How quickly does time pass? We’ve all been living with the virus for over a year now, struggling from one lockdown to the next. A pretty crazy time that no one will soon forget. 2020 started off extremely promisingly for us, and we were already looking forward to the upcoming adventures, assignments, and new challenges. But things turned out differently, because an epidemic in China turned into a global pandemic in March 2020. At first, we didn’t really follow the topic because the virus seemed so far away (even in our minds). By the end of February, the first Europeans had already died from the virus, and slowly the pandemic took its course. By mid-March, Italy recorded more deaths than China, and the situation seemed to be spiraling out of control.
France, Spain, Germany, Austria, the USA, and many other countries were also reporting increasing numbers of infections. We followed the news every day, observed the spread of the virus worldwide, and somehow couldn’t believe it was all really happening. Just a few days ago, the world seemed to be in order, and suddenly we were in the midst of one of the greatest pandemics ever experienced by humanity. We still vividly remember Angela Merkel’s first television address on the occasion of the COVID-19 pandemic on March 18, 2020. She described the pandemic as arguably one of the greatest challenges since World War II…
In today’s episode, we’ll take a look back at the last year and chat in a relaxed atmosphere about the development of the pandemic and the impact it has had on us. We’ll talk about traveling with and despite Corona, about Japanese toilets, and ask ourselves whether there really is anyone out there who absolutely hates beaches. We also wrote an article about our year with Corona, which you are welcome to read: Corona 2020 – A Year Full of Fears, Challenges, and Hope.
