The ski complex of Folgaria, Lavarone is considered the largest of all the famous resorts in the Dolomites. The resort is located 15 km from Trento , it has repeatedly taken the first positions in the rating for the beauty of the landscapes and excellent infrastructure. Folgaria, Lavarone is also known for its rich cultural heritage. A huge advantage of the area is that you can settle in any skiing area. This ski resort is extremely popular with freeriders, as it is the only area without the threat of avalanches. In addition to ski tracks of all levels of difficulty, with a total length of more than 100 km, there is a snow park, as well as ski schools.

This is one of the largest skiing areas in the Dolomites, which is why it is well-deservedly popular – however, mainly among Italian tourists.

In the national ranking of the Touring Club Italiano, the resort of Folgaria – Lavarone has taken first positions more than once. He was awarded them for excellent tourist winter infrastructure and the beauty of the surrounding landscape. From a historical point of view, the region became famous for the fortresses and castles of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, behind which ski tours are now arranged.

In addition, this part of the Trentino region is famous for the unique culture of the Cimbri people: they have preserved their language and try to stay away from the influence of their neighbors.

Those tourists who want to relax at the resort and live directly in the skiing area should settle in the villages of Folgaria, Lavarone, Fiorentini and Serrada. Nearby you can find the settlements of Carbonare (located between Folgaria and Lavarone), as well as Lucerne (Luserna) and Passo Vezza (Passo Vezzena) – next to the village of Lavarone. In general, about a hundred hotels, residences and apartments operate in the region.

In addition to skiing, cross-country skiing is extremely popular in Folgaria-Lavarone in winter. The Millegrobbe ski center provides 35 kilometers on the Lavarone plateau and is considered one of the best in the world. There are two ski centers around Folgaria: Forte Cherle (12 kilometers of skiing) and Passo Coe (45 kilometers). Together, Folgaria and Lavarone regularly host world cross-country skiing competitions on their tracks.

The Folgaria – Lavarone ski resort is located in the Dolomites di Brenta mountains, 15 kilometers south of the city of Trento. The combined skiing area of ​​these two resorts is called Ski Tour dei Forti. It is one of the largest in this part of the Italian Alps and is suitable for skiers and snowboarders of any level.

Ski Tour dei Forti includes about 80 kilometers of ski tracks in the neighboring resorts of Folgaria and Lavarone, which are not connected by tracks or lifts. You can move between them only by road or on foot. The slopes of both resorts are equipped with snow guns, which guarantees a stable snow cover throughout the season. The resort is served by 35 lifts – mostly chairlifts.

In general, the skiing area of ​​Folgaria looks more interesting than the neighboring Lavarone. There are much more tracks here, and they are better connected by lifts. Accommodation and apres-ski options are also more diverse here.

Almost 40% of easy tracks in Ski Tour dei Forti. Beginners will find it more interesting in the skiing area of ​​Folgaria, where there are quite a lot of “blue” tracks. The Fiorentini skating area is especially worth paying attention to. There are only two “blue” slopes in the neighboring resort – one descends from the top of the mountain to the village of Lavarone, the other is paved on the slope of Passo Vezza. Professional instructors will help those who already know how to ski and snowboard, as well as improve their technique. Ski schools can be found at all starting areas.

“Red” tracks are abundantly represented in Folgaria and Lavarone – more than 50% in total. There are also “black” slopes at both resorts. However, the most interesting routes of the region are laid in Folgaria. Among them is the new, weathered “red” Tul di Sirada, 1,006 meters long, with steep and gentle sections and picturesque views all around. However, comfortable skiing on it is possible only for experienced skiers and snowboarders. The famous “black” Zalizzona di Fondo Grande is regularly used for professional competitions.

Folgaria – Lavarone offers excellent opportunities for freeriding. There is no danger of avalanches here, and the spaces for skiing in the wilderness are impressive in their variety. That is why freestylers are recommended to leave well-maintained trails only accompanied by guides who will take them along interesting routes, prevent them from getting lost and come to help if necessary. In addition, for the first hours of skiing in the wilderness, it is advisable to hire an instructor who will teach specific skiing techniques.

On the territory of Fondo Piccolo in the Folgaria zone at an altitude of 550 meters, the Matsinga snow park is arranged annually.

There are playgrounds at the foot of all slopes, so the kids will also have a lot of fun at the resort.

A proven skier, speaking of Folgaria, will first of all remember its wise tracks, the most interesting of which is Salizzona. A wide slope in the form of a giant letter S, more than a kilometer long, connects Cima Dosso and the Folgaria plateau with a double bend. The slope is moderately steep – you will descend 312 meters. But if you decide to drive along this “red” route from the beginning to the very end, be prepared for surprises. Salizzona has a very unstable character, which guarantees this adrenaline ride: the terrain and the angle of inclination change all the time. Not only a breath-taking descent awaits you, but also a small journey into the past: along the route there are preserved forts from the time of the First World War. There is always excellent snow on the entire slope, because even if the weather presents an unpleasant surprise, numerous snow cannons will come to the rescue. So it’s no wonder that international competitions are constantly held on this track, the first giant slalom tournaments – the legendary 3Tre – were held here. However, if you feel that you are not yet ready for such an adventure, there is an easier route that descends from the mountain nearby, parallel to Salizzona.

There are also circular routes in Folgaria , such as the 125-kilometer “Skitour dei Forti” and the 100-kilometer “Ski Folgaria”. How long it takes you to ride them depends only on your skill level. You won’t waste a single extra second on the lifts: the newest high-speed lifts are installed throughout the Folgaria ski area, and there can be no queues. These state-of-the-art four-seater chairlifts will get you to the top in minutes!

Those who are able to get to know the various routes of Folgaria quickly enough should buy a Superskirama ski pass, which allows you to ski on the slopes of a dozen surrounding resorts and move between them on a ski bus. And local tracks will be enough for beginners for a long time. Beginner athletes will slowly master the wisdom of skiing under the guidance of experienced teachers from numerous schools, who are ready to teach everyone from small to large. Special instructors-educators with the help of fun games will put your children on skis very quickly, so do not be surprised if very soon the heirs will start to ski much more confidently than you.

If most adults would prefer to relax in the sauna after skiing, then young skiers are in vain: they also need active rest in the evenings. Folgaria will be able to satisfy everyone’s wishes, because the resorts have beautiful spa centers, skating rinks, and many other entertainments for people of any age. And someone may want to change the mountain scenery to wooded plains and go cross-country skiing around Millegrobe, Passo Descho or Forte Kerle.

The road to Folgaria will not tire even the smallest children. From the airports of Verona, Bergamo, Venice and Treviso, it is very convenient to get to this area on a special Fly ski shuttle bus. The ticket costs 18 euros, round-trip – 30 euros, and if the child is under 12 years old and accompanied by two adults, then he can travel with you absolutely free.
