Janske-Lazny is one of the most popular resort towns in the country. All because it is not only an excellent medical resort with healing thermal springs, but also one of the best ski resorts in the Czech Republic , the only one located in the Krkonoše mountain range.
Local residents often call Janske-Lazny “the gates of Krkonoše”. After all, it is located precisely in the foothills of this huge mountain massif, at the foot of the famous Black Mountain. The Janske-Lazny thermal resort and various health resorts are located in the center of the small town of the same name. The resort is located practically on the border with neighboring Poland.
Currently, Janske Lazne has turned into a well-known sports center, one of the best in the Czech Republic, where there is an opportunity to practice sports throughout the year. The Janske Lazni ski resort is part of a large sports ski complex in the Eastern Giant Mountains. The skiing area in the sports region is connected by a general ski pass.
The ski slopes of the sports center are considered to be one of the longest in the Czech Republic. The main slopes are equipped with snow cannons and treated with snow plows. The resort has trails for both families and extreme skiers. A fifty-kilometer running track and a three-kilometer toboggan track have been built in the complex.
The mountain air, a beautiful park, the wonderful nature reserve Krkonoše, as well as the beautiful architecture of the resort complement the wonderful vacation experience.
How to get there
The best way to get to Janske-Lazna is by car, in the direction of Trutnov and Svoboda nad Upoy. There are also regular flights directly to the center of Janske-Lazny from Chornoy Most, Ledec nad Sazava or Trutnov, with a further transfer, e.g. from Brno, Ostrava or Hradec Kralove. You can get to Trutnov by train, and then take local buses. At the same time, there are free and very frequent ski buses from Janske-Lazny to Pecs pod Snezka.
The center of Janske-Lazny is small, but you will find everything you need there
Climate of the resort
Since the resort is located quite high – 1299 meters above sea level, the climate here is mountainous and quite cool compared to the rest of the Czech Republic. The average temperature in winter is 0 degrees.
The ski season starts here in December and lasts until March.
Tracks and lifts
There are many ski trails of varying degrees of difficulty, as well as cross-country ski trails, which are regularly serviced during the season. On the tracks and in the surrounding area, you will meet not only Czechs, but also Poles and Germans. Janske-Lazny is located close to the border, so it is an ideal place for people from border regions. Workers on the tracks, in restaurants or hotels mostly speak all these languages.
Black Mountain
The Janske Lazni complex includes 13 ski slopes, a ski track and a toboggan run. The ski tracks are located on the southern and southeastern slopes of the neighboring Svetlai and Chornaya mountains. Among them are black tracks with a length of 1600 and 2600 m for extreme skiers, red tracks with a length of 1100, 1400 and 1800 m, and blue tracks with a length of 200 to 600 m for beginner skiers.
The largest ski resort in the Czech Republic consists of five resorts and 44 km of slopes united by a single ski pass. Easy and gentle slopes in Cherny Dula or Svoboda-nad-UPO.
Also try the longest, up to three kilometers, tracks on Black Mountain. From there you can move to Pec pod Sněžkou, where there is a unique Funline slope with steep turns and an 8-meter tunnel, as well as a giant slalom course.
The largest of the five ski resorts ČERNÁ HORA – PEC. Here you will find a modern 6-seater chairlift (seats with heating and windproof caps) HOFMANKY EXPRESS, which is the fastest in the Czech Republic.
The resort of Černá hora (Janské Lázně) is popular thanks to the only 8-person lift cabin in the Czech Republic called ČERNOHORSKÝ EXPRESS. Both lifts have nearby parking lots.
The longest slope is 3 km. On the timed giant slalom course (MS2), you can measure your speed.
The resort has three children’s playgrounds: LIVE Formans park, equipped with “magic carpets” and LIVE park Černá hora with children’s carousels. There are ski schools for beginners SkiResort Live. The ski school office is located near the lower area of the lift. The third zone for beginners is the small slopes of Sport 1 and 2 on the top of Black Mountain near Sokolsky Budo.
Černá hora (Janské Lázně) is connected to the Pec pod Sněžkou ski area using SkiTours and then the SkiTour Express ski bus.
Changes were also made to the blue trunk line. Thanks to this, you can reach the Cherny-Dul district from the Hofmanky Express stop in 10 minutes.
Enjoy night skiing on the 1.6 km Proljot ski slope, the longest illuminated ski slope in the Czech Republic.
In this area, there is one ski pass for the entire ski route. There is a special rate for evening skiing.
Resort ČERNÁ HORA – PEC (Janské Lázně).
Lifts start working from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., then at 5:30 p.m. The Hofmanky Express chairlift, Prolez and 7 rope lifts are operating, with a capacity of 11,000 people per hour.
The total length of all ski slopes is more than 17 km. They are located at an altitude of 200 to 2600 meters. Černá hora and Formanek parks in Janske-Lazna are open.
Night skating in Prosese from 18.00 to 21.00, free parking in the evening from 17.00 to 22.00 at the central parking lot. Tracks for cross-country skiing about 50 km long. and 3.5 km for the toboggan.
The slopes of the Janske Lazni ski resort are mostly gentle. There are no “black” tracks for professionals, but a large number of training grounds have been prepared for training beginners and children.
The second largest ski resort is PEC (Pec pod Sněžkou), which is connected to the Black Mountain ski resort thanks to SkiTour.
Entertainment and active recreation
The wonderful infrastructure of the village is surprising. A large parking lot near the lift landing, a free bus to the funicular and many hotels with all amenities allow you to start a day of skiing in peace.
The official hotel of the Omnia resort offers not only comfort and coziness, but also a swimming pool, tennis court, sauna and other entertainment, and the Ford Bar restaurant chain allows you to enjoy the mountain scenery from the open terrace. The design of the village’s hotels and restaurants is made in various styles characteristic of Czech architecture.
The kitchen in the eateries on the mountain is presented with dishes that will not force vacationers to waste time waiting for cooking. Fried sausages and potatoes, pizza, hot sandwiches together with warming mulled wine or beer allow you to quickly satisfy your hunger.
In winter, Janske-Lazny is an ideal paradise for skiers and tourists. Snow mostly appears here around November and lasts until about March. There is a large complex of ski slopes, lifts and cable cars. And if you are not a fan of winter sports, there are plenty of activities for you too, so you will definitely not be bored!
And if you wanted to take a day off from skiing, I recommend visiting the Path in the Treetops . This is a sequence with the so-called a series of trails in the clouds. This is a tall wooden tower, which at its highest point reaches a height of 45 m, i.e. treetops or even higher. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings and at the same time learn something about Czech forests, trees and nature with the help of interactive questions. For children, there are several “parking lots” with quizzes. In summer you can go down a long hill, in winter you only need to go on foot.
In addition to skiing at the resort, you can also ride a bike on one of the numerous bike trails, play mini golf and swim in the pool.
Also, do not miss the opportunity to visit the local places. First of all, go to the Krkonoše National Park, which is located nearby and is a nature reserve protected by the state.
If you like painting, then you must go to Gostinne – it is a former Franciscan church, which today houses an exhibition of classical art.
There are many hotels and restaurants in the city center, so everyone will choose. We recommend the restaurant right next to the exit from the Treetop Trail, where you will find both Czech and international cuisine at reasonable prices.
In addition, in the center there is a very beautiful cafe from the time of the First Republic (not far from the bus station). If you plan to stay in Janske-Lazna for more than 2 days, book a hotel in advance. During the season, the best hotels near the ski slopes and in the city center are immediately occupied.
