1. Warnemünde Beach
We have lived in Rostock for more than 3.5 years and love the proximity to the sea. In the summer, we are, of course, here at our beautiful home beach in Warnemünde, a wide, fine-sand beach with a total of 24 beach areas. Our favorite place is beach entrance 11, near the Supremesurf Beach Bar. Here you’ll find not only chilled-out music from the speakers, but also cool drinks, surfboards, SUP boards, kites, and deck chairs. The water quality on Warnemünde’s beach is good to very good; so far, the main beach, the east beach, and the west beach have been awarded the “Blue Flag” seal of approval. If you’re ever on vacation in Rostock, a visit to the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde is a must. Click here for our separate report.

2. West Beach, Fischland Darß
One of the most beautiful beaches in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is definitely the West Beach on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. We recommend a hike through the Vorpommern Boddenlandschaft National Park, with a break at the West Beach and the Darß Lighthouse. You can also reach this beach from Ahrenshoop. The beach is a real eye-catcher, with its turquoise sea, white sand, high dunes, wilderness, and pristine beauty. The West Beach stretches 14 kilometers along the west coast of the peninsula and was even named one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world by Arte.

3. Prerow Beach
Another truly beautiful beach in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is also located on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Here in the north, you can visit the Prerow Beach with its wonderfully Caribbean flair. The sand is soft and white, and the water is clear and shallow. In some places, the beach is even more than 100 meters wide, so there’s plenty of room for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing sunbath, a game of volleyball, or a cocktail, Prerow has it all. Not far from the beach is the large “Regenbogen Camp Prerow” campsite, the long pier, and plenty of restaurants. Park in the Prerow beach parking lot and then walk directly to the beach. For us, this is the most beautiful part.

4. Hiddensee Island – Gellen Beach
Another beautiful beach in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is hidden on the Hiddensee Island. You’ll notice that there are several beaches here, and they’re all really beautiful. But our favorite was the beach by the lighthouse in Gellen. The red and white tower is only 12 meters high and sometimes not really visible from a distance. Nevertheless, it stands on the dune and towers over the beautiful beach. You can park your bike at the tower and walk down to the water. On our last visit, we were surprised by the crystal-clear water, which looked very Caribbean.

Not far from Rostock is the small Ostseebad Nienhagen with a fine sandy main beach and other natural beach areas. Below the promenade in Nienhagen you will find the so-called main beach, which you can reach via the main stairs. The beach slopes gently into the water and is therefore perfect for children and seniors. The cliffs, with their many viewpoints, are particularly beautiful. We definitely recommend a detour to the enchanting ghost forest. From there, you can also get down to the water at various points and enjoy the sunset with a beer.

You haven’t had enough yet and want to get to know another beautiful beach in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania? Then be sure to visit the Ahrenshoop Artists’ Village. The town itself is beautiful, as is the natural beach with its fine sand, high dunes, and shallow shoreline. The beach is also popular with water sports enthusiasts, who come here with their own equipment to have a little fun (there’s a surf school next door in Wustrow). Another plus: There’s also a dog beach where your four-legged friend can really let off steam. The view from the vantage point on the path to the high shore is highly recommended. From there, you can look out over the dunes, the cliffs, and the beautiful blue sea.

The Baltic Seaside resort of Zinnowitz is considered the sunniest region in Germany, with around 1,200 hours of sunshine per year. Sounds promising, doesn’t it? Not far from Zinnowitz are the Imperial Spas of Bansin, Ahlbeck, and Heringsdorf. The wide sandy beach in Zinnowitz awaits you with fine sand, numerous sports opportunities, the pier, restaurants, and beach chairs. By the way, you even have Wi-Fi at the DLRG tower.

For us, the beach in Graal-Müritz is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. We always enjoy visiting this beach after a hike through the Ribnitz Moor. The beautiful sandy beach awaits you with countless recreational activities (SUP, sailing, surfing, paddling, etc.), dog and nudist areas, restaurants, cafés, and other facilities. The beach is especially popular with families with children, as the shallow water is very wide. Here, kids can comfortably dig and splash around.

10. Boltenhagen Beach
One of the most beautiful beaches in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is definitely the beach in Boltenhagen, not far from the Hanseatic City of Wismar. Here, you’ll find green dunes, a beautiful blue sea, and fine sandy beaches. And hey, it’s also incredibly beautiful in winter, when the sea is a bit rougher and the wind whips around your ears. In summer, families especially like to come here, as the shore slopes gently, allowing little ones to splash around in the shallow waves. You can also look forward to the pretty, colorful houses behind the dunes and the restaurants. The Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen is always worth a visit!
