The traditional Tyrolean village of Igls is located on a picturesque plateau 7 km from Innsbruck . Together with Innsbruck, the Eagles hosted the Winter Olympic Games twice. It was here during the 1976 Olympics that the Austrian Franz Klammer won gold in downhill. The Pacherkofel skiing area , where the Olympic ski competitions took place, rises above the capital of Tyrol.
After the Olympics, there was only one red track and a lift going from the center of the village. The Eagles resort has tracks of various levels of difficulty, so aces, beginners and children will feel equally comfortable here.
500 km of trails and 200 ski lifts, including the Stubai Glacier. The price of the Super Skipass also includes 2 free trips to St. Anton and Kitzbühel . In the village itself there is an Olympic track with a height difference of more than 1000 m, accessible to all categories of skiers. Patscherkofel (Patscherkofel 900 m – 2246 m) offers beginners a good blue route and one and a half routes of medium difficulty. Here are excellent conditions for skiing.
For lovers of sports entertainment: a sports center with a swimming pool, indoor tennis courts, skating and sledding, squash, curling, a bowling alley, sledding and bobsleigh tracks, paragliding. At your service at the resort: a cinema, several restaurants and bars will decorate the evenings at the resort. Snow cannons guarantee snow cover throughout the winter season.
Features of the resort
The skiing area is located at an altitude of 900 to 2247 meters above sea level and consists of several tracks with a total length of 20 kilometers. 9.2 kilometers of blue pistes, 10.8 kilometers of red pistes, and no black pistes at all, so this resort, thanks to its size and slopes, is perfect for lovers of quiet family vacations or, for example, for retirees. There are only 8 lifts and 3 ski schools in Eagles .
The Pacherkofel skiing area, where the Olympic ski competitions were held in 1964 and 1976, is considered “home” for the residents of Innsbruck and rises 1,400 m above the capital of Tyrol. Despite its rather modest size, Pacherkofel has all the conditions for winter sports, and ski tracks are suitable for both beginners and athletes. You can get to the start of the descents from Eagles using the Pendelbahn lift, as well as from the Roman road (Römerstraße) using the Olympiaexpress 4-seater chairlift. All 18 km of local tracks are perfectly prepared for skiing and equipped with a modern system of artificial snow.
Three ski and snowboard schools have been opened to teach skiing skills. There is a ski kindergarten. If the Pacherkofel ski area is not enough, you can purchase the single “Innsbrucker Gletscher Skipass”, which gives you access to eight ski areas with a total length of 230 km and 75 lifts.
Many claim that there is practically no entertainment in this village. Don’t believe it! The Eagles resort , of course, is not Ibiza or Amsterdam, but there is something to do here in the evening. Restaurants, bars, a cinema, a club are open to tired skiers and snowboarders, as well as sympathizers. Bowling is available for those who still have energy left for sports after an active day. Children will surely enjoy riding a horse-drawn sleigh (by the way, a special kindergarten has been created for children in Eagles).
The parish church is a fine example of Baroque architecture. In 1849, an organ was installed in it. Also interesting is the parish church of St. Martin, located in Villa. The first mentions of it appeared in documents of 1397.
There is a pilgrimage church on the Pacherkofel mountain in Heiligwasser. It is located at an altitude of 1240 m and is famous for its “healing waters”. The “Visitor’s Home” museum occupies the first floor of the tourist information center.
Its small exposition is updated annually. Concerts are held here in winter. In Innsbruck you can visit the “Alpine Garden”, open from June to September.

Those who choose Eagles Ski Resort, usually stop either in the village itself or in nearby Innsbruck (Innsbruck). Among the popular hotels is Sporthotel Igls 4 *, built from natural materials and offering guests rooms with a view of the mountains, nutritious breakfasts and always impeccable service. The cost of accommodation is 114 – 285 euros per day, depending on the type of room. Rooms in the cozy Sonnenhof and Leitgebhof 3 * at a price of 70-80 euros per day are in no less demand. It is also worth mentioning the Batzenhausl 4 *, the interior of which harmoniously combines modern technology and the atmosphere of the 19th century. In addition to traditional restaurants and bars serving national dishes, Eagles has an original needle-cafe, stylized as an ice hut.
It is worth adding that this region of Austria has long been famous for its healing thermal waters, which today are widely used in various spas, where it is so nice to relax after an active day spent on the slopes. Tourists can also diversify their vacation by going to a multi-functional sports center, a squash hall, a large tennis court, swimming in an indoor pool, going to a bowling alley, etc. It will also be interesting to walk around the city itself.
