Explore the Grandeur of Versailles Royalty
Ah, France! Land of romance, croissants, and bucket-list hotels calling our names. Join me on my latest escapade, driven by the desire to step foot in one particular Parisian gem we’ve been eyeing for what feels like eons.
Now, don’t get too cozy because we’ll be diving into a whirlwind adventure featuring airlines like Air France and United, plus some jaw-dropping hotels. Sit tight as I spill the beans on the basics of our journey, and brace yourself for a series of in-depth reports over the coming weeks.
So, Why Did We Take This Trip?
Picture this: A last-minute dash to pack our bags, and suddenly, we’re off to France! Ford was itching for travel, and with a free weekend coinciding with Valentine’s Day, it seemed like the universe was saying, “Go forth and explore!”
The true allure, though? A dreamy luxury hotel experience that’s been waiting in the wings for us. Meet Airelles, the crème de la crème of boutique luxury hotels in my humble opinion. Their properties aren’t just about beddings and silverware; they’re about crafting an experience. We’ve graced places like Les Airelles Courchevel and Airelles Saint-Tropez, yet the crown jewel awaited us: Airelles Château de Versailles. Nestled within the legendary Versailles grounds, who could resist?
Lucky stars! The hotel reservation fairy blessed us with available rooms. Add in some nifty airline award tricks, and voila, a perfectly orchestrated plan came to life. With just four flights spanning 10,619 miles, this jaunt was surprisingly smooth sailing.
The Airlines We Flew On
My travel complex comes with a side of indulgence — three airline tickets to craft a journey Ford and I could both enjoy. Together, we set off on Air France’s Boeing 777-300ER in their sublime La Premiere first class. Trust me, it’s a treat. And yes, they tussle over first-class seats, so having an elusive Flying Blue Platinum membership helped.
- 2/15: Miami to Paris – Air France’s Boeing 777-300ER La Premiere first class
- 2/19: Paris to Vienna – Air France’s Airbus A220-300 in business class
Feeling a bit of wanderlust myself, I tacked on a few extra segments. Vienna to DC with Austrian’s Boeing 787-9 in style, then United’s bright and spiffy Boeing 737 MAX 8 flew me down to Miami.
- 2/20: Vienna to Washington – Austrian’s Boeing 787-9 business class
- 2/20: Washington to Miami – United’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 first class
Oh, and a little heads-up: While lounges weren’t our primary focus this time around, the Air France La Premiere first class arrivals lounge in Paris deserves a shoutout, with its recent unveiling.
The Hotels That Hosted Our Excursion
We kicked things off at the magical Airelles Château de Versailles, indulging in two nights of pure opulence. It’s not just a stay; it’s an audacious mix of history and whimsy where you might get called “king” just after sunrise, all with enchanting touches befitting royalty.
Next, the city of lights beckoned us to its embrace. Paris is the battleground for luxury hotels, and each spot valiantly competes to capture your affections. This time, our curiosity (and maybe a dash of vanity) pulled us into the Bulgari Paris. A plush stay with a touch of idolization — and who wouldn’t be at a place imbued with luxury fashion vibes?
The final chapter unfolded in Vienna, where I decided to stroll down memory lane at the Park Hyatt Vienna, to see how well it had aged since my last visit.
Final Thoughts…
Our French fling wasn’t about rigid itineraries but rather an organic exploration of what called out to us — a hotel we’d dreamt of for years. And in the process, I had the chance to tick off some long-awaited flight experiences. Stay poised for the coming delve into these adventures, with the promise of tales from our latest jaunt to Japan not far behind.
