The wonderful DOCK INN Container Hostel opened in Warnemünde in 2017. Naturally, we had to take a closer look, so we headed to the Baltic Sea. Here at the Warnemünde shipyard, you can see the many colorful containers that serve as accommodations from afar. This unique living concept is just a stone’s throw from the “Warnemünde Werft” S-Bahn station. Finally, Warnemünde in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has a hostel! Yay!!!

Anyone who has ever stayed overnight in Warnemünde knows how expensive it usually is up there, especially in the summer. It’s all the more wonderful that there’s now finally a fantastic alternative to expensive apartments, vacation homes, and hotels for those on a tight budget. It’s only a relaxing 10-15 minute walk to the beach, and just 20 minutes by S-Bahn to Rostock. Perfect location, right?

“At the DOCK INN Warnemünde, the adventures of the world’s oceans and the lifestyle of globetrotters, surfers, style enthusiasts, and adventurous families are anchored.”

Welcome to the DOCK INN Warnemünde

The DOCK INN is THE address for young and old. You feel more like you’re in a stylish hotel than a “hostel.” The lobby, with the reception, restaurant, and bar, is huge and open-plan. Cool industrial lights hang from the ceiling everywhere, and the decor is impressive.

There’s also a container for games (board games, card games, etc.), a music container with records, a small shop, the communal kitchen “Kombüse,” and plenty of cozy seating. You definitely don’t have to be alone here, but you’ll always find a quiet spot.

One floor up, the cool iMacs are ready for use; next door is the in-house cinema and a few arcade machines. The stylish hostel has a total of 42 double room containers, 2 suites, and 20 4-/8-bed dorms in shipping containers. The multi-bed containers all have a small anteroom with a couch, table, and chairs. This way, you won’t disturb anyone if you’re not ready for bed.

All rooms have a view of the harbor and shipyard, a private bathroom, toiletries, towels, and a TV. Another really cool feature is that the “Felshelden” bouldering hall is located right in the building. But that’s not all! There’s also a harbor sauna, washing machines and dryers, and parking spaces. The DOCK INN Warnemünde actually has everything you need in a hostel, right?

Cool rooms at the DOCK INN

We stayed in a beautiful double container room with a modern bathroom, TV, couch, and comfortable bed. We slept like logs here and had breakfast like kings in the morning. The food in the restaurant is generally really delicious. You can order tarte flambée, pizza, salads, pasta, and soups here.

To drink, there are various types of coffee, tea, soft drinks, regional juices, long drinks, beers, and much, much more. No one has to go hungry or thirsty here. The prices are also really reasonable and not too expensive. Soft drinks cost €2.50, a large latte macchiato, for example, costs €3.50, and long drinks are sometimes only €5 if you order two.

We also like to drop by just for fun because we find the location incredibly cool and cozy. The DOCK INN also always hosts really cool events, such as the musical Container Sessions, the fun pub quiz, or sushi courses. The best way to find out about the various events on offer is to visit the DOCK INN Facebook page or visit the website directly.

For us, the hostel is above all young, cool, and built with a love of design. You can simply feel at home here. Weather permitting, you can ride the cool rental bikes to the sea, along the coast, and back again. Or why not book an activity package with SUP, surfboards, beach soccer, volleyball, or climbing sessions? Everything to your liking.

From personal experience, we highly recommend the DOCK INN. The staff is super nice and friendly, the hostel is a real eye-catcher, and the surroundings are diverse. Especially in summer, it’s simply gorgeous up here on the Baltic Sea. Enjoy the weather on the beach, stroll along the beach promenade, and treat yourself to a delicious drink in the evening at Schusters Beach Bar.

Back at the DOCK INN, you can relax and unwind in the sauna or devour an exciting book in one of the comfortable armchairs. Find out what to do in Rostock and Warnemünde here. Double rooms start at just €29 per night per person. If you don’t mind sharing a shared room, you can get a room starting at just €19 per night (4- or 8-bed dorm). Suites and single rooms start at €49 per person per night. Breakfast costs only €7.90 per day and is truly varied and balanced.
