Local residents jokingly say that to see all of Croatia, it is enough to visit the city of Dubrovnik . Indeed, everything that the Balkan country is proud of is concentrated here – amazing landscapes, ancient architecture, the cleanest beaches and restaurants with a large selection of local and European cuisine. The most interesting way to travel to Dubrovnik is by water, sea connections have been established with all populated areas of the country that have a port, as well as with some European cities.
When going on a trip, be sure to take a map with a photo and description of the sights of Dubrovnik , because the resort is not only the city, but also the nearby peninsulas.
Local colorful brochures advertise Dubrovnik as “the only one”, there is no exaggeration in this slogan, because the city is rightfully considered the most beautiful in the Balkans and is included in the list of the most beautiful resorts in Europe. According to statistics, more than a million tourists come here to rest every year.
The city is located in Southern Dalmatia , near the border with Montenegro . From a distance, Dubrovnik makes a rather strong impression – its streets are surrounded by a powerful giant wall, thanks to which it was never captured during military operations.
The main resort city of the Adriatic Sea is included in the list of European monuments of the Renaissance.
The city of Dubrovnik is divided into 35 districts, where about 47 thousand people live. The most visited is the Old part, where the largest number of sights are concentrated.
Interest in the resort is also due to the comfortable climate – the average annual temperature is +17 degrees, and in summer the sun shines for 12.5 hours every day. There is practically no snow in winter.
Around the city there are many islands to which ferries and pleasure boats depart regularly. A favorite vacation spot for tourists with children is the botanical garden and beaches on the island of Lokrum .

Several fountains in the city were built under his leadership. The water supply system stretched for 12 km, and the maximum height difference is 106 m. The end point of the aqueducts – the Great Onufria Fountain is located on Milicevitsa Square , and the Small Fountain – not far from the guard house.

The small palace served as a source of drinking water for the princely palace.

Korčula Island
Local residents call Korčula a mini-Dubrovnik , it is the most populated island in Croatia. In translation, the name means Black Island , most likely because of the dark massifs of pine forests that cover most of it. The world center of winemaking is concentrated here, as Korčula has everything necessary for growing vineyards. Even the most demanding gourmets will appreciate the taste and aroma of local wines.
In the middle of summer, a brightly theatrical performance of moreshka is held here – a knightly dance known since the 15th century. The men change into old, knightly clothes and arrange a competition for the heart of the princess.

The first mentions date back to 1023, when a Benedictine monastery was founded here, monks cultivated exotic and rare plants. The monks left the island at the end of the 18th century. The distance between the island and Dubrovnik is 700 m, so the connection is permanent.
You can get to Lokrum by private water taxi and by public transport, which departs every hour from the Old Town. The ticket price is HRK 120 – this includes a ferry ride and a walk around the island. The journey takes a quarter of an hour.

