Avianca and TAP Launch Miami Airport Lounge

Avianca and TAP Launch Miami Airport Lounge

Avianca & TAP Air Portugal Unveil New Spot at Miami International

Brace yourselves, travelers! Miami International Airport (MIA) has some fresh news that might just make your layovers a tad more bearable. Avianca and TAP Air Portugal have teamed up to open a snazzy new lounge at MIA. For those keeping tabs, Avianca used to run its own lounge here, but, much like many beloved things, it shut its doors as the pandemic steamrolled through, leaving it closed for a pretty long stretch.

Fast forward to the present, and we’ve got some good news! The decision-makers decided to breathe life back into this space with a little help from their Star Alliance buddy, TAP Air Portugal. Construction kicked off in October 2024, and now, as we step into March 2025, the lounge is ready and raring to go.

The New Hangout

Occupying a robust 6,559 square feet, this lounge is ready to welcome up to 158 weary travelers. It might not scream luxury, but it does the job with loads of seating, a buffet, self-serve drink stations, and even showers to freshen up in. Throw in a relaxation area, workspaces, and a play area for the kids, and you’ve got yourself a solid airport respite.

Curious about where to find it? It’s snuggled nicely in the South Terminal, hanging out around Concourse H & J. Specifically, you’ll spot it by gate J4, conveniently sharing the neighborhood with the LATAM Lounge Miami.

Access: The Ins and Outs

  • Standard Star Alliance policies apply here, meaning business class passengers can waltz right in.
  • Star Alliance Gold members are also welcomed with open arms on eligible itineraries.
  • And, if you’ve got a Priority Pass, you can swing by for a visit up to three hours long.
  • The best part? It’s open 24/7, waving the convenience flag high and proud.

Stay tuned! I’ll be sharing some lounge pictures as soon as I can get my hands on them. In the meanwhile, a shout-out goes to a tweet by the Miami Herald for the sneak peek.

Getting Lounges off the Crowded Hook

Let’s chat about the current state of lounges at Miami Airport’s Concourse H & J, shall we? Up until now, the selection wasn’t exactly jaw-dropping. We had three choices: the Delta Sky Club®, the LATAM Lounge, and the Turkish Airlines Lounge, if you care to join me in a bit of unscientific ranking.

While the new Avianca and TAP Air Portugal Lounge might not win any beauty contests, it’s a beacon of hope for relieving some pressure on the hopelessly packed Turkish Airlines Lounge. This lounge has been the default refuge for every Star Alliance passenger and many more. It’s about time someone else picked up the slack.

Afternoons and evenings? They’re chaotic. Imagine teeming hordes of people, bellowing on speakerphones, with an endless parade of unrepentant loud video-watchers. And while we’re at it, let’s acknowledge that the Delta Sky Club® would take home the “Best in Show” too – if the lounges were dogs at a competition.

Here’s a wild thought: wouldn’t it be amazing if this side of the airport upped the ante with a lounge experience that actually lives up to the name? Not holding my breath, but hey, here’s to dreaming. Miami Airport’s forthcoming Concourse K might surprise us yet, bringing a new lounge oasis into the mix alongside a six-gate expansion. A girl can dream, right?

A Few Takeaways

Getting back to it: Avianca and TAP Air Portugal have rolled out a brand spanking new lounge over at Miami Airport, precisely in Concourse J. For those on the passenger-shuffle since the pandemic days, it’s a joyful resurrection. That long-lost Avianca lounge has been reunited with travelers, now with TAP Air Portugal by its side.

Sure, it may not hit the glitzy glam that you might find elsewhere, but let’s be honest, in the grand scheme of things, more lounge spots are exactly what the lounge-doctor ordered.
