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich wildlife. So, if you want to experience lions, giraffes, buffalo, rhinos, and other animals up close in the wild, you should travel to Botswana in 2025.
Equipped with a four-wheel drive vehicle and a roof tent, we drove across the country. By the end of this trip, we had clocked up over 4,500 kilometers. Incredible! We visited Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta, the vast salt pans of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, as well as the Khama Rhino Sanctuary and the popular Elephant Sands Lodge. The next trip will definitely come!

3. Bolivia
Marco and I have never been to South America. Why not? To be honest, I don’t have an answer. When we’ve decided to go on a long-distance trip, it’s usually to the Middle East or Africa. America isn’t really on our radar yet. That’s a shame, because we’re both incredibly keen to explore Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and all the other countries.
Bolivia, in particular, is buzzing around in my head. The country stretches from the Andes across the Altiplano highlands to the tropical lowlands of the Amazon rainforest. Not to be forgotten, of course, are the “Salar de Uyuni,” the largest salt lake in the world, or the world’s highest capital city, La Paz.

4. South Africa
We have published more articles about than any other country on our blog. South Africa is a very popular travel destination, and for good reason: the country’s diversity is hard to put into words. From endless beaches to vast savannahs to impressive mountains, South Africa offers an enormous variety of diverse landscapes.
The country is also famous for its breathtaking wildlife. National parks like Kruger National Park offer the opportunity to experience the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino) as well as many other animals in their natural habitat. We have traveled through almost all regions of the country and love every single one. ☞ Our big South Africa travel blog.

5. Moorea
For a few months now, I’ve had a very special travel destination on my list, one that’s more of a “once-in-a-lifetime adventure.” If I had to draw paradise, it would look like Moorea. Moorea is a paradisiacal island in the South Pacific and is politically part of French Polynesia. The island is located only about 17 kilometers northwest of Tahiti and is therefore quite easy to reach by ferry.
Moorea is known for its breathtaking and diverse landscape. High mountain peaks, lush valleys, crystal-clear lagoons, and stunning beaches create a backdrop that seems like something out of a dream. ☞ Check out this documentary: “Limitless – Discover the World” on Tahiti and Moorea.
6. Mongolia
Mongolia is undoubtedly one of our top travel destinations for 2025. This fascinating country impresses not only with its breathtaking landscapes, but also with its rich culture and the unique way of life of its nomads. Experience endless steppes, majestic mountain ranges, impressive deserts, and picturesque lakes that reflect the diversity of Mongolian nature. Visit traditional yurts, which serve as mobile dwellings for the nomads, and gain an authentic insight into their centuries-old way of life.
Mongolia is also home to a unique wildlife, including wild horses, wild donkeys, yaks, wolves, and snow leopards. Nature reserves such as the Gobi-Gurvan Saikhan National Park offer the opportunity to see these animals in their natural habitat. Mongolia is also ideal for adventurous activities such as trekking, horseback riding, stargazing in the Gobi Desert, and motorcycle tours through the steppes. Sounds like a great adventure, right? The country is definitely high on our imaginary list.
7. Big in Japan
Japan is also one of those very special travel destinations that has been on our list for ages. But we always said to ourselves: If we’re going to Japan, then make sure we have enough time. Since we’ve been so busy with work in recent years, we’ve pushed this travel destination further down the list. We probably won’t be visiting Japan this year (2025), but at the latest in 2025. Japan offers impressive natural diversity, from majestic mountains like Mount Fuji to picturesque coastlines. The four seasons are intensely experienced in Japan, such as the famous cherry blossoms in spring.
Japan is famous for its impressive traditional architecture, including the historic wooden buildings of Kyoto, ancient castles like Himeji, and well-preserved shrines. On the other hand, cities like Tokyo and Osaka impress with their futuristic architecture, cutting-edge technology, vibrant nightlife, and shopping. The courtesy and respect deeply rooted in Japanese culture make the travel experience particularly enjoyable. The hospitality of the people in Japan is said to be truly magnificent!
