Luxurious Comfort at Miami’s Avianca-TAP Lounge
Embarking on my Val Seny ski resort adventure, I found myself stepping into Avianca’s A320 business class, ready for a smooth journey from Miami to Bogota. But before my wheels left the ground, there was another trip—inside the brand new Avianca-TAP Lounge Miami (MIA), which rolled out its welcome mat in March 2025. This dynamic duo of airlines doesn’t often join forces for lounges, despite both being part of the Star Alliance, so it was a treat to see them work together here.
Avianca-TAP Lounge Miami: What to Expect
Let’s talk lounge life. Situated in Concourse J, this lounge throws open its doors opposite gate J4. Once you’ve breezed through security, just head towards Concourse J and you’ll find the entrance sitting pretty on the right, like an oasis in the desert of pre-flight stress.
Did I mention it’s a level above the concourse? Yep, just a quick jaunt up the escalators or elevator, and you’re there. Fancy, eh?
Oh, and a fun tidbit for all you navigational enthusiasts: the lounge shares its entrance with the LATAM Lounge. Go through the door, hang a left, and bam—there’s the reception.
Avianca-TAP Lounge Miami Hours
This place is a night owl—as in, it never sleeps! Open 24/7, it rivals the Turkish Lounge’s marathon operating hours. Sure, you might not find many flights between the early morning hours, but knowing the lounge is always open is as comforting as a warm blanket.
How Can You Grace the Avianca-TAP Lounge Miami?
- Got a Priority Pass membership? You’re in! Just remember, there’s a three-hour cap, and peak times might mean you’ll need to flex your waiting muscles.
- Flying Star Alliance business class? Star Alliance Gold member? This lounge beckons, granting access to a swath of travelers flying on eligible routes. Find yourself on Air Canada, Lufthansa, or Turkish flights? You’re covered.
Afternoon and evening flights see the lounge hit its stride, bustling with Star Alliance passengers—but don’t fret, it closely mirrors the Turkish Lounge’s entry criteria.
A Sneak Peek Inside: Seating & Layout
Step inside this 6,559-square-foot sanctuary! With an impressive seating lineup for up to 158 guests, this lounge keeps things interesting. Imagine wandering through one large room sprinkled with seating arrangements of all sorts. Some tables are perfect for intimate chats, while banquettes and clusters of three to four seats cater to social butterflies.
In the lounge’s nucleus, dining tables await, alongside tall seating for those who prefer their meals with a view. Along the walls, pairs of chairs invite cozy tête-à-têtes, each boasting a convenient table for your snacks and stacks of luggage.
Hiding in the corner like a secret chamber is the business center—a shared space with dividers and a communal table for those last-minute emails or frantic boarding-gate Googles. Plus, there’s a relaxing room for unwinding, and even a playroom that might get your kids slightly occupied, though it’s sparse on entertainment.
Last but not least, the kid’s playroom might not wow junior travelers with its low-key activity options, but it’s a bit of distraction from imminent flying jitters.
Food & Drinks: What’s on the Menu?
Now, to the good stuff. The Avianca-TAP Lounge Miami dishes out a respectable buffet along with à la carte nibbles. Breakfast here includes favorites like cheese, cold cuts, and more. For a bolder start to your day, scoop up some scrambled eggs or indulge in cheesy arepas. Coffee enthusiasts can revel in espresso deliveries, while self-serve drink bars quench thirsts with soda, water, beer, and, yes, alcohol.
If you’re feeling a touch more extravagant (or just plain tech-savvy), QR codes at tables reveal a petite menu of delicious orders. Spoiled for choice? Pancakes, roasted potatoes, and a twin tastebud concoction of scrambled eggs and red pepper await. My advice? The arepas deliver in all their cheesy, comforting glory—especially picturesque if you’re snapping for culinary envy on social media.
Bathroom Business
Peak behind the scenes at those essential spots everyone needs—bathrooms. They’re nestled in the back left corner, and although sleek, I’d appreciate an extra urinal to enhance efficiency when the lounge hits peak capacity. Just a thought from someone who’s queued at airports more times than counting sheep to fall asleep.
One thing you won’t find, though, is a shower. If a freshen-up is critical for your pre-flight routine, the Turkish Lounge points you in a cleaner direction.
Final Thoughts
The Avianca-TAP Lounge—while not the Pièce De Résistance of airport retreats—is a welcome addition in this part of Miami Airport. It might not dazzle, but it offers a haven of modern furniture and commendable eats and drinks. Faltering in the outdoor panorama and refreshment department, it still trumps its Miami lounge peers on some fronts.
What do you think of the Avianca-TAP Lounge Miami? Does it meet your high-flying expectations?