This fortification is built on a rock 37 meters high, the slopes of which are very steep and completely overgrown with thorn bushes. In the 11th century, the fortress was built to protect the western approaches to the city. Over many centuries, the building has been reconstructed and changed, but the inscription on the gate, which says – freedom cannot be sold for treasures, remains unchanged.
Together with the city wall, the fort forms a powerful defense from the sea. A picturesque view of the old part of the city opens from the walls of the fortress. Some scenes of the TV series “Game of Thrones” were filmed in this fort.
Theater productions are held here in the evenings, tickets can be purchased directly on the spot, their cost is quite affordable.
General information about the beaches of the resort
The sea near the local coast is crystal clear, like a baby’s tears. Nature has preserved its originality, so do not be surprised by the large amount of greenery in which the beaches are literally drowning. The pine forests that frame the shore of the Adriatic make the local islands of rest near the water look like an oasis. Imagine the sea on one side and the forest on the other. Pine trees have a beneficial effect on the human body, firstly, they improve well-being, secondly, they calm down, and thirdly, they make breathing easier. Already on the third day of rest on the local beaches, you will feel special. What can we say about the Croatian service, and even more so in Dubrovnik . After all, the terracotta beaches of the resort allowed Dubrovnik to enter the five leaders of the Mediterranean with the most beautiful and clean beaches.
The local shore is not only beautiful, but also very diverse in terms of its coverage and equipment, so every vacationer in Dubrovnik can find a place that he is used to while relaxing by the water. The resort has a lot of sandy beaches, which is a great joy for tourists who love to sunbathe on the sandy “feather”. Since childhood, the sea has been associated with small pebbles, do you like basking in the sun while sorting through pebbles?
And for you in Dubrovnik there will be a cozy piece of beach with such a coating. You are a child of the new century, and therefore you want the entrance to the sea to be paved with the best covering by human hands, and the deck chair to be equipped with the best orthopedic mattress? In Dubrovnik, you will also find such – these are the so-called platform beaches, which are scattered here. Do you like to rest by the water, but not lying down, but actively, getting your body in shape or enjoying games, music, dancing? And such options for sea recreation are available in Dubrovnik . Play slides, diving schools, water sports, shows on the shore, disco on the sand – all this is in abundance at the resort.
There is no need to talk about the quality of sea water, there are only a few such places left on the planet.
Lapad beach
Of course, every vacationer in Dubrovnik is interested in the question, which beach is the best in the resort? There can be no consensus here, as you understand, as some like pebbles, others like sand. Some like noisy entertainment, others – corners hidden from the human eye. How can you say unequivocally what is considered the most suitable for you. In the meantime, you can try, based on the number of opinions, to make some kind of analysis on attendance, and you decide whether the majority is right.
So, the most popular beach in Dubrovnik is called Lapad, and at the same time it is also the largest of its kind in the resort. The “feature” of this coastline is a combination of pebble and sand cover. There is no need to talk about the excellent infrastructure. Showers, changing rooms, a lot of entertainment for all ages, deck chairs with mattresses, umbrellas, cozy cafes and scattered shops – all this is not uncommon in Croatia, but a mandatory feature of virtually any beach. So you don’t have to worry about the service, no matter where you are. As for Lapad, it stands out not only among the beaches of Dubrovnik , but also the country as a whole, as it is the longest sandy beach in Croatia.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the sand is concentrated at the water’s edge, and the farther from the sea, the more pebbles – snow-white, fine, beautiful and pleasant to the touch. There are always a lot of lifeguards on the beach, who keep a close eye on the coastline and waves of the Adriatic. As a rule, everything on the beach is free, except that you may be charged a symbolic amount of $1 for a sunbed with an umbrella. In general, it is worth noting that the Lapad Peninsula is a whole series of beaches that captivate with their beauty and service. So feel free to choose any, you won’t lose.
Cava beach
Kava beach cannot be called the largest or the most fashionable, but it is, according to many tourists who appreciate natural beauty, the most beautiful, and wildly beautiful. Cava is framed like a precious necklace by rocky mountains. The sea here is the calmest, and the entrance is the gentlest among its kind in Dubrovnik. The whimsical indentation of the coastline allows sunbathing fans to easily find such cozy towns among the rocks that their desire to sunbathe without a swimsuit will remain a mystery to other vacationers. On the beach, all services are free, with the exception of umbrellas and sunbeds, but the price for using these things is quite modest, not exceeding a dollar. The beach has free parking, which will be important news for those traveling by car. They say that Kava takes the most beautiful photos from vacations, because he is amazingly handsome.
Copacabana Beach
In the northern part of the famous Lapad Peninsula, there is a beach that is appreciated by vacationers with limited mobility, as well as fans of active pastime. Yes, in Copacabana there will be a place for everyone, from wheelchair users who can go straight down to the waves without help, from babies playing safely on a long line of gentle coastline, to young people who love dancing on the sand, to families who love quiet cafes at the very edge of the sea, and active single tourists who go crazy for various water activities, such as kayaking, water skiing, parasailing.
Copacabana beach needs no advertising. Welcome to the turquoise Eden, equipped with everything you can dream of.
Banje Beach
The “king” among pebbly beaches is undoubtedly Banje, which is spread out right at the eastern gate of the Old Town. If you want to spend the morning in the sun and water, and use the heat to explore the sights of Dubrovnik , then, after a delicious meal in one of the colorful taverns, return to the shore again, then you will not find a better place than Banje to fulfill such a plan for the day. As you understand, the local atmosphere is special, because on one side the beach is neighbors with historical monuments, and on the other – a turquoise sea “paradise”. By the way, on the territory of Banye you can meet celebrities, ranging from artists or film actors to politicians and athletes. Here, the “cream” of world society likes to bask in the sun. And you have a chance to become the owner of the autograph of your idol.
Uvala beach
Welcome to the territory of Uvala. Local orange-colored sand, crystal clear, soft blue water, a lot of greenery – all this creates a special atmosphere for relaxation, self-immersion, relaxation and passive rest. However, lovers of active entertainment have something to pay attention to here. Uvala has a surf club, as well as a water entertainment center, including a children’s playground. So families with different approaches to a beach vacation can come to Uvala together – each member of the family will find something to do. The “feature” of the beach is the presence of an amazingly beautiful fountain, located a couple of hundred meters from the shoreline. Nearby there is a whole kaleidoscope of souvenir shops and colorful cafes that treat you with “gifts of the sea”. Some families spend the whole day at Uvala, because when the sun is particularly active, you can move to the shade and have a delicious meal, then choose souvenirs, admire the fountain and return to the magical waves again. The location of the golden “oasis” is the bay of the Lapad peninsula.
Sveti Jakov beach
Another worthy place to relax by the water within the city limits and close to attractions is St. James Beach – a quiet place with great service and a romantic atmosphere near the Old Town. As a rule, couples in love like to go here to relax, and regardless of age and length of family life. The surface of the coastline is like lace “woven” from small white pebbles. However, be prepared for the fact that the descent to the beach is a long flight of stairs, so it can be difficult for children and elderly vacationers to overcome such a path. However, it is pleasing that you won’t have to travel here and there for a portion of something delicious, there are several decent cafes and bars downstairs, where you can not only enjoy ice cream, but also have a full dinner.
Beach Buja
User
The most unusual beach and embankment of Dubrovnik, some photos of which surprise and delight at the same time. It should be noted right away that children, elderly or injured people, travelers for whom a sea vacation is impossible without sunbeds and umbrellas should not go here. Buža is a unique place in Croatia, a rocky beach that is ideal for lovers of romance and extreme.
Buja is hidden from the eyes of a simple passerby. To get to the picturesque cliffs, from which you can dive into the clearest sea, you need to go around the main Dubrovnik Cathedral on the left side and enter the inconspicuous door of St. Stephen , located in the southern wall of the Old Town. Through them, you will go not only to the beach, but also to the cafe of the same name with low prices and delicious drinks.
Stikovitsa beach
If you want to stay in a hotel in Dubrovnik with its own beach, you will be offered the most options in Stikovice, as there are 3 hotels of different classes here. Due to its distance from the city center (more than 15 km), Stikovitsa is not very popular among tourists, so it is distinguished by exceptional cleanliness and a calm atmosphere. The infrastructure on the beach is at an average level of development – here you can rent umbrellas (12 HRK) and sunbeds (18 HRK), play water football, enjoy the aroma of a coniferous forest.
Nudist beaches
Some tourists go to Croatia primarily because of the opportunity to enjoy a sea vacation in complete harmony with nature – without bathing suits and shame. Are there similar places in Dubrovnik ? Of course! Make your way to Lokrum , a picturesque island drenched in greenery, home to a number of such free beach getaways. You can get to Lokrum by boat that departs from the resort’s old port.
What is interesting on the beaches of Lokrum, apart from the opportunity to play without anything and incredible natural beauty? First of all, diving centers, since the area here is mostly steep rocks. Secondly, an amazing park in which exotic plants “live”, the existence and whimsical forms of which you did not even suspect. you will find the most isolated places on Lokrum in its eastern part.
Amazing interweaving of wild nature and service exceeding all expectations is the “calling card” of Dubrovnik’s beaches .

