Treatment of diseases with radon is successfully used in several places in Europe. However, nowhere else in the world is there such a variety of radon treatment options as in Gastein.
This multifaceted effect on the body fights against chronic inflammation and allergies and promotes long-term pain relief. Prolonged exposure to heat, for example, in the Gastain healing tunnels, leads to mild therapeutic heat with an additional healing effect. The positive influence is also helped by the high alpine location of Gastein.
Due to the interaction of all components, Gastein treatment is quite effective natural therapy in the treatment of a number of diseases.
Thermal water, steam baths and Gastein healing tunnels are the three therapeutic agents used in this therapy. Depending on the severity and type of the disease, as well as on the state of health of the vacationer, an individual therapeutic program is drawn up.
Radon therapy helps especially well in the treatment of chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory tract and skin. In addition, radon therapy is an excellent immune prevention.
The noble gas radon enters the body through the skin and lungs, and its daughter products settle on the skin. At the same time, soft alpha radiation is emitted. This stimulates the body’s self-healing abilities on several levels:
- The regenerative work of cells is activated
- The number of aggressive free radicals decreases
- The mediator TGF-Beta1 is activated, which helps to heal and reduce inflammatory processes
- The effect of the mediator of pain sensitivity, Substance P, decreases
- The amount of beta-endorphin increases and a positive effect on serotonin exchange is revealed
The dose of radon entering the body is an indicator that is fundamentally important for treatment. In thermal water, as well as in treatment galleries (tunnels), its dose is extremely small and therefore has an exceptionally positive effect on the body.
The number of visits to the underground galleries depends on the specific disease and the stage of its development. An extract from the medical history can be provided by the treating therapist or doctors directly from the sanatorium. Radon has the same rules of use as other drugs – careful dosing in each specific case.
A high level of radiation is dangerous for the body, and low doses of radon, on the contrary, are useful. At low doses of radon, the cell repair system is strengthened, chromosome damage is reduced, and the body’s immune status improves.
The unique climate inside the Hastain tunnels activates the regenerative work of cells. Anti-inflammatory mediators are secreted, which contribute to recovery. Immunological balance is established. In addition to pain relief, this therapy is also an excellent means of maintaining health and immunoprophylaxis.
