1. Canary Islands

Tired of the cold temperatures? Are you longing for sun, daylight, and the sea? In March, the Canary Islands enjoy a pleasant and warm climate with temperatures between 20 °C and 30 °C. This sounds perfect for exploring nature, relaxing on the beach, or enjoying outdoor activities.

Accommodation and flight prices are often cheaper in March than during peak season, and the islands aren’t overcrowded. We were recently on the island of Fuerteventura for two weeks in March (more to come) and enjoyed the weather to the fullest. We were able to swim in the sea, sunbathe, and explore the island in a super relaxed atmosphere.

Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro are also suitable for a trip in March. The combination of mild weather, fewer crowds, and a variety of activities makes the Canary Islands an optimal travel destination in March.

Quick Facts Canary Islands

  • Type of trip: Active, road trip, beach
  • Climate: 20 °C to 30 °C (depending on the island)
  • Price level: Expect approximately €100 to €200 per person per day (mid-range)

2. Lapland

Okay, so you were expecting destinations where it’s already nice and warm in March, right? But even the cold regions have their charm. We highly recommend a trip to northern Scandinavia, for example to Finnish Lapland. Snow-covered landscapes, with a bit of luck, the Northern Lights, rustic cabins with saunas, cozy campfires, and much more await you.

Lapland offers a variety of winter activities, including dog sledding, snowmobile tours, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. March offers ideal conditions for all of these activities. You can also look forward to longer days and more “pleasant” temperatures between -15 °C and 0 °C in March. So it’s not as freezing cold as in previous months.

  • Type of trip: Active, round trip, sightseeing, enjoyment
  • Climate: -15 °C to 0 °C (depending on the region)

3. Morocco

We also recommend a trip to Morocco in March. Why? Because temperatures are mild this month, averaging 20°C to 25°C in cities like Marrakech and Fez. The coast (around Essaouira and Agadir) is also pleasant, while the desert isn’t yet too hot. This is ideal for tours to Erg Chebbi or Merzouga.

Although March also marks the beginning of high season in Morocco, crowds are well spread out depending on the region. However, you should book your accommodations and certain activities in advance. We recommend a round trip through the great south or a road trip through the northern part of the country.
