We love South Africa and have been to this beautiful country 6 times ourselves. In April, the weather around Cape Town and the Garden Route is generally mild and pleasant, with daytime temperatures between 20°C and 25°C.

Trips to Kruger National Park are particularly suitable, as the vegetation thins out, making it easier to spot the animals. It’s also less oppressively hot, although it cools down considerably at night.

Since April is outside of peak season, many tourist hotspots are less crowded, allowing for a much more relaxed trip. Hotels and accommodations can often be cheaper during this time.

Japan is high on our list, but other countries are our priority for now. The best time to travel to Japan depends on the region, as the country is made up of different climate zones. In spring (March to June), many visitors come to Japan to marvel at the Japanese cherry blossoms (Sakura).

In southern Japan, you can experience the cherry blossoms as early as mid-March. In central Japan, especially in cities like Kyoto and Tokyo, the cherry trees bloom from late March to early April. In more northern regions, like Hokkaido, the cherry blossoms begin later, usually from late April.

Daytime temperatures range between 15°C and 20°C, which is ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. It can get cooler in the evenings, especially in the northern regions, but overall the climate is very pleasant in April.

10. Namibia

Or would you rather experience wild animals and spectacular landscapes in southern Africa? We’ve traveled through a tiny part of Namibia, but an intensive tour is still pending. In April, temperatures in Namibia are pleasantly mild. During the day, they range between 23°C and 27°C in most regions, while it can drop considerably at night (down to 9°C).

April falls in the transition period between the rainy and dry seasons, which means it veeeeery rarely rains. You can also enjoy 10 hours of sunshine a day and plenty of adventures. In April, the tourist peak season is not yet in full swing. You can enjoy the breathtaking landscapes and national parks with fewer crowds.

During this time, conditions are ideal for wildlife viewing, as many animals gather at the waterholes and the vegetation is less dense. We recommend a round trip with a 4×4 and roof tent. This type of trip is incredibly fun, especially in the countries of southern Africa!

11. Mauritius

We spent a whole 4 months in Mauritius because we simply loved the island so much. A trip to Mauritius is particularly recommended from April to June and from September to December. In April, you can enjoy summer temperatures between 27°C and 30°C during the day. High humidity shouldn’t bother you.

Water temperatures in April are also around 27°C, which doesn’t really offer much cooling. Short, heavy rain showers are possible, but precipitation generally decreases in April. In Mauritius you can relax in chic resorts, go on a road trip and/or try out cool water sports.