Dubrovnik’s inexpensive cafes are open all year round: they only raise prices slightly in the summer months.
The location of the city on the seashore had a significant impact on the menu of restaurants in Dubrovnik . The cuisine of the region is full of seafood and fish dishes, and oysters from the bay and eels from the Neretva River are considered the most exquisite delicacy . In general, the cuisine of the city and region can be called traditional and not spicy. The dishes are mostly Italian and national.

In the “Irish Pub” cafe, the interior in the colors of a traditional shamrock, proven recipes, a wide list of drinks, tart Irish whiskey, numerous types of beer and the democratic mood of the owners and guests await visitors. Restaurant Gil’s cuisine & pop lounge
Food, as an object of art, as the main element of a whole creative ritual, theatrical action, this is how you can describe the form of serving dishes in the famous Dubrovnik restaurant Gil’s cuisine & pop lounge.
The snow-white stone island is located in the interweaving of the central streets of the Old Town, a five-minute walk from the sea line, next to the lively Plaza. The popular establishment welcomes its guests with the graceful restraint of the waiters and the sophisticated French menu in the style of fusion.
Gil’s cuisine & pop lounge restaurant was recognized as the best restaurant in Croatia in 2012.
Chef Gilles Camillieri takes it upon himself to guess and give everyone exactly the taste experiences that he lacks: gazpacho, numerous sauces, wonderful shrimp, dessert compositions – this is just the minimum that is worth trying in this restaurant in Dubrovnik .
The price category of the restaurant is above average. A colorful menu, a unique location add to the possibility of pleasant communication, because Gil’s cuisine & pop lounge is always crowded.
Restaurant Lokanda Peskarija
Endless seascapes and walks in the colorful places of Croatian nature can also be tiring. You can relax even while moving away from the sea. Literally in the harbor itself, under the city walls, there is a wonderful corner – Lokanda Peskarija restaurant.
Lokanda Peskarija is a small, family-run restaurant that offers its visitors simple hearty food, homely comfort and reasonable prices. Mussels, shrimps, octopus salads, in combination with the sea view, create a special mood, the atmosphere of old Dubrovnik . Not the most diverse menu is revealed in complete harmony of taste and performance.
The establishment is considered one of the best restaurants in Dubrovnik offering fish dishes. And sitting right at the table on the summer terrace, and looking at the water surface, it is quite possible to combine satisfying hunger and making plans for the day, for example, deciding on a sea trip in boats around Lokrum Island.
Restaurant “Klarisa”
Some restaurants in Croatia preserve the memory of historical events that took place in the country. “Klarisa” in Dubrovnik is one of them. It is located in the former monastery of St. Clare , which was built in the 13th century. It is believed that in 1432, the first orphanage in Europe was created here. But in 1806, the French came here and abolished the monastery.
The restaurant in the former monastery appeared after the Second World War under the name Jadran , then Libertas and later – Klarisa .
The establishment has a small but well-chosen menu. The best tables are located in the courtyard of the former monastery. Chef Stjepo Cvjetković prepares European cuisine for guests. We recommend trying local desserts.
