Oh Portugal, how beautiful you are! If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that Portugal is like our second home. We love the proximity to the Atlantic, the relaxed vibe in the country, the stunningly beautiful beaches, the waves, the charming villages, and the incredibly friendly Portuguese people. We prefer the areas around Ericeira, Peniche, and Lourinha, but we also like the Algarve down south. We also really liked cities like Lisbon, Lagos, and Porto.
Portugal is worth a visit at any time of year, as the climate is pleasant all year round. There is no “real” winter as we know it in Portugal. We particularly like to be in the country during the months of April, May, September, and October. Then it’s not too hot and, above all, not as crowded. The off-season is therefore ideal. On our Portugal travel blog, we will provide you with exciting travel reports and information.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO PORTUGAL
You can basically travel to Portugal all year round. In the summer months of June, July, and August, it gets really warm in the country. Temperatures range from 30 degrees Celsius on the coast to up to 45 degrees Celsius in the interior. The most pleasant weather is in spring and autumn, with temperatures between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. However, the climate also depends on where you are in the country. It is much warmer in the south than in the north near Porto. More on this soon.

CAMPING IN PORTUGAL
We’ve already traveled to and through the country six times. It’s perfect for camping, traveling, and surfing. It’s incredibly fun to be somewhere different in the country every day, to wake up by the sea, and to spend the day as you wish. Pleasant temperatures, good waves, and diverse landscapes await you year-round. For us, camping in Portugal is one of the top activities in the country.

TRANSPORT IN THE COUNTRY
We love exploring Portugal on our own. It’s a good idea to organize a rental car* or a camper. Buses also travel across the country, so you can easily get from Lisbon to Porto, for example. We highly recommend taking the buses. There are also train connections between these cities. In general, you can get from A to B easily by car and bus. UBER and Get Transfer also work very well and we recommend them.
SAFETY IN PORTUGAL
Portugal is generally a very safe country to travel to. The political situation is stable, even though there were terrorist attacks in 2017. Just like in any other country, you have to expect crime in the larger cities. Burglaries in vacation homes, caravans, etc. also occur regularly. Drug abuse, assaults, and natural disasters (fires) can also occur. We don’t want to scare you, but you should travel with common sense.
PORTUGAL SIGHTS
Portugal is one of our favorite countries in Europe; it’s practically our second home. We’ve been to this country six times so far and just can’t get enough. Portugal offers countless highlights; it’s diverse, exciting, and varied. Whether it’s vibrant cities, beautiful beaches, high cliffs, charming villages, Portuguese serenity, the food, or the unique flair – Portugal rocks! Absolutely! During our Portugal tours, we’ve already experienced and discovered a lot in the country itself.

CURRENCY, MONEY & PAYMENT
In the past, you had to pay in Portugal with the Portuguese escudo. Today, you can pay easily with the euro in this EU country. This is, of course, nice and easy for us travelers, as we don’t have to exchange our money, like in Thailand, South Africa, or the Caribbean, for example. If you still have notes of the old currency, you can exchange them until February 28, 2022 (source: ECB). While Portugal is no longer a “cheap holiday destination,” we don’t consider it a very expensive country to travel to either.
