Climate in Singapore
Singapore has a tropical-hot climate all year round, and daytime temperatures average around 28°C. There are no seasons in Singapore like you’re used to in Germany. The weather here doesn’t change much, except for the monsoon season at the end of the year. The more frequent rain showers cause temperatures to drop slightly. In addition, the air in Singapore is usually oppressive and humid. In Singapore, the weather is influenced by the northeast and southwest monsoons.
When winter arrives in Germany, the northeast monsoon sets in in Singapore, bringing with it the most rain. 19 to 23 rainy days per month are not uncommon. Humidity increases and is perceived as unpleasant by many (up to 100%). It usually doesn’t rain all day, but you should always expect showers and thunderstorms. Bolle and Marco, for example, were in Singapore in November and still had good weather to explore the city.
Around the end of June, the southwest monsoon arrives and brings a fair amount of rain. However, there isn’t as much rain as in other months. Therefore, many people travel to Singapore, especially in the summer months. Temperatures often climb above 30°C, and the water, at up to 28°C, doesn’t really offer much cooling.
Best Time to Travel to Singapore
First of all, it’s time to take a deep breath! If you’re not quite so flexible with your travel time, it’s not a big deal, because you can visit Singapore year-round. But let’s take a look together to see which months are best for your trip to Singapore. The best time to travel to Singapore is between March and September, when the rain is the least. However, don’t take the rain too seriously, as it rains occasionally throughout the year. Expect an average of 14 to 18 rainy days per month during these months.
Temperatures in Singapore are very consistent, usually between 28°C and 30°C. The water temperatures around Singapore are also around 27°C to 28°C year-round, making them perfect for a beach holiday. Remember, however, that you’re in Southeast Asia, and Singapore is also very humid (75% – 85%). When it’s not foggy, the sun often makes an appearance. On average, you can expect up to 6 hours of sunshine per day. As you’ve just read, between November and February it’s monsoon season in Singapore. This means you should expect an average of 18 rainy days per month. It often rains at night and in the early morning during this time, but during the monsoon season, you can also expect heavy, short showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Despite the rain, you shouldn’t forget your sunscreen, because when the sun breaks through the clouds, you’ll quickly find yourself sizzling. Temperatures at the turn of the year are a bit below the average temperature of 28°C, which also means that the humidity drops a bit, making planned excursions a little easier. The water temperature is a warm 27°C, so you don’t have to miss out on a beach holiday.
March to October
Since you can expect rain year-round in Singapore, the months of March to October are naturally not entirely dry. However, with an average of 14 rainy days per month, you’ll still manage to stay dry every now and then. However, this causes temperatures to rise and humidity to increase (up to 100%), which can be quite oppressive and exhausting for us Europeans. So, if you’re looking for an Asian metropolis with a summer vibe and enjoy working up a sweat in high temperatures, Singapore is definitely a perfect destination for you. The water temperature also remains constant at 27°C.
Conclusion on the best time to visit Singapore
As you can see, Singapore offers relatively stable temperatures and values year-round. The humidity is always quite high, and rain falls throughout the year. If you still have the choice, I recommend traveling to Singapore between March and October. There’s slightly less rain and the humidity decreases somewhat. However, as you’ve seen, the months often differ only by a few more or less days of rain. So, of course, you can also vacation in Singapore during the German winter, because you can always get wet here.
It’s a bit cheaper during the monsoon season between November and February. Hotel prices drop a bit, and you might even be able to snag a super-cheap flight. However, avoid traveling during Christmas, Chinese New Year, the Great Singapore Sale, and Easter, as you can expect really high prices and lots of visitors then.
