BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO MOROCCO

The best time to travel to Morocco depends on what activities you plan to do and which regions you want to visit. Generally speaking, the best times to visit Morocco are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is mild and the landscapes are green and blooming.

In summer (June to August), it can get very hot in Morocco, especially in the desert regions, making it difficult to take long outdoor excursions. In winter (December to February), it can snow and get cold in the higher mountain regions, but it’s also a good time to go skiing in the Atlas Mountains.

ENTRY & VISA

You do not need a visa (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) to enter Morocco. You may stay in the country for up to 90 days for tourist purposes (only with proof of a return flight ticket). An extension is not possible unless you can present the immigration police with a complete application including proof of financial resources, a work contract in Morocco if applicable, and a justification for why a longer stay is necessary.

Upon entry, the authorities may ask you for proof of a hotel booking, a return flight confirmation, or sufficient financial resources for your stay.

SAFETY IN MOROCCO

Morocco is a relatively safe travel destination, but it is still important to inform yourself about the security situation in the country before traveling and to remain vigilant during your stay. Don’t be surprised if you repeatedly see police and security forces on the streets; they are a permanent fixture here.

Patrolling is carried out, especially at tourist attractions, bus stations, and train stations. Since the terrorist attacks in 2003, 2007, and 2011, Morocco has fortunately become quieter again. Pickpockets are found worldwide, so you should keep an eye on your valuables and use common sense when traveling in Morocco.

TRANSPORT IN MOROCCO

If you want to be independent, you can book a rental car* in Morocco. Many international car rental companies have offices in the larger cities and at the airport. Morocco has a well-developed network of buses, trains, and taxis.

Most cities are connected by bus, while trains mainly run between the larger cities. The bus companies are reliable and of good quality, at least Supratours and CTM. Traveling by train in Morocco is also not a problem. Taxis are also a common transportation option, especially in cities and tourist areas.

HEALTH & VACCINATIONS

Your health is paramount – no matter where you are. You should therefore inform yourself as much as possible before your trip so that you don’t experience any unpleasant surprises in the country of your dreams. A consultation with a tropical medicine specialist is certainly helpful. No vaccinations are mandatory for Morocco.

But be sure to check your “standard vaccinations,” such as tetanus, polio, or measles. Hepatitis A & B, as well as typhoid and rabies, are recommended. Morocco has a hot climate, so it’s important to protect yourself with sunscreen with a high SPF and wear a hat.
