Val Seny is a small ski resort located in the Northern Alps, in the upper part of the Morien Valley on the territory of the Vanoise National Park Reserve. The resort is located at the foot of Mount Rons and the Mont-Seny Pass. The town is located near the Italian border and is considered one of the oldest French resorts – it was founded in the middle of the last century as a climatic resort, and only later became a ski resort.

Val Seny consists of three ancient mountain villages – Lanslebourg, Lanslevillard and Termignon, in which you can get to know the life of French peasants who lived here in the last century, and taste the products of local cheese factories. However, walks around Val Seni will bring more impressions from the contemplation of mountain landscapes – the resort is literally surrounded by mountain peaks, the height of which is about 3000 meters, and there are about a hundred peaks in total. In addition, the high-altitude (2,000 meters) Lake Mont-Seni is located nearby.

Tracks, slopes lifts

The ski season in Val Seine lasts from mid-December to the second half of April. However, lifts on the slopes of the resort start working already in October and end only in May.

The height difference in Val Seine is 1400 meters. The tracks of this resort are mostly intended for athletes with an initial and intermediate level of training. But there are descents marked in black as the most difficult. In Val Seine, Europe’s longest track for beginners has been laid – its length is 9 kilometers.

With the Val Seine pass, you can ski on the slopes of Termignon-la-Vanoise, which is another 14 slopes in addition to the 55 that are in the resort. The total length of all trails in Val Seine is 125 kilometers, and there is also a 27-kilometer cross-country ski and toboggan run. About 170 “cannons” for artificial snow are installed on the slopes, and there is a ski school.

The skating area is ideal for families with children and beginners. There are interesting “red” tracks – La Me and La Tomba, and “black” tracks, including the winding Le Lac. The famous ten-kilometer green l’Escargot (snail) with a height difference of 2,100 to 1,400 meters is one of the ten longest routes in Europe.

Entertainment

Every year in January, the “Great Odyssey” – a dog sled race – starts in Val Seine. After six days, the participants of the race, who have walked about 800 kilometers on the mountain slopes, return to Val Seine. The finish of the race is the most spectacular moment of the event. The competition is considered the most difficult in Europe.

Val -Seine has 27 km of cross-country skiing trails, one long toboggan run accessible by the Val-Seine-les-Hôtes gondola, and 46 km of Nordic walking trails. There is an opportunity to engage in paragliding, snow rafting, rock climbing, and snow biking. On the shores of Lake Mont Seny, there are several laikas, ready to take anyone who wants to ride on a sled.
