Dear readers, friends, and travelers, today we’d like to begin our article series “Inspiring People.” In this series, we’ll occasionally introduce you to people who inspire us with their lives (and their journeys), a text, a video, or something else entirely.

We’re starting today with a video by Julia Engelmann. Last year, a video of hers made the news and garnered a lot of attention from TV and the press. Rightly so, we think! With self-written texts, eight slammers from across Germany had well over 1,000 spectators laughing, cheering, groaning, yelling, applauding, and reflecting at the 5th Bielefeld Lecture Hall Slam on May 7, 2013, in the Audimax at Bielefeld University.

The fantastic slammers Jan Philipp Zymny, Florian Cieslik, Frank Klötgen, Julia Engelmann, Christian Ritter, Annalouise Falk, Micha-El Goehre, and Gerrit Wilanek competed in the artistic competition. Julia Engelmann was the most polarizing. Her text got under the skin, shook the audience awake, and never left. We, too, are captivated by her words, because they unite what we feel and what we intend to do: “Come on, let’s just do it now!”

We simply did it, set out to discover new things. And no one can take that time away from us now. Stories have emerged that we’ll be happy to tell later. You can read all of our adventures here: Travel reports and stories.

Julia Engelmann – One day, baby, we’ll be old!”
