☞ WHY YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY TRAVEL TO ISRAEL!
Israel captivated us from the very first minute. Although there was some unrest in the country, we didn’t want to miss the trip. We started in Eilat on the Red Sea and were immediately impressed by the clear water. We then took the rental car to the Red Canyon, where we hiked through red-orange rock gorges and ended up in the enormous Ramon Crater in the Negev Desert. What landscapes! WOW! It was incredibly fun exploring the country on our own by car.
Eventually we reached Jerusalem and thus fulfilled a huge dream. You have to see and experience this city, it’s simply magical. Especially the Old Town with the Western Wall, the various districts and churches. The same goes for Tel Aviv by the sea. And a swim in the Dead Sea was a must, as was a hike in En Gedi National Park. You can find everything about our tour right here, and we hope you enjoy our Israel travel blog.

ENTERING ISRAEL
You don’t need a visa to enter Israel; you’ll receive a free entry permit upon arrival. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months. Children require a child’s passport, which also has a minimum validity of six months, to enter Israel. Don’t be surprised if you’re asked a few questions upon entry. You can find all important information about entry here: Federal Foreign Office.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO ISRAEL
The good news right from the start: you can travel to Israel all year round. The off-season is particularly interesting, of course, when it’s already really cold here in Germany. The most pleasant months are March, April, May, September, and October. In summer, it gets really hot in Israel, with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. It’s better to travel to Israel during the cheaper off-season. We had an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius in December.

CURRENCY OF ISRAEL
The currency in Israel is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS or ILS), commonly known as the shekel. One shekel consists of 100 agurot. During your trip, you will be able to use both banknotes and coins for payment. Coins come in the following denominations: 1, 5, 10 ILS, or 10 and 50 agurot. Banknotes in Israel come in four denominations: 20, 50, 100, and 200 ILS. At the current exchange rate (as of December 2025), 1 € is worth around 4.02 shekels.

SAFETY IN ISRAEL
Israel certainly doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to security. But Israel is generally a safe country, even if the media often gives a different impression. In the cities, you will occasionally see armed civilians or military personnel, but this is only for general security. Crime and violence are not commonplace in Israel, but as in any other country, you should travel with common sense.

TRANSPORT
Traveling in Israel is easy and straightforward. The entire country is well-connected by public bus services. This means you can get from one place to another in a relatively short time. The Egged buses, which connect local public transport and most of the larger cities, are particularly popular. Ticket prices are reasonable, and the buses are convenient and comfortable. We also traveled through some of the country without any problems by rental car*. More information about timetables can be found here: Egged Buses.

COSTS OF ISRAEL
In general, Israel is a fairly expensive country, comparable to Germany. Whether for food, accommodation, excursions, entry fees, or shopping – the price level is very similar to that in Germany. In Israel, you pay with the shekel. For 1 euro, you currently get just under 4.17 shekels. We still use the DKB Visa Card* abroad. Fees are charged at the ATMs on site.
