Hotels & Guesthouses in Rerik

In Rerik, you’ll find a few hotels, guesthouses, and vacation apartments. Since the selection is limited, you should book well in advance, especially during holiday periods. The rooms and apartments at the Haffidyll garni* are popular with tourists. Although they are quite simply furnished, they still exude a cozy atmosphere. The Hotel and Restaurant “Zur Linde” has also received excellent reviews from previous guests and is located in a quiet location in the center of the Baltic Sea resort.

The HR Baltic Sea Cottage* holiday apartment, just 200 meters from the beach and very charming and decorated in a maritime style, is also very beautiful and idyllic. There are other holiday apartments and houses in the surrounding area, as well as a few hotels. Be sure to check out the lovingly designed Gutshof Bastorf* or the cool feels Beach Club Hotel* in Kühlungsborn.

Tourist Tax Ostseebad Rerik

If you visit the Baltic Sea resort as a guest, you must pay a so-called tourist tax. This fee is used, among other things, for the maintenance of public playgrounds, for cleaning and securing the beaches, and for financing the water rescue service. From May 15th to September 15th, you must pay €2 per day, and from September 16th to May 14th, you must pay €0.75 per day. Children up to 18 years of age are exempt from this tax. You can find all the current information here: Tourist Tax Ostseebad Rerik.

Ostseebad Rerik Sights

The sights in Ostseebad Rerik are manageable, which only makes a vacation more pleasant. At least you won’t feel like you’re missing out by just lazing on the beach. However, we can recommend a few lovely spots for a leisurely stroll. In the lovingly designed local history museum, you’ll learn more about Rerik’s history. The nostalgic bathing cart from the 19th century, located in the garden in front of the museum, is certainly an eye-catcher. Also worth seeing is the red brick St. Johannis Church, which was built in the second half of the 13th century.

A few shops, restaurants, and snack bars, a small harbor, and numerous boat docks await you on the Haffpromenade. The Haffplatz square is the central hub, where various events take place, among other things. If you want to take home a very special souvenir, you should look for the “Erik von Rerik” (just google it). From the lagoon promenade, you also have direct access to the approximately 170-meter-long pier. This bridge is currently closed because it needs to be rebuilt.

For us, the most beautiful sight in Rerik is the view from Schmiedeberg. This small elevation is located right next to the pier and, after just a few steps, awaits you with a magnificent view of the harbor, the town, the Salzhaff, the beach, and the sea. The viewpoints from the cliffs are also very beautiful, such as the Rose Garden or the Love Gorge.

Baltic Seaside Resort Rerik – Beach & Swimming Fun

Since the Baltic Sea resort of Rerik is located between the Baltic Sea and the Salzhaff Lagoon, a variety of landscapes and options await you here. The Rerik beach is around 6 kilometers long and offers enough space for all beachgoers across 10 beach sections. While in the northeast you can still see the up to 13 meter high cliffs, in the southwest towards the Wustrow peninsula it becomes very flat. You can expect, among other things, textile beaches, nudist areas, and even dog-friendly beaches (on the Teufelsschlucht beach and on the Wustrow Peninsula beach). From the pier to the “Schustertreppe” section, the beach is patrolled by the DLRG (German Lifeboat Association) during the season.

The sand is very soft and fine, especially around the pier, which is sure to delight kids building sandcastles. The gently sloping beach is generally very suitable for families with children. In summer, you can also play a game of beach volleyball, take part in an outdoor yoga session, or go kitesurfing if the wind is blowing from the right direction. Thanks to the proximity to the lagoon promenade, restrooms, restaurants, ice cream stands, and shops are just a stone’s throw away from the beach.

Baltic Seaside Resort Rerik – Excursion Destinations

There’s also plenty to experience around Rerik. A trip to the picturesque island of Poel, which is only about 13 km from Wismar, is highly recommended. During the season, excursion boats also depart from the small harbor in Rerik and make their way across the lagoon, to the island of Poel, and along the Wustrow peninsula. We highly recommend a stroll through the historic town of Wismar. This old town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, in our opinion, is one of the most beautiful old towns in Germany. You can find out more here: Our Wismar highlights and travel tips.
