Val di Fassa is a ski resort consisting of many recreation areas with hotels, bars, entertainment facilities and fine restaurants in a 20-kilometer long Alpine picturesque valley.
The resort of Val di Fassa (Italy, Val di Fassa) is located in the very center of the Dolomites, it is the largest and most densely populated ski area. How to get to the resort
From the city of Innsbruck (Austria) along the E35 highway to the resort area is about 155 km. Tourists get there by cars (including those rented at the place of arrival, travel time will be about 3 hours), buses, and with the help of an ordered transfer from the airport (travel time is about 2.5 hours).
From the railway station of the city, electric trains will take you to the city of Bolzano (45 km), which provides several bus routes to the resort villages of the valley (the total travel time is at least 5 hours). In winter, flights to Innsbruck are organized from Lviv.
From the city of Verona along the highway A22 / E35 to the resort towns is about 190 km. Cars (including rented ones), customized transfers (including group ones) or buses on the route are possible means of transporting guests to the cherished mountains. There are no direct bus routes, with transfers you will have to spend about 5 hours on the road. Cars will help shorten the journey to 2.5-3 hours.
The journey from Milan (275 km), Venice (260 km), Brescia (220 km) takes more time on the specified types of transport due to their greater distance from Val di Fassa . High-speed trains in Italy go to the city of Trento (82 km), then local bus routes to the resort (approximately 2 hours).
Weather at the resort
At the beginning of winter, more than half of the days at the resort are sunny, the daytime temperature ranges from + 2 o C to -7 o C; at night it is colder to -14 o C in the middle of the month. The first month of the new year is full of sunny days, during daylight hours the temperature rises to 0 °C and drops to -10 ° C, at night – 12-14 ° C is consistently observed.
February is characterized by an unstable temperature: during the day – 2 – 6 o C, at night – up to – 16 o C (short-term frosts below 20 o C are possible). The beginning of spring pleases tourists with an increase in the daytime temperature to positive values, but at the same time the night thermometer drops to -8-10 o C (sometimes up to -16 o C). The best time to relax at the resort.
Weather conditions favor recreation and sports activities in the period from January to March. March is considered the most favorable: the temperature is comfortable during the day, there are more sunny days, snow almost does not fall, there is a slight minus at night, the tracks are smooth and pleasant for downhill.
Resort infrastructure
Val di Fassa is a ski resort , on the territory of which there are hotels from simple economy (about 90) to standard (more than 150) and high comfort (more than 20). A large number of buildings (more than 600) are ready to offer apartments with equipped kitchens and cozy rooms. Advance booking is possible.
More than 60 restaurants, 20 pubs and 10 bars are ready to satisfy the culinary needs of tourists. At night, guests are entertained by 7 discos.
Special buses (skibas) run between the towns, the lift system in the mountains is practically arranged and allows you to quickly reach the upper points of the desired tracks or move to the neighboring slopes.
Tracks, slopes and lifts
As for the slopes of Val di Fassa, they can be divided into three main skiing areas. The first unites the territories of Campitello and Canacea. The second is a small independent area above the Alba resort (1460m). The third covers the cities of Pozza (1320m) and Vigo di Fassa (1390m).
Equipped tracks in the mountains stretched for more than 230 km with a height difference from 1300 m to almost 3 km.
More than 70 descents of varying difficulty with a length of up to 130 km, including:
- for beginners (blue) – 27;
- medium difficulty (red) – 40;
- for professionals (black) – 7.
Fans of skiing in the mountains are lifted up:
- funiculars (7);
- lifts with equipped cabins (4);
- lifts with chairs (36);
- cable lifts (34).
The skiing area Catinaccio – Rosengarten (height difference 1400 – 2350 m) is located above the quiet settlements of Pozza di Fassa and Vigo di Fassa. More than 40 km of descents of varying difficulty and one track illuminated at night, equipped with lifts.
The track above Pozza works not only during the day, but also at night, thus claiming to host stages of the World Cup competitions. The famous Italian skier Alberto Tomba trains on the local slopes, which is an additional reason for skiing fans to come.
Near the town of Kanatsei (1465 m) there are ski tracks of any difficulty and there are several training schools; there is a funicular that takes tourists to the Belvedere-Coll Rodella stadium. The paths of the Sella Ronda zone begin from it. This place is climbed from Campitello (1450 m).
The area of Ciampac (Alba di Canacei) is famous for its difficult course for professionals.
The calm and quiet settlement of Mazzini di Fassa (1370 m) offers flat ski tracks and cozy small hotels, convenient bus routes to other places of the resort.
Val di Fassa is a ski resort that has some features for Ukrainian tourists:
- instructors of community schools in English, German and Italian;
- hiking long distances requires a good knowledge of the working hours of the lifts to avoid trouble in the evening hours;
- during the biggest “inflow” of skiing enthusiasts, the time of ascent to the beginning of the track increases;
- paid travel on buses between settlements (ticket 3 euros – one-time, 7 euros – for weekly trips together with the presentation of a ski pass, children under 6 years of age are free of charge);
- at the foot of the mountains, parking is paid (approximately 5 euros / day);
- skiing in Campitello is not possible;
- car travelers prefer to make a stop in the city of Moena, from which they can quickly get to many ski lifts by bus.
Ski passes
Approximate price for the skiing region in VAL DI FASSA, depending on the season: from 40 euros per day to 250 for 6 days, for children – almost half as cheap.
The towns of Campitello (with the suburbs of Fontanazzo, Mazzini, Campestrine) and Canacei (Alba, Peña) are located in this region, a component of Sella Ronda – a ski agglomeration united by common lifts.
On the tracks, visitors on skis (snowboards) can, without removing their equipment, drive through the surroundings for more than 400 km, admiring the panorama of snow-covered mountain peaks and picturesque slopes that opens up.

