This small, cozy resort belongs to the Les Arcs skiing region and consists of five villages – Landry, Payse, Nancroix, Vallandry, Plan-Payse. The altitude of the resort is very comfortable: 1,600 meters (Vallandry) and 1,650 meters (Pesei). The resort is immersed in a coniferous forest, which gives it a special charm. Skiers approach their place of residence along pleasant forest slopes. There is no special a-pre-ski entertainment here, restaurants and shops are minimal, but sufficient, life at the resort is very calm and measured, which makes this resort especially attractive for family vacations with children. All its tracks are located on the southern sunny slopes, and the resort itself delights with a warm, calm, friendly atmosphere of a Savoy village and amazingly beautiful landscapes.
The main advantage of the Pesei-Vallandry resort is that it is located in the heart of the Paradiski ski area. It is from here that the Vanoise Express high-speed double-decker cabin departs to the opposite side of the valley – to the ski region of La Plagne. So for those who are going to ski the entire Paradiski area, we advise you to stay in Pesei-Vallandre.
Tracks, slopes, lifts
The ski area of Pescey-Vallandry is connected to the neighboring ski area of La Plaine by the Vanoise Express cable car, the largest in Europe. The total length of the tracks of the entire region exceeds 400 km. Here you can ski on two glaciers – de la Chape on the top of Mount Bellecote (3416 m) and Vary on the top of Aiguille Rouge (3226 m). The resort has its own “home” tracks, mostly simple “blue” tracks, laid through the forest and reliably protected from the wind. Going down the slopes, you can admire the wonderful views of the Mont Blanc massif, the Beaufort and Tarantes valleys.
Pescey-Vallandry in France is known for the longest (7 km) and scenic run in the Alps – La Forêt, which is perfect for beginner skiers and cross-country skiers. There are also easy trails in the Vallandry area for beginners.
For more experienced skiers and snowboarders, the huge skiing area between Les Arcs and La Plan will be interesting. There is a great variety of tracks with a height difference of up to 2000 m and several first-class snow parks.
Professionals should be recommended to try the steep “black” and “red” descents in Les Arcs, especially the tracks on Mount Aiguille Rouge (3226 m). From its glacier to the village of Villaroger (1,200 m), a 7-kilometer non-stop track descends with a rather significant slope – one of the steepest in Europe! There are also many interesting slopes for freeriding and snowboarding in this area. From the Les Arcs area , you can easily ski back to Pessay-Vallandre on the “blue” and “red” pistes past the Arc 2000 and Arc 1800 stations.
Entertainment and active recreation
Ski races are often held in Pesei-Vallandre and excellent conditions have been created for winter sports: 43 km of cross-country skiing trails have been laid here, an open biathlon center, and ski schools for children and adults.
The resort offers a lot of interesting activities for all ages. You can take a dog sled or horse-drawn sleigh ride through the expanses of Vanoise National Park, try your hand at ice climbing and climb frozen waterfalls. For lovers of hiking, there is a large selection of scenic, quiet forest routes. Extreme enthusiasts will be able to admire the mountains from a bird’s eye view while paragliding.
Once a week, the resort hosts a traditional competition for the best snow sculpture. It will also be interesting for the whole family to visit dairy farms, where hospitable owners will show how to milk a goat or a cow and, of course, treat everyone to excellent local cheeses.
