Liberec is one of the most beautiful and diverse cities of the Czech Republic, located in a picturesque place, among nature and architectural monuments, museums and mountain peaks. One of the many advantages of a trip to Liberec from Lviv is the ski resort located on Mount Yested. There are also many opportunities for ecotourism here. The city is interesting for children and adults thanks to its museums, water park, and interactive entertainment centers.

 

Liberec is 100 km from Prague, and the ski center called Liberec – Jested, often called just Liberec, lies in the foothill valley between the top of Jested and the chain of Jizera mountains. The height difference is 1012 m.

Proximity to Poland (about 40 km) and Germany (20 km) determines the favorable and successful location of the resort.

Due to its special geographical location, Liberec has acquired a rich, rich history. The proximity of the border with Poles and Germans plays an important role in it.

Winter in Liberec is cold, by local standards. Due to the location of the city, in the mountainous area in the north of the Republic, it is always cooler here than in the center of the country. The average temperature in the cold period is -4 degrees, but it can be colder, up to -8. Winter here is snowy and frosty, clear and very beautiful.

Spring brings warming, but this season is not very pronounced in the north of the Czech Republic. During this period, the snow melts, the air temperature rises to +2 degrees. At this time, the cost of recreation in Liberec will be lower, especially after the end of the ski season in early April.

Summer is hot, temperature indicators reach up to +25 degrees. Summer is a great time for ecotourism and walking around attractions, museums, and entertainment centers. Shopping is also excellent during this period. If you go to Liberec from Lviv for walks, getting to know the city, its cafes and restaurants, then it is in the summer.

Autumn comes to Liberec along with discounts and reduced prices for tours. The beginning of autumn is warm, with an average temperature of 16 degrees. But it’s the end – it’s quiet time, tourists don’t come here, the ski season hasn’t started yet. Therefore, if you want to really save, autumn in Liberec is the right time.

There are 3 ski jumps, 2 skis of easy difficulty – they are necessary for training (blue), and 5 sports tracks with a level of increased and professional difficulty.

The most difficult tracks are popular among experienced, skillful, seasoned tourists and professional athletes who come here to maintain and strengthen their skills. Among such slopes are 4 red and 1 most difficult black.

In addition to the mountain ones, there is also a plain cross-country course 7.5 km long through the picturesque foothills and wooded landscape.

 

Snowboarder

There is a multi-disciplinary snow park in Liberec, which has structures for snowboarders, extremes, stuntmen: pipes, springboards, pipes, trapezes, etc.

Other sports services

For a well-rounded winter vacation, Liberec also offers such active entertainment as an ice skating rink, snow biking, hiking, a swimming pool, sledding or sledding.

Keep in mind that the hiking trails in winter pass on the ice surface. They are not very wide, so they are considered dangerous. It is not advisable for unprepared tourists to undertake extreme ascents and descents alone.

The city is the owner of many beautiful architectural elements and fascinating objects. What should a tourist see?

• The Liberec Botanical Garden has collected several valuable collections of plants over its more than a century of existence. The garden’s nine pavilions are arranged in the shape of a flower. Among them: rose gardens, rock gardens, alleys with plants prevailing in the Czech Republic;
• Liberec Zoo (the oldest in the Czech Republic), which recently celebrated its centenary, is proud of its collection of hundreds of species of animals, birds and reptiles. Its inhabitants come from different parts of the world: giraffes, zebras, Bengal tigers and elephants, chimpanzees, flamingos, pheasants;
• Liberec Castle (from the 16th century);
• Waldstein houses (17th century). Waldstein houses – this is how everyone should see this rarity. Because these are the oldest houses of the burghers in Liberec . The cute log houses, which are pressed against each other, are a direct testimony of how the cloth workers, for whom the houses were built, lived in the past. They got their name from Albrecht von Wallenstein (Waldstein), despite the fact that they arose long after his death. The oldest of them dates back to 1678, the most recent was only three years later, when Albrecht von Wallenstein was killed in 1634. As a true ruler, he liked to dress up, so he surrounded himself with numerous wives of craftsmen – hence the Waldstein houses;
• Church of Anthony the Great (16th century);
• Grabstein Castle rises near the town of Liberec on a steep rock. A park with a beautiful linden avenue spread around. The medieval castle in Gothic and Renaissance style is crowned by a round observation tower, and luxurious interiors are dedicated to different eras;
• The Liberec Town Hall (19th century – Neo-Renaissance architecture) is an ancient symbol of Liberec (65 m), from which you can see the old city center as if in the palm of your hand. Inside, it is worth visiting the trophy room, the Knight’s Hall and the Portrait Hall. The town hall was built according to the project of the architect Franz Neumann. He was a resident of Vienna, so if the town hall in Liberec reminds someone of the town hall in the Austrian capital, then at least now it is clear why. The building itself has 80 rooms, a total of three excursion routes are open to tourists, including a view of the town hall tower, which offers the city and its surroundings from a different perspective. Visitors can also inspect the clock mechanism at the town hall;
• Severocheska Museum;
• The Ještěd TV Tower (located on the peak of the mountain of the same name is a symbol of Liberec) is a business card of the city of Liberec, which cuts through the clouds with its spire at a kilometer height. After climbing the cable car to the top of the mountain, you should have dinner in a restaurant, admire the amazing view of the city, and, if you wish, stay in the local hotel;

The closest airport to Liberec is Prague.
