What documents do I generally need for entry?
If you want to enter Oman, you need a valid passport. This must be valid for 6 months after departure. In the past, there have been cases where vacationers with a provisional German passport were not allowed on flights to Oman.
If you want to be on the safe side, you should make sure that your passport is still valid. As of June 26, 2012, entries for children in a parent’s passport are no longer valid. Since then, each child must have their own identification document.
Do I need a visa for Oman?
Travel duration up to 14 days (single entry)
On the official government website, you can still enter without a visa (Tourist Visa 26O) if you plan to stay in the country for no longer than 14 days. This is intended to further promote tourism and facilitate entry. This includes the countries listed in the table (G1 countries).
Quote: “In line with national efforts to promote and ease services for tourists visiting Oman, visitors from more than 100 countries and regions are exempt from entry visas for stays up to 14 days.” (Source: https://www.fm.gov.om/visitors/entry-visas).
According to the government website, for visa-free entry, you need a valid passport, a return flight ticket, a confirmed hotel reservation, valid health insurance, and sufficient funds to cover your expenses. We cannot say whether this will be checked on-site. In our case, only the passport was required.

Travel duration: 15 to 30 days (single entry)
If you are planning a longer trip lasting between 15 and 30 days, you must also arrange a visa in advance. The visa (26B Tourist Visit Visa) can be used for a single entry and is valid for 30 days after it is issued. So don’t apply for the visa too early.
This electronic visa (eVisa for short) costs 20 OMR (approx. €47). A valid return flight ticket and a hotel reservation are required for the visa. However, this is not always requested upon entry.
Travel duration: 15 to 30 days (multiple entries)
Are you planning a longer trip to Oman and would like to enter and exit several times? That’s no problem either. For this visa (36B Visit Visa Multi-Entry 1 year), you need a valid hotel reservation and a return flight ticket.
The visa is valid for 1 year and allows you to stay in the country for up to 30 days. The cost is 50 OMR (approx. €117).
How do I get a visa for Oman?
The easiest way to get your visa is through the Royal Oman Police website. After registering, you can apply for an e-visa relatively quickly and easily. During the process, you will be asked for common information, such as passport number, place of issue, validity, name, address, etc. You will then need to upload a photo of your passport and a recent photo of yourself.
At the end, you will be redirected to the payment page, where you can pay the fee of 5, 20, or 50 OMR by credit card. Processing usually takes 24-48 hours; we received the email with the visa confirmation just 8 hours later. Now print out the document and present it upon entry.
How much does a visa for Oman cost?
As already mentioned, a visa for Oman costs 20 OMR or 50 OMR, depending on which visa you apply for. For a stay in Oman of between 15 and 30 days with a single entry, you pay 20 OMR. If you wish to enter and exit the country multiple times, you will pay 50 OMR (for example, if you are taking a road trip through the neighboring countries).
Please note: If you apply for your visa through another website, you may incur higher costs. Third-party providers (e.g., omansium.de, omvisas.com, visumantrag.de, or cibtvisas.de) charge up to €100 more for the application. Applying via the official website of the Royal Oman Police is really not difficult.
Can I also get a visa at the airport (visa on arrival)?
No. Since October 2018, a visa on arrival is no longer possible. According to the Royal Oman Police, everyone wishing to travel to Oman must apply for their visa online in advance. This is intended to avoid long queues at the Visa on Arrival service counters at the airports. It also allows arriving travelers to be screened and checked in advance.
What do I need to consider if I’m traveling with children?
If you want to travel to Oman with a child(ren), you also need an e-visa. You can also apply for this on the Royal Oman Police website. Please also note that entries for children in a parent’s passport are no longer valid. Children need their own identification document.
