A night in the Sahara Desert – what a unique experience. The very next morning, our Morocco tour continued. Our next destination was: Agdz (pronounced “Agdschhhh”). The navigation system showed us just under 300 kilometers away, so we had a long drive ahead of us. But that didn’t bother us, because the view of the beautiful landscape from the car made up for all the “hardships.” In the following article we show you our beautiful accommodation in Agdz, the beautiful Kasbah Azul.

The mountain landscapes of Jbel Toubkal

After our rather sleepless night in the desert, we were looking forward to comfortable accommodations. The journey went smoothly. Every now and then, however, we had to ease off the accelerator because donkeys, camels, or goats wandered onto the road. Generally speaking, driving in Morocco is harmless, but you should never lose sight of the roadside. Note: Only in larger cities, such as Marrakech, can things get a bit wilder by car.

We passed the mountain landscapes of Jbel Toubkal and expansive stone deserts. Eventually, we reached the chain of oasis in the Drâal Valley. Every now and then, we spotted one of the many kasbahs in the valley. We made relatively fast progress. For some parts of the route, we were able to travel at 100 to 120 km/h. After the predicted four hours, we reached our destination.

Dreamy Kasbah Azul in Agdz

The town of Agdz is very small; there’s not really anything to see here. This suited us perfectly, as we were simply longing for a bed, a warm shower, and a coffee. The high season in Morocco doesn’t really start until April, and we were the only guests, apart from one lady, at the Kasbah Azul* (5 out of 5 points on Tripadvisor*). From the outside, the accommodation seemed inconspicuous, but beyond the entrance, we were surprised by a true oasis.

Officially, it’s “just” a bed and breakfast. But for us, it was a paradise in the middle of nowhere. The gardens are beautifully maintained, the outdoor pool is open year-round, and the beautiful terrace offers numerous seating areas for relaxing. We would have loved to stay longer – this accommodation was just what we were looking for.

Our beautiful room

Our room was right next to the reception. The owner opened the door, and we couldn’t even get a word out. In our minds, we were already jumping around on the bed, drinking coffee on the terrace, or getting ready to jump into the pool.

A huge bed with lots of colorful pillows, charming windows overlooking the garden, a small private terrace, a spacious bathroom with a shower, and a cozy corner to relax in. Everything was so peaceful, with absolutely no sign of hustle and bustle. We packed our luggage in the corner and sat outside in the sun. Mint tea and coffee were served without a long wait—what service.

The whole house is beautifully furnished and decorated. Small lamps, lots of colorful cushions, great communal lounges, relaxing music, and a great deal of attention to detail. And just as we were about to open our laptops to organize a few things, a black cat hopped onto Bolle’s lap. Someone here clearly needed a lot of love. No problem for Bolle – cuddling with cats is more fun than working.

Perfect food, perfect service!

Later in the evening, we were served a warm dinner in the salon with dim lighting and soft oriental music. Everything was simply perfect. Of course, we weren’t surprised that we were served “tajine” again. Everyone wanted to surprise us with this typical Moroccan specialty. No one could have guessed that we’d already had tagine on all the other ten days.

With full stomachs, we jumped into bed and snuggled under the thick duvet. It was the most comfortable bed of the entire tour, so it wasn’t at all difficult for us to fall asleep. The next morning, we took our time, even though one of the longest stretches now lay ahead of us. With a generous and varied breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere, we enjoyed our last minutes in the beautiful Kasbah Azul.

On to Taghazout by the sea

But the time came, and we had to move on. We could have certainly lasted several weeks here; the peace and the beautiful surroundings were clearly beneficial after a few days of touring. Just doing nothing and just relaxing. We need moments like these on every trip. Going from point A to point B every day, visiting one sight after another, only to collapse into bed completely exhausted in the evening? That’s not always our taste. It’s better to travel slowly and fully enjoy the different places.

We were prepared for the next 400 kilometers; a brisk 6 to 7 hours lay ahead of us. The car rolled through the gate and up the small slope. We looked back at the beautiful Kasbah Azul one last time. What a relaxing day in a dreamy oasis. But we were also looking forward to the sea, the Atlantic, and the legendary surfing hotspot Taghazout.

As you’ve read, we can’t tell you any exciting stories or give you any tips here. This post is simply dedicated to the beautiful accommodation (note: we weren’t paid for this—this accommodation is simply recommended). Here we were able to recharge our batteries a bit for all the further adventures of our tour through Morocco.
