You will be pleasantly surprised when you get to the Spindleruv Mlyn ski resort . Spindleruv Mlyn belongs to the group of sixteen prestigious mid-altitude winter resorts in Europe, being at the same time an ideal place for recreation not only in winter, but also in summer.

Spindleruv Mlyn includes a fairly large area in the north-east of the Czech Republic on the border with Poland and consists of several resort villages surrounded by a national park. It is located in the area of ​​the upper course of the Laba (Elbe) at the confluence of the river with the St. Peter stream. The resort is much cheaper than its counterparts in Austria and other Western countries, so not only Czechs and Poles, but also French, Germans, and Austrians are regulars here.

There are a total of 5 resort zones in the village:

• Saint Peter (Svatý Petr) . The largest center of sports events with beautiful artificial snow tracks, suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. Also in this area there is a popular children’s SKI & FUN Park, located in the immediate vicinity of the lower station of the funicular with the route Svatý Petr – Pláň. A 27-meter-long moving carpet and numerous entertainment programs for the park’s little customers surrounded by professional instructors will provide children with the opportunity to master the basics of skiing, and parents to ride calmly and, at the same time, watch over their children with every ascent on the funicular.

• Medvědín (Medvědín) . This is the most popular area, with a large free parking lot, nearby ski schools and a very cute water park. Basically, in this area there are red and black tracks, but a little to the side there is a blue track that will lead us to the area of ​​Horní Mísečky, which is also connected to Medvedín in the reverse direction of the ski lifts.
• Horní Mísečky . The Gorni Misechko area is an ideal place for beginner skiers and for a family vacation with children. There are 4 cable lifts, perfectly prepared ski tracks and a snow park with its own lift, designed for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. There are also good trails for cross-country skiing and mountain climbing.
• Hromovka (Hromovka) . Gromovka is the longest ski track in the Czech Republic for downhill skiing in the dark. With its length of 1500 m and artificial snow, this lighted track provides the opportunity for excellent evening skiing.
• Labská . The new area was built on the route of the former ski lift. The route of the new funicular, in comparison with the original one, has been increased by 300 m and leads directly to the cross-country skiing route leading to Gorna Misechko. The ski slope was also enlarged and widened, and artificial snowmaking equipment was installed. The area is recommended, first of all, to families for a quiet practice of skiing on sunny slopes. An additional advantage is the possibility of purchasing cheaper, so-called regional season tickets, because this area is located at some distance from the village.

A total of 5 funiculars operate in all these zones: one – two-seater chairlift (St. Peter), three – four-seater chairlifts (St. Peter, Gromivka and Medvedyn) and 11 rope lifts. The total capacity is up to 18,000 people per hour, who can travel, as mentioned earlier, on 25 km of ski tracks.

Within the framework of the entire Spindleruv Mlyn, there is a single ski pass. The standard price for a whole day of skiing is 750 kroner, but it is possible to reduce the price to 375 kroner in different periods of time with the help of discounts and promotions.

The areas of Svati Petro, Medvedyn and LABSK are connected by a regular Ski Bus line.

In addition, in Mlyny, you can also go sledding on an almost 4-kilometer track with a height difference of 350 m, tickle your nerves at the crazy speeds of snow tubing and go ice skating on an open rink.

What is interesting to see in Spindleruv Mlyn?

The sights of Spindleruv Mlyn are mainly natural: the source of one of Europe’s largest rivers, the Elbe, the ski slopes of Medvedin (Vitkovice district), the top of which can be reached by lift directly from the town, and St. Peter, the most popular lift, located in the center of Spindleruv Mlyn. Mlyna, these ski centers are connected by permanent bus routes surrounding the mountain ski resort: St. Peter, Maiden stone – the highest peak of Spindleruv Mlyn, rising to a height of 1414 m, located on the Krkonoše watershed, there are also ski tracks.

The river Elba – Laba flows through Špindlerův Mlýn. It has several sources, some of which are equipped for viewing by tourists. The river begins at an altitude of approximately 1400 m. not far from the source of the Elbe forms a waterfall falling into a 50-meter abyss.