gondolas and cable cars – 12;
with cabins – 17;
with chairs – 30.
The routes have a length of:
- blue class – 32 km;
- red class – 8 km;
- black class – 12 km;
- 2nd with night lighting – about 3 km;
- equipped snow parks and children’s parks for learning to skate.
Where to ride
Beginner skiers who are confident in their body control can use the routes on the slopes of the Belvedere and C-Rodella peaks and on the Passo Sella pass, which have steep and gentle descents with sufficient width for maneuvers; fast lifts and good snow cover. For those who want to learn the basics of snowboarding, there are schools in the towns of Canacei, Moena, Campitello, Vigo di Fassa and Pozza di Fassa with the services of attentive instructors who communicate with students in several languages.
Near the town of Canazei is the Chiampak track, from its beginning you can reach Sella-Brunesh (altitude over 2.4 km) on a chair lift. Several simple blue trails start here.
Alpine skiers with an average level of training can use most of the resort’s routes. Steep, wide slopes and fast lifts are located in the mountain stadium between the peaks of K-Rodella and Passo Sella (altitude about 2.3 km).
Experienced athletes train on the slopes of Mount Chiampak, use off-piste slopes, riding on them from the rolled sections (from Belvedere and K-Rodella peaks). Such skiing is associated with the danger of snow avalanches!
Hotels and apartments
Val di Fassa is a ski resort with a large number of hotels and apartments. They offer tourists a vacation from quiet family to comfortable and refined (for 2 people, 6 nights in February).

Skiing enthusiasts should pay attention to the location of rest areas in relation to lifts. Accommodation in apartments (private rooms, chalets, houses), which have separate kitchen areas and are intended for large companies or families, is popular.

After skiing in the mountains, guests of the resort can take advantage of numerous entertainments of local towns:
- services and simulators of the sports center in Kanace (saunas, indoor pool, fitness classes, squash, paragliding); equipment of the Moen sports complex (fitbox, spinning, fitness, bodybuilding);

The national cuisine of the region was influenced by the proximity of Austria and the Mediterranean Sea, the traditional dishes of the Ladin people live here. Night clubs and bars offer visitors fiery music and a variety of drinks.
Lovers of walks will enjoy walking the streets of local towns and their surroundings. An exhibition of toys and sculptures by the famous Italian master Andrea Sorapera is open in Kanacei, where you can watch his work and buy your favorite piece of his work.
The aforementioned dolls take part in carnival events that take place on the streets of settlements in February and March. A few kilometers from the mentioned town, there is an old La Sia sawmill, which is offered to visit with a sightseeing tour.
It is impossible not to mention the wonderful tradition of this place – the February Ladin Carnival. It is a colorful costume show with masks of various characters from Italian legends and tales.
Visiting Val di Fassa is welcome with children, at whose services we offer centers and parks with entertainment, primary schools for learning to ski in the mountains with instructors. Parents are offered to leave their children in the care of attentive teachers and animators for a certain time, and enjoy their favorite skating.
