Seli is a ski resort in Greece , recognized as one of the best in the country. It spread on Mount Verma. This is one of the best ski resorts in Greece . To the southeast of Verma is the city of Veria, the capital of the prefecture of Imatia – the region that was the center of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia.

Lovers of active recreation here are waiting for wonderful red and blue tracks, including for cross-country skiing, a large snowboard park. The height difference here reaches 400 meters. Sily ski resort – the first ski center of the country has been operating since 1934

Historical reference

In the middle of the 19th century, in the 1930s, on the land of Macedonia, at an altitude of 1,530 meters, the Greek ski resort of Seli was formed. The first Greek competitions were held on the territory of the resort.

Seli is not only known as a resort, but also as a place with historical monuments, small architectural buildings, amidst beautiful nature, fresh air, with a rural lifestyle. Churches from the Byzantine era and ruins of the oldest city wall have survived here to this day. Not far away, twelve kilometers from Veria, there is the earliest capital, which in the past belonged to the Macedonian kingdom of Vergina. Here you will find the burial of the father of the great general Alexander the Great, Philip II.

On the walls of this tomb, you can clearly see drawings showing the moments of the hunt, among everything you will find burial objects – weapons, cloths, armor, a golden laurel wreath, as well as a ceremonial shield. You will have the opportunity to see the family portraits of the dynasty of kings, which are made of ivory, in special display cases.

How to get there:

The Seli ski resort is located ninety-six kilometers from the international airport located in the city of Thessaloniki. The car transfer allows you to get to the ski resort area without any particular problems along an excellent track with special fences. Seli has a good transport connection with the city of Veria, which is located twenty-four kilometers away. The distance from Seli to the city of Naoussa is twenty kilometers, and to the city of Kozani no more than seventy-four kilometers.

Public transport here is represented by buses.

Slopes, tracks, lifts

The most visited ski resort in Sela. Tours from December to March. For those who like to go downhill skiing, there is a wonderful ski track here. The height difference is about four hundred meters. Nowadays, there are approximately 20 trails here, their length is twenty-five kilometers, ten of them are for those who are just starting to ride. There are the shortest tracks, they are intended for beginners of ski schools. There are special skating schools at the resort.

For skiing enthusiasts, there are tracks one kilometer long. The longest track starts from a high point, which stands at an altitude of 2000 meters, and is three kilometers long. Such a route was called circular because it goes around the western side of the slope in a circle. There is also the most difficult track nine hundred meters long.

For those who like cross-country skiing, there are special ten kilometers of excellent tracks for them.

Seli meets all the requirements and standards of a modern ski resort. At the service of skiers, there are 11 lifts for the most comfortable service, a wide selection of ski tracks, both for beginners and for experienced professionals

There are also hiking trails, including the international climbing route E4.

Attractions

Many churches from the Byzantine period have been preserved in the vicinity of Seli and Veria. Lovers of antiquity will be impressed by the ruins of the city wall – here you can take memorable photos. Veria and its surroundings are known for traditional mountain villages, fantastic cuisine and wine, and wonderful nature.

Nearby is Vergina, or Eges. In the past it was the capital of the Macedonian state. The burials of local rulers, as well as Philip II – the father of Alexander the Great, have been preserved to this day.

There are no attractions directly in Sily – it is a traditional resort for sports recreation.

Entertainment

In the evenings, a disco is held at the resort.

Among sports entertainment, you can have an active nightlife. There are several restaurants, 4 bars, and one of them offers a wonderful view of the local resort.

You will taste the excellent cuisine of the local tavern, visiting the Greek-style interior, tasting local wine and food. There is also a swimming pool, sauna, gym with exercise equipment for guests.

In the village, you can stay in a traditional hotel or in a separate chalet. Some prefer to stay in hotels in the vicinity of the resort, in neighboring villages, where the national Greek flavor is particularly well felt.