Spindleruv Mlyn: excursions and activities

Kralovegradetsky region, in which Spindleruv Mlyn is located, is rich in sightseeing events. At the foot of Krkonose is one of the most famous zoos in the Czech Republic, which combines an ordinary zoo with a safari park, as there are many African animals. Come to the zoo in the summer and you will take part in the many activities held here.

Of course, you can visit the center of the region – Hradec Králové, one of the most beautiful cities in Bohemia.

At the foot of Snizhka Mountain there is a very interesting object – Relax Park, which combines both adrenaline and adventure. Here you can ride a sled, as an avid sledder or bobsledder.

There is a water park in Spindleruv Mlyn itself, which delights visitors all year round.

History and sights of Spindleruv Mlyn

If you are going on a trip to the highest mountains of the Czech Republic, Spindleruv Mlyn will serve as one of the best bases at any time of the year. It lies at the very end of the road that leads from Vrhlabi through the valley against the flow of the Elbe River to the foot of the Krkonoše.

The first mention of the area where the resort is now located dates back to 1516. At that time, gold and silver were mined here. In 1704, the Spindler family settled on this territory. They built a mill on the banks of the Elbe River, in honor of which the village was later named. Later, a forester’s house, huts and summer houses appeared near the mill. Due to the development of green tourism, the rich began to come to Špindlerův Mlýn more and more often to enjoy the local beauties and breathe fresh air. Since then, the village began to develop continuously and turned into one of the most popular resorts in the Czech Republic .

Spindleruv Mlyn has probably long offered some of the best conditions for skiers, both downhill and cross-country. Today, you will find 4 ski resorts here, which can be alternated with one ski pass during the day without limitation. The ski slopes in Medvedyn, Svyatyi Petrov, Gromivka, Gorny Misechko and LABSK are more than 25 kilometers long and offer slopes for everyone, from beginners to experienced skiers.

 

Saint Peter Spindleruv Mlyn region

Although there is a long winter season here, visitors to Spindleruv Mlyn will enjoy it in summer as well. Because several major tourist and cycling routes start here, and the city offers sports.

 

In the center

Be sure to visit the source of the Elbe River, the Snow Pit and LABSK Bowden – go on a scientific route through Gorni Misechko or climb the cable car to Medvedin, which will make your journey much easier. From “Spindle” you can also climb Snezka along the red route, 10 km long with a height difference of more than 1000 meters. Or you can choose a longer route with less ascent along the blue route through the White Elba Valley.

Spindleruv Mlyn offers, among other things, a water park and a wellness center “Water Paradise” or a rope center. When you arrive in the city, you will drive past the prominent dam of the Elbe Reservoir, where one of the most adrenaline-filled experiences awaits you – crossing the Elbe at a height of 29 meters on a huge rope swing. Or you can descend through the dam on a rope and then climb back up to a height of 35 meters on rock ledges. Naturally, with insurance and under the supervision of experienced instructors.

The snow cover lasts from November to April, up to 3 meters thick. On average, January temperatures in the highlands do not fall below -10 on the peaks of the highlands, and at the foot of the valleys it is even warmer, about -3 degrees. Therefore, the conditions for recreation are simply ideal.

Spindleruv Mlyn provides vacationers with free buses that operate on three routes that can be used to move around the resort, they will take you to the lifts. There is also a paid route that will take mountain vacationers to the border with Poland.

In addition, Spindleruv Mlyn has a well-established taxi system. Since tourists travel with ski equipment, taxis in Spindleruv Mlyn have many seats, and if you have a large company, then taking a taxi turns out to be very profitable, no more than 1 euro per person. Taxi stands are located at the foot of all lifts, taxis can also be called from the hotel.

 

How to get to Spindleruv Mlyn from Prague

You can get to Spindleruv Mlyn from Prague by bus. Regular flights with an interval of 1 hour depart from the central bus station and from the Chornyi Myst metro station. Travel time is from 2 to 2.5 hours. The fare is fixed and amounts to 180 kroner.

In addition to the bus, you can use taxi services and get to the resort in less than 2 hours. Such a trip will cost you from 1,700 kroner.
