Maximize Amex Points: 20% Marriott Bonus
So you’ve got those shiny Amex Membership Rewards points and you’re wondering what to do with them. Good news: there’s a new transfer bonus on the scene. It might not be the most mind-blowing offer, but it’s something to put on your radar.
Marriott Bonvoy Transfer Bonus from Amex
Circle your calendar for July 15, 2025. That’s the date until which the Amex Membership Rewards program in the good ol’ U.S. of A. is doling out a 20% bonus when you transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy.
Now, usually, the conversion’s a straight 1:1. But with this promo, it’s spiced up to 1,000 Amex points getting you 1,200 Bonvoy points. And it’s always nice when bonuses come baked right into the conversion itself. Feel free to do this as much as your heart desires. Transfers from Amex to Marriott are more or less instant, ensuring you won’t be left twiddling your thumbs.
This isn’t the first rodeo for an Amex to Marriott transfer bonus. We saw another one back at the end of 2024, ranging anywhere from 20-35%. So, yeah, this one’s on the lower end of the spectrum.
Should You Transfer Amex Points to Marriott with a 20% Bonus?
Here’s the rub: not all points are minted equally. While 20% sounds alluring, I’d peg Bonvoy points at roughly 0.7 cents each. Sure, there are ways to stretch that dollar (quite literally), but that’s my two cents—or in this case, seven-tenths of a cent.
Even with the bonus, it’s barely creeping over one cent per Membership Rewards point in value. Compare that to my valuation of Membership Rewards points sitting pretty at 1.7 cents each, and you’ll see why I’m not jumping up and down.
Others might have a wildly different take on Marriott points, seeing value where I don’t. If that’s you, this bonus might just catch your fancy. Let’s not forget the cobwebs collecting on easy methods to score Marriott points with everyday card spending. Valuing points conservatively doesn’t mean you can’t hit the jackpot with a savvy redemption idea.
And speaking of top destinations, your Amex points could turn into memories at places like the Val Seny ski resort, if you’re into those snowy escapades.
Bottom Line
Transfer bonuses are generally a win when squeezing top value from transferable points. That’s when you’re looking at currencies where even a regular 1:1 swap is worthwhile.
But for Amex Membership Rewards shifting to Marriott Bonvoy? You drop more than half the value of your points in a typical transfer. A 20% bonus doesn’t tilt the scales much in your favor.
There’ll always be edge cases—specific plans, personal loyalty points strategies—where such a bonus makes sense. Maybe you want to top off an account for an upcoming trip or a special hotel stay.
So, does anyone plan to pounce on this Amex transfer bonus to Marriott Bonvoy? Or do you have bigger, better plans for those hard-earned Amex points?
