And again and again, our hearts leap as soon as we set foot on German soil. Germany! We love our homeland. It’s more diverse than ever, yet we often pay far too little attention to it. After all, we were born and raised here; it’s just normal. But have we ever taken the time to take a closer look at our own country? We have mountains, rivers, lakes, islands, vibrant metropolises, sleepy villages, and a wealth of culture!
It’s so quick and easy to travel across the country, and even neighboring countries are just a stone’s throw away. Germany has frosty winters and hot summers. We experience spring and autumn. We often miss the seasons when we’re traveling around the world and only have to deal with the dry or rainy seasons. This year we want to see much more of Germany!

Here you can find our travel tips for Germany
The Sea
We confess – we love the north! Whether Baltic Sea or North Sea – look at how beautiful Germany is. In summer, we take the train directly to the sea in Warnemünde – this is where we love it the most. Besides fish sandwiches, lighthouses, fishing boats, and soft sand between your toes, it’s more than bearable here. Germany is an absolute top destination in summer!
The Mountains
Germany’s nature is stunning, but many people don’t even know it. Whether it’s the Alps, the Brocken, Watzmann, Feldberg, or Katzenbuckel—our homeland has plenty of mountains to offer. And how wonderful is it to hike through these landscapes with your better half? Finally, get off the couch and out into nature. The next vacation is sure to come, and why not head to the mountains?
The Islands
Admittedly, we won’t find a tropical island in Germany. Nevertheless, our country has a whole host of islands to offer: Usedom, Rügen, Fischland, Juist, Sylt, Borkum, Poel, Fehmarn, Norderney, and Hiddensee (and more). So why not use your free time to drive to the seaside? It doesn’t always have to be a long-distance trip or a trip to another European country. Our homeland rocks!
The Landscapes
Sun, sea, mountains, river valleys, lakes, plains, snow, historic sites, sleepy villages – Welcome to Germany. Lake Constance, the Siebengebirge, the Bavarian Forest, Neuschwanstein Castle, Berchtesgadener Land, the Thuringian Forest, the Harz Mountains, alpine pastures… oh, the list is endless. Germany offers a diversity we don’t even appreciate. It’s time to discover our homeland with all its facets and colors!
The Metropolises
Berlin, Mon Amour! We love Berlin, because no other city in Germany is as young, colorful, wild, and funky. Here, the clocks tick differently; everyone lives the way they want to. Cool cafés, crazy clubs, an endless selection of fashion, crazy people, countless museums, and a diverse range of leisure activities. But Hamburg, Munich, Dresden, Leipzig, Cologne, and Düsseldorf are also cities you should definitely visit.
The Food
And let’s be honest – especially when you’re abroad for a long time, you tend to think about all the delicious dishes from home. Whole-grain bread, jam, potatoes, meat, pretzels, currywurst, solyanka, Thuringian dumplings, spaetzle, cocoa with cream, meatloaf with gravy, meatballs, potato dumplings, pancakes, rolls, or simply the huge selection of sweet treats. And let someone say we’re not “culinary”! Of course!
History
And let’s be honest with ourselves: when was the last time we dealt with the history of our homeland? Probably many years ago in history class at school, right? Yet there are countless museums and exhibitions in Germany on a wide variety of topics. Our homeland has a moving, albeit sometimes shocking, history behind it. We should invest much more time in understanding what defines our country and what happened in the past.
The Peculiarities
We Germans are anything but normal. And this is reflected in our peculiarities. We’re frugal, we can’t live without bread and potatoes, we enjoy playing cards, love Christmas markets, and have our own garden shed on the outskirts of town. We speak in dialects, place garden gnomes among the flowers, and separate our trash. We love punctuality and nudist beaches, and we swear a lot. We greet each other with: “Servus,” “Moin Moin,” “Ahoi,” “Grüß Gott,” or “Hey.” And? Does that make us any less cool? Absolutely not!
The Infrastructure
We live in a rich country! We can make inexpensive phone calls and surf the internet. We can get from point A to point B quickly by bus, train, car, rental car, bike, or plane. Culture and entertainment are catered for, and there’s no shortage of leisure activities in Germany either. We can’t really complain when it comes to traveling in Germany. We should take advantage of the benefits and spend “much more time in our own country.” There’s certainly still a lot to discover!
