I (Bolle) grew up in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, have lived in this state for 22 years, and have explored many corners.
Especially because of the coronavirus crisis, we have explored the various regions even more intensively over the past two years and must emphasize once again how beautiful this state is. To make your vacation planning a little easier, we present you some of the most beautiful vacation spots on the Baltic Sea.

1. Kühlungsborn Seaside Resort
The Baltic Seaside Resort of Kühlungsborn is located between Rerik and Bad Doberan and, in our opinion, is definitely one of the most beautiful vacation destinations on the Baltic Sea. Kühlungsborn is divided into a western and an eastern part, with the lush green city forest directly in between. For this reason, Kühlungsborn is also called the “Green City by the Sea.”
Here you can stroll along the long beach promenade, marvel at the pretty seaside architecture with its meticulously detailed and magnificent villas, explore the diverse surroundings by bike, or simply relax on the beach. Kühlungsborn is a beautiful holiday destination on the Baltic Sea that leaves nothing to be desired.
2. Ostseebad Warnemünde & Rostock
Rostock has always been a part of my life; we have lived here for over 2.5 years now. Rostock is a cozy and beautiful city by the sea and offers plenty of variety. Due to its location on the Warnow River and the Baltic Sea, Rostock is even suitable for a summer vacation.
The Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde is particularly impressive due to its beautiful lighthouse, the Alter Strom with its restaurants, shops, and boats, the wide sandy beach, and the various activities you can do on the beach and in the water.
3. Graal Müritz & Rostock Heath
Just 30 minutes from Rostock lies the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea spa town of Graal Müritz and the beautiful hiking area of Rostock Heath. Here, you’ll find a 5-kilometer-long dream beach, a raised bog, and a lush coastal forest for hiking, biking, and walking.
Not only is the beach beautiful, but also the pier, the rhododendron park, the beautifully restored fishermen’s cottages, pretty churches, and the Müritz-Ribnitzer Großes Moor nature reserve. You can watch our hike through the Rostock Heath in our Instagram stories.
4. Baltic Sea Resort Ahrenshoop
Are you looking for a beautiful holiday destination on the Baltic Sea? Then you should take a closer look at the Baltic Sea Resort Ahrenshoop on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst Peninsula. For us, it is clearly one of the most beautiful resorts on the Baltic Sea. The so-called “artists’ village by the sea” particularly impressed us with its many charming thatched-roof houses and idyllic seaside location.
Here, you’ll get a full dose of “vacation feeling” when you arrive in Ahrenshoop. Although the Baltic Sea resort is quite small and manageable, there are still many very beautiful corners to discover.
5. Seaside Resort Prerow
From Ahrenshoop, it’s only a stone’s throw to Prerow. In addition to a truly stunning beach, which is up to 100 meters wide, there’s a lot more to see here. The Baltic Sea resort of Prerow is surrounded by the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park, which you definitely shouldn’t miss.
A holiday in Prerow is particularly suitable for families, as the coast here is rockless and sheltered from the wind. Perfect for all water lovers. The landmarks of this region are the 395-meter-long pier and the Darß lighthouse.
6. Hiddensee Island
We were recently on the Island and spent a wonderful weekend there in the best summer weather. A completely different wind blows here; the world seems to be in order here. Cars are not allowed; on Hiddensee Island, you walk or cycle from one village to the next.
The beaches are incredibly beautiful, almost as beautiful as those in the Caribbean. That’s not an exaggeration, we mean it! If you really want to recharge your batteries and need a break from everyday life, you should take the ferry to this small island. Absolutely recommended!
7. Binz & Sellin on the Island of Rügen
I can’t remember exactly how many times I’ve been to the island of Rügen, especially as a teenager. There’s a lot to experience on this island; the Baltic Sea resorts of Binz and Sellin, as well as the Jasmund National Park, are particularly beautiful. A diverse natural landscape, many beautiful seaside resort buildings, fantastic beaches, and plenty of Baltic Sea charm await you.
Some of the landmarks here include the Kurhaus in Binz, the Binz beach promenade, the Rasende Roland statue, the Granitz hunting lodge, and the two truly beautiful piers. More about Rügen here: Rügen Island Highlights & Travel Tips.
8. Baltic Sea resort of Zinnowitz
The Baltic Sea resort of Zinnowitz is located on the holiday island of Usedom, the second-largest island in Germany. A 42 km long coastline, many fantastic Baltic Sea resorts, and plenty of variety await you here. With around 1,200 hours of sunshine per year, the seaside resort of Zinnowitz is considered the sunniest region in Germany. Sounds promising, doesn’t it?
Not far from Zinnowitz are the imperial spas of Bansin, Ahlbeck, and Heringsdorf. In Zinnowitz, don’t miss the beautiful promenade, the Vineta pier with its diving gondola, the cool Lift Café, and the many small shops in the town center.
9. Kaiserbad Bansin
The Ostseebad Bansin is one of the three imperial spas on the island of Usedom. It was founded specifically for bathing in 1897 and is still very popular with vacationers today. This Baltic Sea resort awaits you with a long promenade that even takes you to Heringsdorf and Świnoujście (Poland).
Rent a bike and explore the area, enjoy the fresh Baltic Sea breeze on the beach, or take a detour to the pier. Bansin is small, cozy, and easy to navigate.
10. Seebad Ahlbeck & Heringsdorf
As a teenager, I felt like I visited these places hundreds of times, as our handball training camp took place here every year. Every morning, I’d wake up at 6 a.m. and head to the beach for my morning run. Those were the days…my goodness. For me, the Kaiserbäder Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf are the most beautiful on the island of Usedom.
The beaches are very beautiful and offer plenty of space for sunbathing, playing volleyball, and running around. Not to be forgotten are the many magnificent villas along the promenade, the two piers, and the wide range of accommodations, shops, restaurants, and cafés.
